Hello Jamie! I really enjoy watching your videos. Could you kindly share the OM Focus Bracketing settings you used for these stacks? I'm curious about your Differential and Charge Time settings. Thank you!
Thank you! I set my number of shots to 999 and press the shutter again once I'm happy, focus differential of 1 but sometimes 2 and charge time is 0 seconds.
@@JamieSpensley any recommendations for a macro good btw ? I've come across the ak , pope and cynustech but was hoping for something available a little quicker than 3 weeks minimum lol. No worries if not , cheers for the content it genuinely makes me want to get out and take more photos !
Wow! Awesome photos! I would never have thought that you could do this excellent macro free-hand! One question: first the flash makes perhaps 10 flashes, then a pause, then 10 again and then maybe even a third group, is that 20 or 30 images together? Are the pauses cause flash needs to reload?
Very cool! Thank you for sharing your methods :) Curious why you use the colour backgrounds? Is it for aesthetics or does it have a practical aspect to it? - Cheers, Duarte
Thanks! When using a flash, the background is usually quite dark unless the background is close to the subject. I use coloured backgrounds because I'm not a fan of the black background aesthetic and I like to make my subject pop
Really impressive that you can get so many bugs to stay still while firing off large stacks. Of course, I'm sure plenty of them move on you. Are you able to successfully merge stacks if there is small movement between frames? Last time I tried a few stacks that had some subtle movement, both Photoshop and Helicon failed. It's a shame the focus stacking tools can't stretch and stitch like Panorama software. Which software have you had the most success with?
There is little difference between software really. I use Zerene Stacker and some stacks come out clean and some don't. I do a lot of retouching inside of zerene stacker but if a subject moved a lot I'll have to manually mask things like legs and antennae in Photoshop.
Great content! You have inspired me to get back out in the meadows and muck to find subjects. I'll need a lot a practice to even come close the the shots that you get. In the meantime, I've found a used Olympus OM-D em-1 ii and a 60mm macro to use instead of my R5 (that cannot focus stack with AF due to the electronic shutter when focus bracketing).Keep the videos coming!
Thank you! I'm glad to have inspired you. My one tip would be to go out early in the morning as subjects are very still and it makes the whole process a lot easier
Absolutely excellent shots , i got jy camera and lens coming in the next two days .i would love it if you did a video explaining what camera settings you use to capture those amazing shots.
@@JamieSpensley that would be great my m1 mark ll and 60mm macro arrived today .what flash would you recommend apart from the v350o as I'm finding it difficult to source one thanks.
Nice pictures! But I don't like using an artificial background. I prefer trying to find an angle that gives me the best natural background. To me that's part of the fun, and the result is the most natural possible
Very nice video and great pictures. I have a question about photography technology. Do you use continuous shooting and slowly move the focus forward? Or do you use the camera's focus shifting function? Personally, I cannot see any images on the Ninkon Z8 while the focus is shifting. It would be very nice if you could give me some brief information here.
I use Olympus' automatic focus bracketing most of the time. There are very few cases where I will manually focus bracket. And then I stack those frames in Zerene Stacker on my computer
Absolutely awesome, the only downside is that i want these to be a minimum of 1 hour long ;) look forward to the next one. strangely enough i just bought these exact cloths in a pack great value.
Hello there, Nice work indeed. Very sharp and colourful shots. I really enjoy them. Your Godox flash works with the electronic shutter? can you focus stacking with the flash? Best all from Madrid!
Thanks! When I use the backing mode, it uses electronic shutter and works. But if I manually select electronic shutter, my flash won't fire. I have no idea why this is
Hi Jamie First of all I would like to say thanks alot for the great Video . I would like to ask you about the Flashes, would would u recommend for the good Flashes about 100 $? I have Fujifilm camera . Many thanks , Somlid
Hi Jamie,I immensely enjoy watching your videos, keep up with the great work mate. I have a question for you please. Recently I’ve purchased canon 90d ,focus bracketing shots with led light works fine but somehow with canon speedlight 600ex-rt I can’t get it firing continuously.I can’t figure out why..I would appreciate if you could advise plz.thanks
Hi Jamie, thanks for your great video's and do have a question for you, when shooting photo-stacks with flash, do you move slightly forwards when doing this?
@JamieSpensley Thanks for your reply Jamie to what I. Suspected you were doing because it was difficult to see any movement towards the subjects whilst your flash repeats were on, I find the only problem with bracket focusing with using a camera is that it leaves you limited with a jpeg lmage & not a Raw one when it comes to post-editing.
If I do several 50+ stacks one after the other then my flash can overheat. But generally, my flash doesn't have any problems until a few thousand images in
Hi Jamie, I have a question I hope you can help me with. Just upgraded to the OMD E1 Mark 11 and I can't get my flash to fire in bracketing mode. Had no issues on the M1.Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Hello Jamie, you’r shooting with olympus handheld with flash. Sometimes your flash is not going to flash and why are you taken so many pics for one bug? Do you only use the pics where the flash actually did fire or do you use them all?
I'm really impressed at how you can hand hold those shots. I would be shaking like a leaf. End results are National Geographic level!
Thank you so much! It is difficult to stay still sometimes, especially when the subject is in an awkward spot
Your photography is absolutely amazing.
Thank you 😁
Amazing, thanks for showing an coaching! Just one thing: Your co-pilot shakes too much, probably hecwas freezing. 😂 I recommend a gimbal.
Thanks! Yeah, he was a bit cold 😂
Absolutely stunning images. Class!!

Early mornings as it is cold and bugs will not be very active. But you can get images of bugs any time of day if you have the patience

Thanks! I'm not too knowledgeable on what flashes are out there, but I highly recommend the Godox v350 or any flash with a Lithium ion battery.
V350, V860iii etc are great flashes, available for X-mount too.

Thanks! I'm not entirely sure, but it may be something to do with the flash not being compatible with the focus bracketing mode if you are using that.
Another great video. I have a question. Do you always use auto focus when using the Raynox
I always use manual focus and often use automatic focus bracketing
Hi Jamie, thanks for your great video's and do have a question for you, when shooting photo-stacks with flash, do you move slightly forwards when doing this?

Thanks! I'm glad to have inspired you
Can you do focus stacking with the OM-1 and 90mm I’ve done every setting and it won’t focus stack
I'm not 100% percent sure but I've seen others with this sort of setup using bracketing on Instagram
Great job.
Thanks!
How do you know before you start how many shot to set your bracketing at.
I set it to 999 shots and press the shutter again to stop the bracketing when I've got enough shots
Why does the Flash misfire? Do you still put the pictures where the Flash didn‘t Flash into the Stack?
My flash fires all shots. It's the frame rate of my video camera not matching the speed of the flash, making it look as if the flash didn't fire
Hi Jamie, I have a question I hope you can help me with. Just upgraded to the OMD E1 Mark 11 and I can't get my flash to fire in bracketing mode. Had no issues on the M1.Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Try changing the drive mode on your camera. The flash doesn't fire in silent shutter mode, so try turning silent shutter off
@@JamieSpensley appreciate the reply Jamie, problem solved with software update
Hi, did you make this flash "hood" yourself? Or is it possible to buy one?
Directly message Cygnustech on Instagram to get one
99 image stack... NIGHTY NINE? :D

How are you focusing ?
I set my magnification on the lens and then move my camera closer to the subject until it's in focus
I’m post how do you deal with limbs that move?
I used to cut them off but it's cruel
Manually mask them in using Photoshop
