The first Black Sabbath album to this very day is my most favorite heavy metal album. Black Sabbath just wanted to be that much darker and heavier than the other bands in Birmingham. They wanted to shake up the hippies, it was almost like they were asking where is all the universal peace and love? In the process Black Sabbath created a new genre. Their first album is a cinema for the ears.
In praise of Devo Freedom Of Choice is in my book, where they gelled. Every song on that album is great.

Woah! I just listening to it again before I decided to look at comments. How crazy is that LOL!
It’s amazing just how much listening to this pressing has changed my feelings about the first album.
Which I never hated. But I found it to be my least favorite of the original line up and I even used to think that it sounds like they are still finding themselves......Now I listen and I think “how could I have thought that? They know exactly who they are”!
...And who knows, it may have just been that time has changed my perspective on it.....I am somtimes that way with movies too.....I watched "Taxi Driver” in my mid to late 20’s for the first time and my response was .....”that’s it”?
I saw it again decades later and it was like a gut punch into my soul......I went out bought it on Blu Ray and listened to all the commentary tracks and watched all the extras.
It might not have mattered if I had bought this pressing or not. I might have just been ready to hear it with new ears.

A most unique album in the evolution of rock and metal. It really sounds like a band jamming in a garage and I’d be willing to bet the bass is mixed louder or at least as loud as the guitar. Both of these make it quite unlike most anything I’ve ever heard. The 2012 remaster on CD I own sounded particularly good, especially the bass and I believe it was issued in 2016 with an extensive essay and promo photos and labels from around the world. I also have a 2009 double 💿 with alternate takes (and lyrics)and both “Wicked World” and “Evil Woman.”

Hi there..Old Feller here..I saw Sabbath back in January 1971...yes THAT old! So as a result I have minor hearing problems in my Left ear...damn you Geezer Butler! I have this very LP in the UK it came yesterday...There's a phrase in Northern England when you feel that you might have been conned into spending too much money..Its called " Having your pants pulled right down" But whilst spending 45 pounds..55 dollars or so on an Album that you already have is strange enough, I can only completely and TOTALLY agree with you on this Recording..it SO GOOD that I will never play another version again, also, like you , let's have the whole catalogue...I spose getting the original Master Tapes might be an issue. But never have I felt that rinsing so much on one Album was SO worth it!

It's amazing what they can do with such ancient tapes. Did you see that a box set of the Tony Martin Sabbath era just came out? Big investment if not a fan, but these albums have been out of print and going for big money for decades.. if you enjoy some more straight up melodic hard rock/metal it might be worth investigating.

I love the Rhino Hi-Fi pressings of The Cars debut and Candy-O. But I passed on this Sabbath debut. It really wasn’t necessary. My OG 1970 press sounds absolutely amazing. I don’t need to hear a remaster of this one. For the High Fidelity series… Rhino should stick to the albums that are hard to find great sounding pressings for.

I ordered this the day it was announced from Warner Music Canada. I just got an email from them today that the new shipping date is June 14. I am kinda worried what that means. I hope I get my copy or I'll be pissed.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone I am waiting on mine too and if you go to the Steve Hoffman forums upset there are many there haven’t got a copy yet. They have emailed them back and apparently some have received responses that there have been shipping delays. They haven’t elaborated but I think it’s quite obvious., think did not expect to sell out as quick.

There have been quite a few other good non jazz releases in this series….Television, Grateful Dead, Van Morrison

What cd player/dac are you using? Your vs videos all seem to go in the same "vinyl better" direction. I like my vinyl too but my Cambridge/Schiit Modius combo is extremely close to my TT set up..in terms of punch, depth. Just saying.
    Spin on you crazy diamonds

Actually there have been a number of albums where I like the CD better or just the same (sometimes it’s a mixed bag too where I like and dislike certain aspects of each). Maybe I should do a video dedicated just to that. Thanks for the comment.

Ordered mine on 5/18 and I'm still waiting for it. Best part is I told my boss about it and he ordered it on 5/20 or 5/21 and he already received his on Monday (6/10). How the hell does that work? I have several other RHF pressings and they're great but the PAY and PRAY ordering process is completely unacceptable in 2024.

High gloss cover and high gloss sound. Not the way the music was intended. It should be dark and mysterious, not bright. The first UK vertigo is still king.

I remember this album had a scary doomy sound when it came out that added to its impact ,,,has now been stripped clean and clarified for the "audiophile"
thats unfortunate in my opinion ,,but we all have our own preferences

Thanks for sharing that. I have never had access to an original (or even vintage) pressing of this album (and my CD copy went missing years ago.....I suspect someone “borrowed” it from me LOL).

Wow, your least favorite sabbath album. Ozzy catalog I assume. Mine are actually chronologically. from debut to Never say die. It seemed to me every album digressed in songwriting & the sabbath sound especially after the first 3. That album is incredible considering it took tham about 2 weeks to make. Just came off the road, never were in a studio before. Just performed their live gig concert in the studio & that came out of it.

The obi and the labels suck, can we leave the obi for the Japanese stuff, nobody wants some annoying useless bit of cardboard
