  • Steve Irwin was widely known as the 'crocodile hunter' and was easily recognisable by his Khaki outfit and exclamations of 'Crikey!' but he was so much more. During his life he influenced a generation of naturalists and animal lovers with his exciting brand of hands-on conservation.
Sadly, at the peak of his powers Irwin would be tragically struck down while filming an episode of his popular TV show.

You had me in tears. Steve Irwin was such a good soul, he won’t be forgotten. I am glad his family carried on with the mission. Wonderfully done, thank you very much.

I own and operate a not for profit animal rescue, focusing on feral cats and kittens. I started this venture in 1989, not long before I became aware of Steve. I consider him a hero, a man of conviction. No one found more joy in purpose than he did. He would, indeed, be so very proud of his children. The one thing he said he wanted, the only way he would ever stop, is when his children took up the mantle to continue the mission. And they have. It is on my list of goals to visit Australia Zoo someday.

    Watching this made me cry…
I loved him so much as a kid.
Now I have a room full of snakes, geckos, tarantulas and alike. He pretty much kickstarted my passion for nature and my outview on life
How can one be so cool and precious?
    What a man

YOU OWN SNAKES AND GECKOS AND TARANTULAS? PEOPLE SHOULD BE BANNED FROM OWNING SUCH POISONOUS CREATURES. THEY ARE PALPABLY UNFIT TO BE KEPT AS PETS.

I was born in 1998 as well. I grew up watching Steve. His shows were my favorite as a child, and I distinctly remember the day I heard what happened to him. I think it was the first time I really experienced loss even though I didn't know him or ever meet him, I loved him and it broke my heart. This video had me crying 😅

Too soon mate. This video had me tearing up 90 seconds on. Steve Irwin was takin too soon. A true living legend… national treasure. I love animals and understand them because of steve. He was my baby sitter. I’m almost 4o I can honestly say I had the best baby sitter teaching me about bugs and lizards before UA-cam was a thing.

So much I never knew a Steve. Trying to save 2 divers etc. What a great human, we need more Steve’s. His son is a really endearing person too, reminds me to much of his dad, he’s a double in every sense.

I used to call him the 'animal irritator. He never harmed an animal, but he'd make some very angry. His unbounded energy could be over the top, and I'm not sure if he didn't live his life in a kind of manic state that pushed him into chancy situations. He was a very caring compassionate man, who cared so much for the creatures on our world and tried his best to make us care too. I hope he can rest now, and his legacy will carry on.

I didn't grow up with Steve, but with the books by Gerald Durell. He was a large influence on my view of the world and my later decision to study environmental engineering. It is people like Gerald, Steve, Jane and Sir David who inspire generations to do what they can to preserve and protect.

I was in 7th grade when Steve died; I will never forget going upstairs into my bathroom and just sobbing for hours and hours. It was, and still is truly devastating to have lost this man that I never even knew, but was a hero to me as a child, as well as so many other children and people around the world
This was a very good, tasteful reflection upon Steve’s life, work, and untimely death. Bravo, and warm wishes from Houston Tx

I grew up watching Crocodile Hunter and his other shows all throughout my childhood. It was a staple the entire family loved to pieces, so when we heard of his death it hit us very hard. He was such a great man, not only for the animals he loved but his family and colleagues too. The world has not been the same without him, but it's amazing what fantastic work has been carried on by his family. Steve would be so proud of his children, and Terri should be proud of herself for raising them so well whilst dealing with the grief of losing her husband. I hope one day to follow in Steve's footsteps and get into conservation. I'm going back to school later this year to study Animal Science and Animal Welfare and Behaviour. My interest lies more on the avian side of things, but Steve's message is something that has stuck with me for most of my life. Along with David Attenborough, he is one of the men I admire most in the world. Rest in peace Steve, the world misses and loves you still.

He had a mission & nothing was going to stop him & he found Terri & she just made him even better! Im so impressed with their children! Bindi & Robert both seem to be fantastic just like their mom & dad! Thank you for the video! ❤

My heart still aches when I think of the day we heard the unexpected news report on the radio at work. The emotional impact made us all feel as though time stood still for a little while. No one could believe what we’d just heard and tears flowed😭 I live on an island on the Queensland coast of Australia, not very far from Australia Zoo and the impact was felt Australia wide (and of course the world). I would HIGHLY recommend a visit to the Australia zoo but allow a second day because 1 full day is not enough time to see everything or truly appreciate and absorb it all☺️

I loved him!!! I was the mother of a daughter and 7 months pregnant with my son when he died. I remember breaking down and just so heartbroken. Like i had lost my best friend. Lol. I watched his memorial service. Seeing his wife so devastated and couldn't imagine the pain she was feeling. I can still picture her. It affected me more than i can explain. I watched as his daughter took the stage. And being in awe of this beautiful girl who treasured her father spoke so clearly as the rest of us all cried. It was a testament to who she was and would become and also how much she was loved by both her parents. And when I watched her perform the dance for her father on Dancing with the Stars. She took my breath away. And now seeing her as a wife and mother. Seeing how handsome and talented his son is. And how his little family is carrying on his life, his love, and his message. Who could ask for any better legacy than that? Thank you for your video. Brought back so many emotions but love to remember the larger than life personality that was Steve Irwin

Oh, yes, I definitely cried just now remembering his loss. I grew up admiring his focus on the animals (especially compared to other wildlife hosts during the time period). I’ve always been passionate about animals, and I always will be.
Presently, I only have a cat (although truly she owns me) and a retired Blue Tongue Skink from a petting zoo I used to work for, ran by a remarkable woman who taught me most of what I know about a wide variety of animals.
Covid forced her retirement a bit early, but my time there resulted in some of my most treasured memories. My favorite types of gigs were when we did animal therapy with retirement homes and special care facilities, but I also really loved when we did educational programs for various summer camps or hosted by local libraries.
Admittedly, the birthday parties were less fun, but running a zoo is rather expensive.

I never met him, but a guy I knew was working at Wildlife Images in Grant's Pass. Oregon, when the Irwins filmed there to raise money for it. I asked if he could get a couple of autographs for my kids. Mr. Irwin drew them both pictures and personalized them to my kids. The guy said he was the nicest. I was nine Turing ten and still trying to get over my great grandmother's death when I heard that steve died. I was a big fan of his always running in the living room when I had finished my homework just to watch steve watching made me love animals as well. I could remember coming home from school arguing with my brother about who would win in a fight T-Rex or Dracula when I over heard my dad saying something about steve more on the lines to 'I don't know how im gonna tell my nine year daughter about steve dying' I looked up at him as soon as we came inside, I gently pulled in the rim of my dad's asking "daddy is steve Irwin dead?" My dad could see it in my eyes that I was gonna burst into tears by the time it was dinner dad came through the front door "sorry Dino kid but I've got some bad news, steve Irwin died" I basically bursted into tears right in front of my siblings I couldn't cope with it by the time I was in high school we had celeb day at school and could go as our favourite celebrity I went as steve Irwin of course. We all sat there waiting to read out biographies and I was the last person. I couldn't read about Steve's death cause I'd bust into tears if I did so my teacher read it out for me and I cried like a baby in front of everyone. I know I shouldn't be crying like I am now cause I'm now twenty six but steve was my hero and made me love crocs (doesn't mean I'd get in the water with one though, I'd be croc food if I did) what I'm tryna say is without steve, I wouldn't have liked crocs as I did and still do. You could definitely call that a freak accident but when you deliberately put yourself in danger for decades like that, eventually you roll bad dice. It's statistically inevitable, regardless of how tragic or sad the final outcome may be. Eventually the cards don't fall your way - happens with anything. Facts (like a high statistical probability of death doing what Irwin did) don't care about your feelings.

I am Australian and feel I can be frank. Steve was misguided. He may have talked conservation etc. but the truth is he became absorbed with his celeb status and was in fact cruel to wildlife for the sake of money and fame. He was killed by an animal that is not normally aggressive unless cornered and fearful, and that he had deliberately antagonised the animal to get some good pictures, a fact that is lost on most people. I think his mantra would have been “the end justifies the means”
For his family, sad indeed, but for the rest of us… meh!

So many people loved Steve Irwin, and I wish him peaceful rest, but I saw a little bit of one show, felt uneasy about how hyper things seemed, felt it was not the right way to act around animals, and didn't watch any more. I decided to watch this vid to try to understand his appeal. I guess he did a lot of good for animals and that's the important thing. I just don't like any kind of "reality" shows, I guess.

A older teen and I were on a sand bar fishing back towards the beach and we heard a WHOSHING and kept looking around and a black 1-2 foot across thing was swimming at us homing in so we freaked out and threw our poles down and took off but we had to dive in and swim 20 yards back across the deep part and it chased us back to shore and a couple days later Spanish kid talked me into getting CONK shells after 2 days of heavy rain and I did and he started thrashing around I reached out to him as his head came up and said SOMETHING ON MY HAND!!! And we pulled it up and a CONK snail???Closed it's shell protection plate on his thumb and we carried it to hos room and MOM FREAKED and put his hand in boiling water but it didn't wk and went to hospital and they removed it and saved his thumb but he would cuss in English and his mom didn't know but it sounded like she was CUSSING very well in Spanish when we came in the MOTEL not hotel room. Where you park outside the room. I've witnessed a lot of WIERD SH** Good and horrific but Steve was the BEST at SNAKE HANDLING and we swam with HUNDREDS of mokisins/vipers and in creeks we played in Gwinnett SUBURBS of Atlanta Lake Norman and very POLLUTED.
