My man witnessed the rise and fall of Napoleon's nephew and his empire, the creation of the 3rd French republic, the birth of Italy, the birth of Germany as an actual solidified nation, and died in the midst of a global conflict that changed the world forever...
...all of this lived by a man whose voice we are now bearing witness to through a century old recording. A LOT has since happened.

This is why FJ is such a fascinating person, he was what can be considered the last monarch of the old world, but yet still lived long enough to see the end of the 19th century. I always encourage people to learn about him, as he is very fascinating for this reason.

true, but unfortunately giving the green light to war with Serbia was the step that doomed his empire.
That being said, it's almost impossible to imagine how the world would have looked like without WWI and with Austro Hungary still existing. @@ohdoggo3359

Even though I will not be the first to admit that mein Deutsche ist nicht gut, I could hardly understand him. Franz Joseph's voice sounds like it's from decades before 1915, as even Kaiser Wilhelm's voice recording, made in 1914, just as WWI was beginning, sounds much clearer. The voices of Nicholas II and George V are also clearer than this one. At least I get to hear the voice of an old, old man. Franz Joseph was eighty-five when he made this recording.
