  • Luke Meier of Thrive3 Basketball demonstrates the Rip-Pivot Sweep Drill vs. a defender. In earlier segments of the video, Luke showed how to master the breakdown techniques of playing low and explosive with the Sweep Stick basketball training tool. Now, Luke removes the Sweep Stick to attack a defender live.

I agree it’s a travel. If you watch in slow-motion you see his pivot foot lifts just before the ball is out of his hand. But it’s almost impossible to see that in real time so it’s usually not called.

But if it’s a left foot pivot and you see the ball and his left foot hit the floor simultaneously, you know it had to have been a travel because the left foot has a much longer distance to go than the right hand to floor distance. So the refs should call it IMO.

You can’t rip it across your body in front of the defender like that. Bad advice

Good move except it's a travel that is rarely called. First dribble has to be on the inside of the leg to avoid the travel, then explode for space on second step second dribble
