My man witnessed the rise and fall of Napoleon's nephew and his empire, the creation of the 3rd French republic, the birth of Italy, the birth of Germany as an actual solidified nation, and died in the midst of a global conflict that changed the world forever... ...all of this lived by a man whose voice we are now bearing witness to through a century old recording. A LOT has since happened.
This is why FJ is such a fascinating person, he was what can be considered the last monarch of the old world, but yet still lived long enough to see the end of the 19th century. I always encourage people to learn about him, as he is very fascinating for this reason.
true, but unfortunately giving the green light to war with Serbia was the step that doomed his empire. That being said, it's almost impossible to imagine how the world would have looked like without WWI and with Austro Hungary still existing. @@ohdoggo3359

He led Austria throughout the biggest and most horrific war the world had ever seen. He may have lost, but was always aware of the situation and was a very good leader. May he rest in peace.
Even though I will not be the first to admit that mein Deutsche ist nicht gut, I could hardly understand him. Franz Joseph's voice sounds like it's from decades before 1915, as even Kaiser Wilhelm's voice recording, made in 1914, just as WWI was beginning, sounds much clearer. The voices of Nicholas II and George V are also clearer than this one. At least I get to hear the voice of an old, old man. Franz Joseph was eighty-five when he made this recording.
While I have not gone far into looking, I have tried to find someone that might be able to do it. However I cannot. It would be very interesting to hear it enhanced and cleaned a bit.

It's not a very impressive voice. It would make him seem passive. My Moravian grandmother thought Austria-Hungary civilized. Maybe this is one reason she believed that.

I have never heard his voice before. Good Job!

There is one recording of Bismarck. The guy was 2m tall and an impressive appearance, but had a very high pitched voice.
A very haunting voice from the past...I think its fantastic to hear and research what was being said.

Yes, @@Deere55 , in 1916 more precisely.
RIP
Franz Joseph I of Austria
(1830-1916)
Sounds quite young for an 85-year-old man
Did not expect it to be so high
Me neither, however I could not say what exactly i Would expect.
Increible pensar que fue el hermano de Maximiliano de Habsburgo.
You did it again! Great like your posting of the audio of Kaiser Wilhelm I. Thanks to the poster below who gives a translation/synopsis.
Wonderful.

This 85 years old dude spoke fluently even more than 19 years old me
Would be nice if it was a bit more clear/enhanced, but noneless, good job👌🏼🔥
He had a wonderful voice...besides i love the friendship between wilhelm and Franz Joseph ❤
i do not care.. Franz had the most majestic facial hair
I remember that voice❤
Wish that recording could be digitally cleaned up. It would be a really great historical record.

@@Wilhelm-Von-HohenzollernRTX Voice does a good job but you have to play it back in real time. For a short clip like this it should be real easy
I have a great respect by him, but History is not forgiving: like old King Croesus of Ancient Lydia, he went to war and destroyed his Empire
What did he say in English?
Oh Wow ! What is he saying?
He was speaking of his support for state support/aid of Widows of the first world war.
Didn't he compose "Edelweiss"?
W Königreich Lombardei-Venetien
un po' in ritardo. e meglio l'europa attuale, di quella allora.
His son blew his brains out in that bizarre suicide pact. Ever read about that?
I have, quite interesting

His niece-in-law, Empress Zita, claimed otherwise. It was a political assassination, covered up with the melodramatic Meyerling narrative.
Too bad there is no translation.

Very interesting thoughts
The Empire was indeed civilized. The gentler counter-part to the Prussified German Empire.
It was one year before he died. He was already very old in 1915.
Do we know what he's saying at all?
Not to my knowledge, however if anyone knew, I'd be interested to know.
