I just this movie and it is easily one of my top films of the year! If you put Giallo horror, Evil Dead 1981, The Fly 1986, and From Beyond 1986 into a blender, that's this movie! So bold, creative, great pacing and story telling. And yes, Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley ate this movie up!
MOVIES ARE BACK BABY! For me, it feels like I have been through it all, seen it all, and though I’ve *almost* become numb to this type of thing, I absolutely DEVOUR it -- HOWEVER, if you have even the slightest ailment of a weak stomach or a fragile disposition, you’re in for a rough ride. Believe the hype-this is not for the faint of heart. DEMI-MOTHERFUCKING-MOORE Y’ALL! ** …don’t even get me started on that shrimp scene… 🙈**
I watched Revenge fully thinking this was a ridiculous, unrealistic, dopey film and was pleasantly surprised when, very early on, the film lets you know very plainly that it has no intention of being realistic, but over the top bombastic and ruthlessly creative. I can't wait to watch The Substance.
I saw it some weeks ago in a small cinema in English (I‘m Swiss). Just heard about it being very good. I didn‘t know anything about the story and hadn‘t seen a trailer. Was the best horror film of this year for me and in general one of my most favorite films of this year. I can only aggree with you, we need more films like this. Cinema needs more new and risky ideas
@@ZachPopeReviews It might be a matter of taste, but I consider this movie to be polluted by needless and forced references to previous instalments and the way it's written makes it oftentimes look plain silly. As a popcorn flick to consume it works, though all things considered I would rather watch Covenant ;) The Substance still looks promising.

Demi is pronounced in this case as De-‘MEE. (It does NOT rhyme with semi.)
