I remember an inning in the late 90’s giants vs angels, where tony Phillips was so coked up that nobody could control him and he went insane. It was “crazy”
As a rangers fan I knew we were cursed when that happened. But since then the jays haven’t won a playoff series and the rangers are world champs so I guess I was wrong
There's a certain feeling you get from knowing you hit a homer, that's when the flip happens. It's just like when you see a basketball player hold his arm up wrist bent when he just knows his shot will go in.
5:16 Bryce Harper’s first game back to his former team in DC after signing with the Phillies. He was being booed by the home crowd but the cheers from Phillies fans were louder. It was at Nationals Park but it’s really like a second home to Phillies fans.
Fun fact about the Jose Bautista bat flip. He signed a one day contract with the blue jays this past season to retire as a jay. As part of the ceremony, they revealed a mural of the bat flip on the side of a building in Toronto. Just to put it into perspective how influential that moment was for the team.
As a catcher for 8 years I was the subject of many tossed bats (often because they struck out or didn't know what to do with the bat). They can be dangerous.
The clip you guys are thinking about where Tatis got "In trouble" for a home run was a Grand Slam where San Diego was already up big and he swung on a 3-0 pitch. The Rangers manager cried about it as being against the unwritten rules and the next day someone got revenge hit by a pitch. That one nobody complained about. That was a big home run in an elimination playoff game.
I feel like they used to crack down way harder on bat flips, nfl endzone celebrations etc, and they've loosened up a lot realizing it's just more fun and not hurting anything, makes games more fun
That was a bubblegum container that got dumped on that player’s head. I’m sure someone has mentioned this before, but there was a time when baseball players were the primary source of profit for chewing tobacco companies. They used to use it heavily. Baseball players seem to need stuff to chew on. These days they have lots of sunflower seeds and bubblegum to keep them occupied. I’m sure some still chew tobacco too. Anyway, I think I liked Big Papi’s bat flip the most. It was pretty relaxed.
It’s crazy cause if you’ve ever played baseball, when you hit one on the sweet spot, you’ll know if it’s gone as soon as it touches the bat. Such a great feeling.
One of the best ever is David Ortiz (Red Sox) in a 3-0 count starts walking to 1st base before the pitch is even thrown. He knew there was no way they were throwing him a strike.
9:18 I was at that game, about 30 feet from where the ball ended up. I don't remember much after it left the park aside from running up and down the concourse hugging complete strangers having the time of my life. This was the Mets' first home playoff game after Chase Utley took out Ruben Tejada with a dirty slide (if you haven't seen that yet, you should react to it!), and the "F*** Chase Utley" chants before the game set the stage for an incredible night. Playoff baseball is magical.
When I was in college, I hit a ball that I thought was a homerun. I high fived the firstbase coach was jogging to second and it hit off the top off the wall and came back in... head coach was pissed 😂
3:34 "How often do you think it happens that they bat flip and then it doesn't go for a home run?" There's an unmistakeable feeling when you've really hammered the ball. There are times when you know without a doubt that it's going out. Most guys only flip the bat when they're absolutely certain. In the rare instances when it doesn't go out, it would be tremendously humliating even without boos and jeers.
Gotta watch some KBO, CPBL, and NPB bat flips. The culture and attitude about them is lightyears ahead of MLB. There are some savage ones there, and due to how much more common they are there, bat flips on foul balls aren't rare. 🤣 But hey, it's still entertaining!
They missed Nick Castellanos in game 4, his 2nd HR of the game. You should look at walk up songs or closer introductions. Or NFL or NBA players do along BP or charity softball games.
6:18 - 20th to be exact. 1987 World Series Game 4. This was a home team winners series so the Cardinals were down 2-1 but the Twins had struck first in the top of the 3rd. The Cards answered back to tie in the bottom half and then busted the game wide open in the fourth off the back of this home run from Tom Lawless for only his second Major League homer after going 2 for 25 during the regular season. This helped run Twins ace and eventual series MVP Frank Viola from the game. Following the home team trend, the Cards would go up 3-2 but then lose the last 2 in Minnesota to lose the series in 7. 7:34 - Same season but no. This was the 2020 Playoffs and that was during the regular season against the Rangers. 8:36 - No, that was Cleveland slugger Jose Ramirez. This is legendary Cleveland and Boston slugger Manny Ramirez (no relation).
Hitting for the cycle is about as rare as a four home run game. Hitting for the cycle is getting a single, double, triple, and home run in the same game.
Jose Bautista. With what went on in that game? With what was on the line in that playoff game? That bat flip? Nothing compares.......nothing! The whole stadium AND ground was shaking. It was seismic.
Its becoming more common in the MLB now since the unwritten rule side of it is sort of dying, which is great because they are fun. But if you wanna see some crazy ones check out the KBO
Major leagues has ball boys to pick up the bats, bring the umpire baseballs & the also have ball girls & boys catching foul balls down both base lines.
2:17 - Delgado went 4-for-5, for the record. His 5th AB in the 9th, he hit the ball to the warning track. No one has ever hit 5 in a game. Worth noting, as well, that the first home run of the game was his 300th career homer. Carlos had a flair back in his day. Still a travesty he's not the the Hall, IMO. 3:33 - More often than you'd think. I believe both Puig and Carlos Gomez have both done it and gotten a *lot* of flack for it. 6:15 - I'm disappointed. I love Joey Bat's flip, but Lawless' flip is just so much better. Guy hit .080 in the regular season, hit 3 home runs in his MLB career, including that one, and had 1 hit in that series in 10 ABs. Yet he pimps it like he's Barry Bonds. The swagger of that guy who had _no_ right to have it is just hilarious. It should be #1 on any list. The only excuse for it not being there is not knowing about it.
Ok UK fellas, it's me again, America, I gotta ask, what is a "steward" in British education? Is this similar to a "Prefect" a la Percy Weasley in Harry Potter? Yes I could just google it but I'd rather hear the explanation from a credible source. Are there any UK celebrities that were once stewards before they became famous? Like Lee Mack or Rio Ferdinand?
Hey Nick I remember when you called me dumb for picking Green Bay ( I know you didn't call me dumb but it felt like it) " your thinking with your heart not your head." " do you really think Green Bay can beat Dallas" HELL YEAH I DO!!!! GO PACK GO TO THE SUPERBOWL!!!!!
@taegenbrown2894 nope, that’s not how it works. I want Liverpool to lose every week, but I’m smart enough to know that they are better than a lot of teams in the league and will win most weeks. Just be humble and happy that your team won
I kinda dislike it all in general! Everyone wants to be Jordan, like they could actually be Jordan! Barry Sanders "IS" the beat RB to ever play in the NFL, properly! that seventh inning with the Jays and the Rangers is still the most crazy inning I have ever seen as a Baseball fan.
I remember an inning in the late 90’s giants vs angels, where tony Phillips was so coked up that nobody could control him and he went insane. It was “crazy”

@@philmccracken179😭😭😭
The announcer for the Pirates clip said"we are going to have a Marte (prononced Martay) Partay."
Bat flips started being more accepted after Jose Bautista’s legendary one vs Texas. That reaction by y’all is a top 3 video

As a ball player through College, when you hit it out *enough to flip* you know it’s an absolute tater.
Fun fact about the Jose Bautista bat flip. He signed a one day contract with the blue jays this past season to retire as a jay. As part of the ceremony, they revealed a mural of the bat flip on the side of a building in Toronto. Just to put it into perspective how influential that moment was for the team.
3:47 the player I remember with the most bat flips that weren’t actually home runs is Josh Donaldson 😂 he had a few in the past few season with NYY
Haven’t seen Buxton yet. If his bat flip isn’t in here I will be sad.
As a catcher for 8 years I was the subject of many tossed bats (often because they struck out or didn't know what to do with the bat). They can be dangerous.

As much as I like the bat flip, I think the bat slams are my favorites lol.
8:36 No. That's Jose Ramirez.
4:04 Tim Anderson, in case you missed it.
Anderson threw a no-hitting against Rameriz.

I bat flipped on what I thought would be my first every HR, I was 17.. it hit top fence and I doubled in 3 runs.. it would've been a walk off
The perfect stroke is a thing of beauty! I love and enjoy playing golf! Robin Williams take is classic!
the tatis bat flip at 7:45 was the cover of mlb the show

Rickey Henderson had the best.
When I was in college, I hit a ball that I thought was a homerun. I high fived the firstbase coach was jogging to second and it hit off the top off the wall and came back in... head coach was pissed 😂
Good to see my cubs and that was one massive bat flip.

Missed the Astros’ Yordan Alvarez’s anger-slam flip when he hit the walk-off, 3-run blast in game 1 of the playoff series v. Seattle in 2022.

The Korean guys will do it on a foul ball
At 8:39, Manny Ramirez is not the guy that punched Anderson. That was Jose Ramirez. Manny Ramirez retired in April of 2011.
Just Manny being Manny. 😁
They missed Nick Castellanos in game 4, his 2nd HR of the game.

You like the Rhys Hoskins one?

You would try that against Bob Gibson,Don drysdale, and other old school pitchers you would get a fast ball at your head next time up
I think there’s a video of just Josh Donaldson bat flipping but ball ended up being caught 😂
Derek Dietrich has some where they’re more like bat drops as well but I think they look just as cool as flips
2:24 Toad Frazier!
6:15 1987 World Series Filp!
8:21 Manny Ramirez!!
10:00 Ironic!
Hitting for the cycle is about as rare as a four home run game. Hitting for the cycle is getting a single, double, triple, and home run in the same game.
I’ve never seen a bat flip without a home run.
Korean and Japanese players bat flip despite not hitting homers.
I’m upset that no one frisbee’d their bat into the stands during Covid
Best game i have ever been too.
Jose Bautista. With what went on in that game? With what was on the line in that playoff game? That bat flip? Nothing compares.......nothing! The whole stadium AND ground was shaking. It was seismic.
When you hear that sound...

They’re not throwing bats at the opposition lol. The dug outs can change from stadium to stadium so it just depends what side they’re on that day
We know that 😂 it was a joke.
Boys, i only have 3 be thing to say! Sunday!
Nobody bat flips like the Koreans. My personal favorite bat flipper is Ryan Klesko.
Major leagues has ball boys to pick up the bats, bring the umpire baseballs & the also have ball girls & boys catching foul balls down both base lines.
Ok guys, let's go down the rabbit hole again! Do a reaction on both Ozzie Smith and Cal Ripken! Seriously for the "Gen X" croud
The Latin players are the best at it by far 😅
go watch Braves 2021 World Series run & 2023 regular season highlights if you want to watch some non-stop homers

Different Ramirez, but both played for the Indians, different eras though...

Bat flips are annoying
