I had BPH and then needed aquablation surgery. Tamsulolin helps me keep my bladder empty. I haven't had any negative side effects. Also, I discovered that I can take it every other day and I still get the benefit.
I took it for two days and stopped. I first had a headache then so loopy I was in bed for quite a bit of time. It did strengthen my urine stream but the immediate urge to urinate did not go away. Sexual side effects as well. I'd rather deal with the consequences of BPH than deal with the consequences of this drug. Trying to research some natural remedies i.e. what to eat and what to avoid to manage my enlarged Prostate.
After taking Tamsulosin now for about 9 months, I just stumbled across this very informative video. Initially sceptical, I became grateful that I was soon able to avoid the use of a catheta (following my TURP surgery for enlarged prostate) and nocturia symptoms. Now around 2 bathroom trips per night instead of the debilitating 7, 8, even 9 times! I now believe I have since been suffering ALL the side effects listed here, except the last two. The surgery put paid to any sex life, something I was not informed of beforehand. I prefer natural remedies and bought some rather expensive (we get free prescriptions in the UK) Saw Palmetto capsules which I plan to try instead (after speaking to my doctor) in the hope I will get less troubling side effects. I may be having a prostatectomy later this year (due to cancer being found), which might prevent such side effects in future. Thank you
I increased dosage from 0.4 to 0.8. Now I have a grayish cloud just below center vision in my right eye. When I first started taking it 4 years ago, I could tell it made me tired. Also, mild retro ejaculation. I'm about ready for Aquablation.
I had sleeplessness, and my nasal area felt like I had horseradish in it and a little running nose. And yes I forgot about getting up slow so I did get dizzy.
Hi DR. I have got a question to ask you I have been on climax for the last 2 yrs, and still wake up and go to toilet twice a night, the question is there any harm in discontinuing taking the medicine, kindly advise.thanks
My right eye alone is cloudy making it impossible for me to see. Can this be because of the tamsulosin? My opthamologist says I don't have cataract and nothing wrong with the retina(after taking an eye scan)
Same. Right eye grayish cloud. Increased dosage to 0.8 about 8 months ago. Then it started. Not sure if it was the increase or the length of time using.
I had retina surgery a couple years ago and it brought back the pain and eye pressure raised? I stopped it went away? The doctors say no relation? I think something to it.
I started taking 0.4mg 1hr before bedtime. Works great but it effects your eyes! Our well respected Eye Doctor here in Houston can tell if your taking Flowmax just by looking into your eyes. Flowmax actually caused a small hole in my Dad's left eye that had to be stitched up, the Doctor said, Flowmax was the culprit. I just stopped taking it because my vision is getting worse or blurry, dry eyes, I'm always rubbing my right eye, etc. Once I stopped my issues started disappearing. 🤟
How can he tell? What EXACTLY is it that he notices that indicates you are taking the medication? Did you take a different medication after you stopped?
Hello, I am a patient with membranous glomerular nephritis and benign prostate. What I want to ask you is that I am currently using 10 mg medication with the active ingredient alfuzosin. I have not seen much benefit from it. What if I used tamsulosin?
I have been prescribed Flomax by my primary care doctor. I looked up one of the possible side effects of this medication. Retrograde ejaculation is what terrifies me of this medicine. I’m still quite young and I’ve thought about having children in the near future. If I continue to take this medicine it could possibly increase my chances of infertility. At the same time I need to reduce my bladder retention which has been giving me kidney and urinary problems. This is totally stressing me out. I don’t want to ruin my chances of becoming a father, but at the same time I’m not trying to have kidney or urinary problems for the rest of my life. 🤦♂️
I took tamsulosin first and then silodosin for over 5 years. A disaster! Positive effects on urination, zero! On the other hand, with tamsulosin, headache, constant cold with hearing loss in the right ear, which even today, as confirmed by the ear doctor, is full of phlegm and hears very little! It destroyed my back and I will have to have surgery! The mind was always confused, the vision blurred! My strength was at its lowest and twice it caused me to have a heart attack, so much so that I risked dying! Then I switched to silodosin. Zero effects on urination! My mind even more confused, I unintentionally began to write backwards! Diarrhea with discharges every twenty, thirty minutes always! Blurred vision, inability to think, risk of losing my job due to constant mistakes I made and a disastrous effect on my mood, so much so that I fell into depression. I would like silodosin to be a person, to be able to fill it up and give it back at least part of the discomfort it generated in me! Forgive me, Doctor, but these are things you need to think carefully about before prescribing them!
So when you get up slowly it won’t cost you to be dizzy so that means whenever you’re walking around doing your daily activities you won’t be dizzy anymore?
All my dizzy symptom revolve around getting up quickly after sitting for quite a while. If I stand up slowly and just stand there for 10 or so seconds, I have no issue. Jumping up and running to the phone, for example, gets me every time. Once, I got up quickly and immediately walk up stairs at a fast clip. I very nearly blacked out. I went down to my knees. So, I try to be cognizant of that and just get up slowly.
This medication is causing serious confusion in my father. He is already suffering from dementia symptoms. But it never fails that within an hour of him taking "flomax" he starts getting loopy, confused. So much so that he can't even respond to me.
Took it for years. As I aged got worse The ugly truth about all of those medicines for enlarged prostate is that they can't stop the prostate from getting larger as u age. O finally had prostate surgery and it wasn't painful wish I had done it Yeats before.
Sorry about your arm but I am glad to see your comment. I have been advised to start Flomax. The dizziness side affect is a concern. Did the dizziness go away the longer you were on Flomax? And if so, how long did it take to not get dizzy? Thanks!
@dwightl5863 I started noticing dizziness not long after I started taking the drug. It seemed to be getting worse until I fell and broke my arm. When I stopped Flowmax, the dizziness went away. I have had no problems since.
@@Ronlawhouston Thank you for your prompt reply. I hear what one would call, conflicting opinions. To be fair some have said they have no side affects. Others say the side affects are rare. And others such as yours. Good to hear your symptoms stopped when you stop the drug. Have you used another drug or procedure that is working for you?
@dwightl5863 I don't regret trying it. I regret not stopping it as soon as the dizziness hit. I am going to get one of the minimally invasive surgery treatments. Dizziness is serious and falling is dangerous. The fewer drugs the better if you ask me.

The retrograde ejaculation effect surprised me. I had a gradual decrease in volume. Just figured it was due to age. Then I discovered it was a side effect of Tamsulosin.
