These do give me late 90's vibes. From about 1998 to 2000 there was so much cool-toned silvery futuristic looks in fashion and makeup, as the year 2000 approached, everyone had technology, space and sc-ifi aesthetics on their minds. Like we were waiting for our jetpacks and hovercars that never came.
So to me, these are screaming vintage glass Christmas ornament vibes. Especially matte! Like a Christmas fairy came and waved her wand and put some ornaments up during the night. I think the pearl shimmer really is giving me that mental image. It’s cool, as if touched by snow/ice. I def think it’s wintery, and I also think it’s out of the box holiday
I really don't care if the colors fit the season or not, they are beautiful and original ! It's good that brands don't do all the time what we expect them to do, otherwise it would be boring ! Creativity all the way ! 🥳
the holidays arent the only thing that happen during the winter, i fill like this collection fills in all the gaps that holiday-centric collections have when it comes to representing the season as a whole. and i also noticed fluidity has a subtle holo sparkle! it’s now my new favorite silver 🤍✨
Totally agree with you! I always feel a little sad after the holidays because I feel like there's so much focus on it. I like having a collection that represents winter in general!
I'm circling back around to this collection a couple years later and realizing that I love metallics for SUMMER. Like bronzer in the sun...The typical neons aren't me. I think the shimmer in these just glows in bright sunlight. Even Fluidity looks great for summer in one coat: like a wash of sparkle. Matte, they are perfect for winter. I'm excited to wear these more often year-round.
One thing you didn't mention in the video is that this is the last of the "inspired by art" collections of the year - and futurism was an art movement in the past imagining what the future would be! So that "in the past looking at what we thought would happen" totally *is* what this represents. Personally I'd already decided to renew my expired color pass after seeing these but I'm going to try to catch a coupon before I buy it. 😉 I love it!
I don't wear a ton of gold or red polish, I prefer cooler/grayer shades so this is right up my alley. It is nice to have something that isn't standard.
As an art history buff and lover of the ice tones for winter, i think these colors are perfect. The pinkie brown and the green are my two favorites. Love them matte!
I was also getting 90s vibes from these shades. The 90s were all about frosted everything, lol! Thanks for the swatches, they are always super helpful 🙂
4:00 I can see why Dynamism is your favorite, it's because it goes *perfectly* with your undertone and skintone. Something most people are unaware of or aren't good at selecting what works for them, especially with nail polish colors.
I’m loving that Orly has released non-traditional collections this year. I’m a color pass subscriber for two years now and have loved that they haven’t fallen in line with what the other brands released this past year. Excited to see what else they release for 2023!!!
I have color pass and was not excited when I opened my box... then I tried them on! It had like a hammered metal effect. I like orly color pass bc it sends me polishes I might not typically reach for and stretches my polish interest outside of just my preferred colors and finishes. Did that even make sense? Haha 😄 well, 2 thumbs up from me on this set and thanks for your video!
Orly nailed their collections this year. I loved the art themes and their interpretations of the styles they picked for each season. I did get the same 90s vibe from this collection and I'm so excited to use them for winter nail art when I'm done working through my fall backlog lol
OMG Kelli! You read my mind! This collection totally takes me back to the 90s. I remember having 1 or 2 polishes that looked very similar, but the quality wasn't as good at that time.
This feels like a very good color story for a January/transition collection. I do love these matte! That said, I can’t really wear normal polishes, so I really wish Orly would do more of these out of the box polishes in the breathable line.
Hi Kelli! I have the Color Pass and I really loved this collection and that Orly kept the whole art theme throughout the year. “Futurism” artwork looks very cold and hard and these fit that perfectly and are ideal for a winter collection! I just ordered the Breathable line In the Spirit collection on your recommendation. Can’t wait to get those!
Kelli, you are such a salesperson! You are the main reason why I got back into polishes and why I'm so broke lol. You make any shade sound like a must have! I am going to sign up for Color Pass next week (hopefully) and at first I was indifferent about this collection, but wouldn't have mind if I was sent this as the first box or something else entirely different. However, after this video, I am hoping that it it the one that is sent. I generally like to rewatch your videos multiple times just to see the different lighting on the shade. If you ever get bored of nails, you should start swatching eyeshadow!
I’m glad Orly stepped out of the box. All the reviews I’ve heard have been lackluster at first glance, with surprise at actually enjoying them on the nail. I’m looking forward to trying them. They also look like they may be transforming over black? TFS and great video as always Kelli😊
I think it would be awesome if we could get a "outside in natural daylight" lineup pic to compare to the usual on-camera lineup in every video, but I definitely understand that would require a lot more time and work put in to filming and production. Either way, this is absolutely still the best polish swatch and review channel on UA-cam!
I never thought to use a matte top coat with metallic shimmers before so I decided to try it after watching your video and omg! The effect is phenomenal! Thank you for the tip! My polishes have a whole new look about them that I didn't know about!!
I was absolutely stoked when I unpacked this colorpass box! I love a retro-scifi future vision, and I think this collection is such a fun and different version of a winter collection. Thank you so much for the idea to mattify them, I loved how your matte swatches look! I've only worn Industrial Playground so far.
I agree that you need to see these on the nail. When I got these in the Color Pass order I was very disappointed. I held off trying them until Easter 2023. I did the blue and liked it. I then used the green and took it off the next day. I didn't like the finish. But I decided to do a Skittles mani with the rest, omitting the green and I was glad I did--I loved it them. I then rewatched your swatch review afterwards. I forgot you suggested matte so will do that before I change polishes. I'm glad I tried them all.
This is definitely 90's inspired, and I'm loving it. Though this feels more late 90's, early 2000s. My fav is Industrial Playground; though Fluidity and Ascension are close. Fluidity looks like it has these light teal-blue sparkles, glitters, or shimmer in it. Like how some electronics from the late 90's early 2000's had that teal-blue LED display; like those Bose silver CD/Radio speaker players. This collection reminds me of an old drugstore brand, "Pure Ice" that used to always have a bunch of colors with this type of frosty finish. My neighbor let me have one of theirs that was blue and silverish-purple frost from that brand. I feel like this collection is a good transitional collection for spring as well. This one and ILNPs new Winter Wonderland collection look like they would work great into early spring. Honestly glad to see more winter collections that don't just scream December only. Feels more like you can get away with wearing them for more than the holidays.
I was not excited when I saw the collection as a whole but seeing them swatched separately really changed how I looked at them. I did see them more icy & winterized but could also see a couple of them for Spring. Orly was awesome this year so I will chalk it up to them having me try things outside my comfort zone so I’m there for it. (Now if CG did this, I don’t think I’d be as open 😂)
Hi Kelli, I just popped over from Google to write a comment on this video. First off, you have a new follower, I like how clear and calming you are. Anyway, this may sound off topic, but bear with me, I'm a retired house painter so I'm well versed in color and coverage. When using a fairly shear color like the beautiful green shade Urban landscape use a grey as a primer. It really works great. When I painted a dark color like red for an accent wall, it takes several coats to cover white, so I started having my primer tinted grey. It really cuts down on the coats of paint required for coverage. I've also had long natural nails for 40 years, so I love the grey under shears. I'm looking forward to watching your videos and glad I found you on Google. Hope I didn't sound like a know-it-all. Haha, I'm really not! Enjoy your weekend darling. 🌿
Hey Georgia! I love this advice, I was actually struggling to figure out what color would work best for showcasing it (as I'm sure you could tell haha!) And I think you're absolutely right about the gray. I'm so glad to have you here and I'm glad you're enjoying my content so far 🙂
Yesssssss! When I saw these polishes, I totally thought they were more of a throwback collection. I like how you put it, though: "A 90s vision of the future". Dynamism looks just like a polish my mom had around 1989 and Fluidity is a dead ringer for one I purchased around 1999. I still have both in my archive of favorites. I might pick these up just for the sheer similarity to past loves. Thank you for the video! 😊
OMG! So excited about this collection. I love polish and have been really bored lately with what's out there. The 90's was an awesome decade and maybe that's why I love these. I plan on ordering the Industrial Playground and the Dynamism. Awesome collection as a whole!
Girl I know this is so random on this video but I've been binging your content recently since I started getting back into nail polish. Ur 101 video mentioned quick dry top coat and I bought some today and my nails already are completely changed! Can't wait to start getting some indie polishes. I love your videos 😊
Kelli: I just did a mani with Urban Landscape and let me tell you... no image is doing this justice. It looks like gray/green satin or taffeta. I did a gold glitter fade with a couple of nails and oh man, is it gorgeous. I was just slapping it on to get something on my nails and now regret not making my application a little nicer since it is SO worthy! Just thought I'd let you know! Thank you again for reviewing these! 🥰💖
I got this collection with the Color pass this month and at first I was not sure I was going to like it, however seeing your video has made me like the collection and I can’t wait to try it.
I think you're really gonna love it on the nails! They look less exciting in the bottle I think haha but once you see the gorgeous little flecks and details, I bet you'll wanna wear them all the time!!!
Bought the set from Orly, and they recommended another set at checkout...a three polish holiday set, with gold, red and a topper...holiday trio. So, I'm covered until spring! Loving the winter collection!
I just got this collection as part of their color pass. I haven’t tried them just yet but I’m excited to try them. I actually like the color story. It feels like everything is frosted. I definitely feel the 90’s vibe you are referring too. We just need a tamagotchi to go with it, maybe some body glitter.
I love wearing matte on metallic poish! So glad that you decided tobshow this collection and after with matting. I do think of vintage holiday, all those victorian-style ornaments come to mind, as well as the shimmer of icy snow in the sun. I love Dynamism!
The Futurism theme is actually a reference to the Futurism art movement from the early 1900s. It was basically a bunch of Italian painters who were super excited about machines and cars and stuff that went fast. Considering the previous collections from this year have all been related to modern art movements, (i.e. Impressionism, Pop Art, Surrealism) I'm pretty certain that's the inspiration. Just wanted to share! Love your review!
While watching this the lyrics, "ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOM! Make my heart go.. BOOM BOOM! My supernova girl!" popped into my head. These have a total 90s 'This is the future.' vibe.
Ahh! There was a price drop on this collection today and I went to your video to watch your review but it sold out before I got to it. Another great review, as always.
I loove this collection! they look so good even matte! its actually quite unique n fun! I love creativity n its nice that instead of usual standard colours for the season Orly is open to different colours n finishes! And, I love you for brightening my day always! thank you so much Kelli!💜
Whoa! After watching this, I'm very happy that I ordered these because I really love how they look matte. Thank you so much for this swatch video Kelli.
I don’t know if anyone already pointed this out, but Futurism is an art movement (just like Pop Art, Impressionism, and Surrealism). As an artist. I was SO impressed that Orly did a whole art history theme there for a while. Even the names hint back to their respective movements, for example, Dynamism refers to “Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash,” by Giacomo Balla. 🥰
I was shook when I got my color pass! Especially that brown to pink, I have no polishes like any of these and its bc there's nothing like them.. they're extremely unique! Plus like what a gorgeous base for nailart for the winter
I love these! They remind me of some (face) highlighters I own, feel very wintery (I love cool toned pastel colours in the winter) and make me think of old fashioned Christmas decorations. I need these in my life!
Kelli, I think tons of us would love to attend a meet and greet! We are here and real and would love to meet you! But hey, only do it if it’s something you think you would enjoy. And know that just being yourself (even if you’re shaking like a little dog! Lol) would be more than enough ❤
Maybe I can have a double use at a meet and greet - people can put their settled polishes in my hands and with all my nervous shaking, I'll shake them back up LOL 🤣
I totally agree, this doesn't give me holiday vibes but it is ALL icy/frosty depth of winter (January/February) vibes to me. And Fluidity definitely had tiny flecks or glitters of other colours flashing when you were painting it on the nail and probably holo. I think that's my favourite of the batch.
I adore these! How many regular reds and greens and silvers do we actually need? I love it when mainstream companies step out of the box like this! I used to have the Orly Color Pass, but I had to stop it. I am definitely going to be picking up this collection. It is so beautiful! It looks stunning on the nails. Thank you so much for swatching and reviewing these! p.s. I am also going to be mattifying them! hehe
I'm super happy to hear your thoughts on this collection! I think it's fun, and I'm happy to not have traditional colors. XD I also really like how the theme fits in with the whole year's releases in their main line, and I think the colors fit winter and futurism as in the art movement really well. Also a probably Orly specific question lol - how do you decide when to review their seasonal lines when they send out Color Pass collections super early?
Lady, your review of this collection, of all that I've seen, NAILED IT! 🤦🤣 Although you know I love metallics, esp. foils, these are more subtle pearly shimmers. I do love the hues, think more of them as spring shades, but these will be PERFECT layered under other foils, holos, and toppers. 💜
Omg! I would love to meet you!! Lol As for the colors- who cares what the collection is called! I love that it gives a new twist to the season!! Love the colors.
I was really disappointed when I saw a spoiler of this collection, but you’re totally right that on the nail they’re fantastic. I’ve gotten SO many compliments on Dynamism, especially mattified.
I’m wearing the purple Forward Momentum . I bought it finally because I had seen someone wearing this at sunset golden hour lighting. It looked so pretty that even this far out from it release I still wanted it. I love the grey , purple touch of golden.
Once I saw the sneak peek/spoiler photos, I had a few thoughts. 😄 In terms of their art theme, I think they did a great job of keeping in line with that. I also got 90’s vibes with these colors. I like traditional holiday colors, but I also love it when brands do something (kind of) out of left field like this, so that made it even more exciting. I will definitely be ordering it!
The streaky metallics aren't really my jam because I have a perfectionist problem but when you said they made you think of what we thought the future would look like in the 90s I completely understood what you meant and then that made me think of Zenon?! LOL
Now these are my kind of colors! I don’t wear red or gold polish, I stick to blue and green and muted tones. I’m in a bit of a cream phase run so the metallic finish isn’t my favorite, but it’s perfect for holidays and snowy winter so I like that they went with it.
Ooo, i can see what you mean about the 90's future chrome concept! That definitely led way into a lot of the chrome and transparent plastic that proliferated the early 2000's Y2K aesthetic. Like, I could totally see these polishes on a shelf in an Icing in 2003. Idk if anyone else gets that vibe, or if Im just being real nostalgic lol
These remind me of frosted gingerbread. That's the first thing I thought of when you were swatching the pink one and then you mentioned it. lol Very pretty.
You are so right! Silver was a popular color
Where is my hover car!
Definitely!
Millennium fashion.
Yes this is exactly it!
Nice interpretation 😍
I agree. The colors remind me of my grandma’s house on Christmas.
Ooh soo true!!!
@@QuietlyCurious Thank you!
@@tracyhoverson8294 I’m glad you see that vintage look too!
I really don't care if the colors fit the season or not, they are beautiful and original ! It's good that brands don't do all the time what we expect them to do, otherwise it would be boring ! Creativity all the way ! 🥳
Totally agree, I love the creativity!!
I love these too they really remind me of an opi collection that I had to track down for neo pearl green it is beautiful!!
Agreed 🎉💯🎉
100%, just because it’s the holiday season doesn’t mean we HAVE to get holiday colors!
@@kaitlinbeste , the green is my favorite out of this collection. I think it's the most unique.
the holidays arent the only thing that happen during the winter, i fill like this collection fills in all the gaps that holiday-centric collections have when it comes to representing the season as a whole. and i also noticed fluidity has a subtle holo sparkle! it’s now my new favorite silver 🤍✨

I don't wear a ton of gold or red polish, I prefer cooler/grayer shades so this is right up my alley. It is nice to have something that isn't standard.
I agree, they made a nice soft collection for people who want a less loud vibe haha!
As an art history buff and lover of the ice tones for winter, i think these colors are perfect. The pinkie brown and the green are my two favorites. Love them matte!
I think this is such a cool way to do a holiday collection. Orly is so consistently good with their color stories, I think this collection is amazing.
Agreed. They're the best brand for putting together color stories imo!
I was also getting 90s vibes from these shades. The 90s were all about frosted everything, lol! Thanks for the swatches, they are always super helpful 🙂
Yes! These metallic nail colors give such 90's/00's vibes. Zenon was my jam 🛸
4:00 I can see why Dynamism is your favorite, it's because it goes *perfectly* with your undertone and skintone. Something most people are unaware of or aren't good at selecting what works for them, especially with nail polish colors.

OMG Kelli! You read my mind! This collection totally takes me back to the 90s. I remember having 1 or 2 polishes that looked very similar, but the quality wasn't as good at that time.
I'm glad everyone is putting all these greens out.
I love the frosty look with each color.
I really love this collection for winter! I'm slowly growing to like pearly finishes, and all of these are really pretty!
These look like they could be great for early spring when it’s cold outside. I appreciate the muted tones in these!
You have a way of making me like or at the very least appreciate collections that I don’t like at all when I watch other reviews. 😘
This feels like a very good color story for a January/transition collection. I do love these matte!
That said, I can’t really wear normal polishes, so I really wish Orly would do more of these out of the box polishes in the breathable line.
Hi Kelli! I just ordered the Breathable line In the Spirit collection on your recommendation. Can’t wait to get those!
I think between those two sets, you're covered for all the winter and holiday colors haha! They did a great job covering both.
I bought the whole In the Spirit as well - gorgeous! Orly did awesome this year, in my opinion
Oh yeah, I totally dig the vintage Christmas ornament vibe! Love it!

Oh yay I'm so happy you tried it! It's such a gorgeous velvety effect. Try it with red, you'll fall in love!!

I really appreciate an honest review.
Obsessed with these! I was really hoping you’d swatch them over white and black too, but maybe next time!

Bought the set from Orly, and they recommended another set at checkout...a three polish holiday set, with gold, red and a topper...holiday trio. So, I'm covered until spring! Loving the winter collection!
Seriously they're covering all the bases haha! I love it!
I love when brands don't do the same typical colours and finishes for holidays and seasons over and over again. This is refreshing.
I just got this collection as part of their color pass. I haven’t tried them just yet but I’m excited to try them. I actually like the color story. It feels like everything is frosted. I definitely feel the 90’s vibe you are referring too. We just need a tamagotchi to go with it, maybe some body glitter.
Love these “icy” swatches Kelli 🥶🥰 I think Dynamism is my fave!
Please try over black. The colors POP and I fell it love with it sooooo much more!
I love wearing matte on metallic poish! So glad that you decided tobshow this collection and after with matting.
I do think of vintage holiday, all those victorian-style ornaments come to mind, as well as the shimmer of icy snow in the sun. I love Dynamism!
Ooh yes I love that vintage ornament style!!
Yes you are correct Susan! :)
There's definitely a little bit of holo in the shade Fluidity, it looks so nice!
It's so gorgeous with that sparkle, really adds to the color!
I'm just crazy over them mattified!!
They are perfect New Year’s Eve colors!!
I was shook when I got my color pass! Especially that brown to pink, I have no polishes like any of these and its bc there's nothing like them.. they're extremely unique! Plus like what a gorgeous base for nailart for the winter
Right?! I'm definitely going to wear Dynamism next (matte of course!)
I tested these over black and yes! Plus they stamp well!
Love this set. Totally 90's. I am a 90's kid
I love pearl streaky colors these were right up my streak!
I love these! They remind me of some (face) highlighters I own, feel very wintery (I love cool toned pastel colours in the winter) and make me think of old fashioned Christmas decorations. I need these in my life!
Having listened to your podcast (which I'm loving btw) I had to chuckle that you wore a C-3PO eyeshadow palette despite your feelings about him 😄
LOL! I'm still convinced he's secretly evil 🤣 but the palette is gorgeous hahaha
@@KelliMarissa LOL 😂
When I first opened the color pass box I was initially disappointed but the more I looked at them the more I liked them!
I think that's gonna be the general consensus once people try them, because they're so funky and fun!
It's such a small detail that makes it so unique and pretty!!
I like you thought to show them with Matte. I was also hoping to see the full collection with Matte. Great video, thanks!!!
Yay glad you enjoyed it Julie!!
I usually wait until they're released to the public because I know people don't like spoilers for the Color Pass haha!
This is a really cool idea for a winter collection! When I think winter, I think soft gray, so it's very fitting. Ascension especially is beautiful 😍
Oh gosh thank you Linda!! 🥰❤️
I love the art history names
This collection goes beautifully with the new Natasha Denona midi Retro palette. Like they almost worked together on collections... Wow!
The first one totally reminds me of a nail polish Revlon put out in the 90s - I had the matching lipstick.
LOVED this collection ~ I think I'm going to buy Forward Momentum, and Dynamism ~ Really enjoy your swatch and reviews!🎉🥂🎉
Yesss great picks! Thank you so much!
I love these and I think they're very wintery
I think this is a beautiful winter collection and I'm all for shimmery/pearlescent colors but I'm an 80s baby with a love for the nineties.
Omg! I would love to meet you!! Lol
As for the colors- who cares what the collection is called!
7:50 What a beautiful collection! Thank you for swatching them. I'm usually not a fan of Orly even though I love their wide brush.
I love them! While I do love the traditional holiday colors, it's a nice change of pace.
Kelli you are awesome! Love love love my Jersey sister! 🥂🤌🖖
I never have a problem with brands going outside the box so this is pretty cool!
I love it! Also please ignore the spam bot lol
Do you have a video on how you file your nails? Your nails are so pretty 😍
Ooo I ordered this collection the other day! Looking forward to hearing what you think about it. 🎉
This is giving me vibes from the OPI 2019 or 2020 pearl collection
Ooo, i can see what you mean about the 90's future chrome concept! That definitely led way into a lot of the chrome and transparent plastic that proliferated the early 2000's Y2K aesthetic. Like, I could totally see these polishes on a shelf in an Icing in 2003. Idk if anyone else gets that vibe, or if Im just being real nostalgic lol
I got these with the Color Pass. I love love them matte as well!! I'm wearing them matte now!
These remind me of frosted gingerbread. That's the first thing I thought of when you were swatching the pink one and then you mentioned it. lol Very pretty.
count me as a yes! I love this! My fave collection from Orly this year! So original and wearable all year long!
It's so gorgeous!!
I like fluidity the most, I don't think the other colours would pop on my skin based on the swatches, but fluidity is weirdly cool
