Keir Starmer is Britain's new prime minister after the Labour Party won a landslide in Thursday's election, ending 14 years of Conservative rule. Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who was reelected as an independent, says the party now needs to offer meaningful change to the public, including on demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. "Whilst Labour has this huge parliamentary majority, their national share of the vote was only around a third of all votes cast. It's a very low mandate," says Corbyn.

Jeremy got 6000 more votes than Starmer.
Jeremy Corbyn got 3 million more in 2017 and 1 million more in 2019 than Kier Starmer.
So called Reef O geez, no doubt.
💯
Corbyn's riding had a larger turnout than Starmer's (49000 vs 38600). Both of them got about the same % of the vote (Corbyn 49.2%, Starmer 48.9%).
@@iron___Starmers majority was halved in his constituency.
Starmer is still a neoliberal warmongering ghoul. This is not a win.
No it most definitely isn’t- very concerned that this Man Starmer could well get the UK into another War!!
In fairness, from a perspective of the Left, it was pretty good - Greens got all the seats they were after and came second in 40 more - they might finally break the glass ceiling on becoming a serious party in an FPTP system. Indy candidates won a few seats, sending a message to Labour that they can't ignore Gaza or left principles, they also caused Tories to get into a few seats simply because the people barred from Labour went on as Independents and split the vote pretty neatly in half. Its worth pointing out that in all these seats, the spiteful labour right, who are controlling the mechanisms of the party right now, put a *lot* of effort into those seats in a mean=spirited attempt to crush left resistance, they failed.
A bigger concern is whether they can be gently steered to be more left wing and concillatory rather than competitive in the *next* election - if not, there is a worrying chance Reform could clean up more votes, as they came second in a lot of seats in England.
What a stupid non-logical post.
French did way better than the UK.
It may be not a win, but its not a loss.
Jeremy didn’t run against Labour, he was the incumbent. They ran against him after banning him from standing for Labour!

'Voter ID rule may have stopped 400,000 taking part in UK election, poll suggests'.
There is also the issue of postal ballot delays reported for 90 constituencies.
The results of these issues demand fresh recounts for those either unable to vote due to Photo Voter ID and those whose postal votes were delayed.

Thankfully I got my postal vote super early (then didn’t post it in time 🤦🏻♀️ and instead took it to my polling station on Thur… the freedom of an extended time window for postal voting is the main reason I’ve registered for one, because executive dysfunction and neurodivergence!), but I’ve always been fundamentally against mandatory voter ID because it disproportionally impacts the people who are typically more disadvantaged and more likely to vote for left parties!
@@EmmaVB82 Indeed, Tories have also changed postal votes returns process and those handing in postal votes to ensure the votes are received before 10pm (22:00) on polling day are now required to complete a form explaining why the postal vote is being delivered in person to a polling station and that votes don't count if the votes are put into the letterbox of council offices.
