*Success!* #Nexus5 *now running* #Lollipop :) *[ADB Sideload]*
Thanks for making this video, great job.
And thanks to everyone on the threads too, it took a bit of extra study to gather all the right components together, followed by some trial and error, but got there in the end.
My main issue was ’device not found’ after the adb command. Solved by installing the Google USB drivers from the SDK manager while connected.
The whole update from start to finish took about an hour, with much of the time waited at the installing Android stage; apps, contacts and media.
_Note: This worked for 4.4.4 with Android stock, as stated in the video._
Good luck installing and happy Lollipopping...
*Update:* Forgot to mention: this update method didn't affect any current data or apps - in effect it was the OTA update, manually applied.

Gavin Mazzola even i am facing same prob;em it says system\drive.apk has unexpected content plss help
Qbking77 does this delete all files in the device?
Thank you. It's reassuring to know that there are people out there like you that can guide a novice like me through this complex upgrade. I was very nervous - but followed your tutorial closely as I did not want to brick my device. After the upgrade was complete, the system them prompted me to upgrade to Lollipop 5.1 - excellent! so now I have the un-buggy version (presumably)
upgraded my sisters Nexus 7 Wifi only tablet to Lollipop thanks to this video. awesome tutorial bro. Did I mention that her device was bricked some how? I don't know what she did to it but BOOYAA!! it's running Android 5.0.
Just saying that I have non of the phone you are updating but you are a legend for spending time to help everyone PS. Biggest fan
Just did this to my 2012 Nexus7 using the zip file from your website. Worked perfectly. Thanks to r posting.
Excellent tutorial. Was able to easily sideload 5.0 then right after received an ota to 5.0.1. Biggest issue was the drivers.. Even having the official google drivers was giving me grief over Windows 7. It seems like it read my device distinctly via USB regularly connected, in recovery mode then also sideload mode. When I installed the universal ADB drivers from your link the device was recognized finally in sideload. Big thanks, great job.
Fantastic. Very easy upgrade process to follow and my tablet is booting up right now after hopelessly trying for three days.
Wow! 3 hours later..this effort included installing java 32 bit, then 64 bit, going back to turn USB debugging on (oops). Then editing driver .inf file and finally re-configuring windows 8.1 to ignore digital signatures.......but it WAS WORTH IT!!!
THANKS because of you i was able to update my nexus 7 2012 to android lollipop !!
subbed!!
i got the can't not read. used the file razor-lrx21p-factory-ba55c6ab.zip for my nexus 7 2013

No device found.
To fix/install Android USB driver on Windows 7/8 32bit/64bit:
Connect your Android-powered device to your computer's USB port.
Right-click on Computer from your desktop or Windows Explorer, and select Manage.
Select Devices in the left pane.
Locate and expand Other device in the right pane.
Right-click the device name (Nexus 7 / Nexus 5 / Nexus 4) and select Update Driver Software. This will launch the Hardware Update Wizard.
Select Browse my computer for driver software and click Next.
Click Browse and locate the USB driver folder. (The Google USB Driver is located in \extras\google\usb_driver\.)
Click Next to install the driver.

i got the can't not read. used the file razor-lrx21p-factory-ba55c6ab.zip for my nexus 7 2013
Thanks, super helpful! Got 5.02 running!
Hey Tim,
Great Video. You should keep doing this!
I Finally have Lollipop,Thanks to you.
The device not found issue is really, really annoying. Tim, can you do a video on how to fix the drivers for the N7 2012 and/or 2013?! I can't seem to get resolutions from googling it to work! So frustrating.
Figured it out. When you have your tablet in the time waiting for the sideload, you'll connect it and you'll hear a thump sound instead of a successful USB connection noise from your computer. At that time, go to the device manager and install the driver from the sdk folder, extras, google, usb_drivers. It'll install and find the device after that. Man, I've really struggled with that every update! (I did follow and add this line to the driver update file: blog.dantup.com/2012/10/fixing-adb-device-not-found-with-nexus-7-in-recovery-mode/ No idea if that was the reason why it worked.
***** i dont understand, did you add the whole thing to under the nexus 7 part? can you take a pic for me im having a hard time lol
***** Oh man you are awesome! thank you for this! followed everything you said and it worked!
HuskyboyDrew can you help me out bro, idk what to add
Matthew Garcia add just that one line that's shown last about the device ID.
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_D001
In the 64 section as you scroll down. Like I said, not sure if that's what pushed me over the edge, but it all works now. You can test if you've got connection by typing
adb devices
And something should be listed. Does that help?
Thanks dude! updated my new nexus 7 to lollipop!
that was super easy. Took like 5 mins. Thank you man
Thanks for this great video! Before i follow this method, want to know if this method voids warranty of the device?
Need help - The file transfers across fine through adb, my only issue is when my nexus 7 (2013 wifi only) goes to install it chucks up this error: signature verification failed - I've used the correct file but still no go - any ideas?
Is there any way to do the manual update wirelessly? My charging port no longer works so can't connect my Nexus to the computer. Any suggestions?
tells me device isnt found when i try and send the zip over.
When my device is on it shows that its connected. I've accepted the RSA (or whatever its called) key and tried it in usb debugging MTP and PTP..
Am i doing something wrong?
It worked fine on my Nexus 5... i have no clue whats wrong. I've tried everything.
800mEric Can't find "Android ADB Interface"... is that meant to be a folder inside the android sdk folder?
800mEric nevermind i found out what i was doing wrong.. i didnt click on let me pick my list..
thanks! all working good now!
800mEric I can't find "Android ADB interface" even though I clicked on Let me pick my list. It's not in there, even though I installed everything.
800mEric I turned on USB debugging, went back to recovery mode but it still won't recognize my device. So I went back to Device Manager and Nexus 7 but Android ADB interface still isn't an option.. I installed all the Google Drivers and ADB drivers but it's still not there.
Mine said cant read the zip file i downloaded. Not new to flashing files or android, but I'm not sure what went wrong. P.S. I'm using mac also.
Me too on this. The file downloaded was a .tar file, but when I copied and pasted it into platform-tools the .tar did not show up. So when I pasted I added the .zip as instructed. Help please.
***** I think I found the problem, I have a 2012 nexus 7 (no camera on back, plus you read nexus from left to right in portrait mode)
***** Well that didn't change anything still says cannot read
FINALLY FIXED DEVICE NOT FOUND!
C:/android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\android_winusb.inf)
EDIT THE FILE
go to Nexus 7 (make sure to go to the proper OS: 64 or 32 bit):
Adding %CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_D001
line worked for me!
i got the can't not read. used the file razor-lrx21p-factory-ba55c6ab.zip for my nexus 7 2013
Julio Romero same here
Thanks so much for your video, just a few things. I updated Nexus 7 2012 with Windows 7. The shortcut to command prompt didn't work for me, so I had to type in the location myself, so that maybe something you could add to this video or comments as it seems others might have this issue and might not know how to do this. I also had to do the last USB driver install for my laptop to communicate with the Nexus. Other then that it seems great. Just a few lagging moments but I think somewhere here you suggested to do a restore? I just wanted to take the time to say thank you for this video. I have been waiting for the update and still a month AFTER it's been 'released' still nothing in Canada, but other devices that was supposed to be release later received theirs. The only thing I still haven't figured out is *IF* I can get a password on restricted profiles and I still get the error that apps don't work with restricted profiles, but that is off topic.
Again thanks for your time in doing this, I found it very well done.
Hi, do you already have the 5.1? I have a Nexus 7 2013 and I heard that 5.0 have problems on this table. Can you send me more feedbak about this? Thanks!
The zip file is no longer available in your website so I can't download the zip file on my pc or anywhere where can I download the zip file ???
getting the cannot read message in the cmd window. Help!
Shift Right Click via Command prompt is not an option on my computer. Is there away to go around this step?
Finally it works.. Great job.. Thanks for sharing all the details needed
i got the can't not read. what should i do?
When I updated my Nexus 7 from Kit Kat to Lollipop, my tablet ran out of power. The Nexus 7 can't be charged through usb then, I tried to make battery directly charged. From then, the Nexus 7 stuck to the google logo when power on. I tried to bring it up through Recovery Mode by restore factory image, but failed. Right now, I can talk to my nexus 7 by using Android Fastboot driver. I wonder if I can still using adb sideload command to finish the reset of update?
After so many hurdles!! Lollipop on my nexus 7!! #India thanks mate?!! (But I ended up flashing my nexus once -_- )
thanks for this video!
is it the same method for the 2012 Nexus 7?
and as long as teh sdk files are downloaded to the C; drive it doesnt matter where as long its the same drive right it sais its installing in a differant area
I also have all the drivers installed and still no luck. I followed all the correct steps already. What am I doing wrong here?

My screen is stuck with the dots seems it's loading but nothing happens. any idea?
Do you NEED to setup adb on your computer... because I tried to and it just didn't happen.
So, I get "E: signature verification failed" and then "Update aborted" at around 5:10 in the video. I can't really find anything on this problem either.
Thanks fir the great tutorial. Im having a problem after sending the file to my nexus 7 2012.
" E: footer is wrong
E: signature verification failed
Instruction aborted "
And I checked everything is right!
Any help plz.
My command prompt says, "error more than one device and emulator." How can I fix this?
I haven't received the OTA Lollipop update on my Nexus 7 2013 yet. Why is it taking this long? Or do they not roll it out in Australia?
So I have a nexus 7 2nd gen lte but I don't have a plan on it so I use mine over wifi, will the update still work for my nexus?

Looking for the Nexus 7 LTE (2013) version, Any idea on when it will be up ?
its causing a lot of problems
its says it cant read the file
I manually installed Android 5.0 on my Nexus 7 following the directions here:
www.talkandroid.com/guides/beginner/how-to-install-the-lollipop-ota-on-your-nexus-device-download-links-included/
The advantage of doing this way instead of flashing is that it won't erase your data and settings. It's simply upgrading the OS.
thanks for the video I been waiting too long for the ota and cant stand anymore!
For downgrade to kitkat what can i do?because on android l youtube and videoplayer dont work.plecase help

Can you do a video on how to manually update a Samsung Galaxy s4 to Android 5.0
So we don't need to wipe the device? Does it wipe it when you update it?
thanks a lot on following up on the device not found. i was ready pull my hair out
Could you do future OTA updates after sideloading this or do I have to keep sideloading future android releases?
When does the update comes out OTA?
package expects build fingerprint of google/nakasi/grouper:5.0.2/LRX/1649326:user/relase-key ..............something more . than again E:Error in/tmp/update.zip (status 7) installation aborted.
plz give a solution
Worked perfectly on my Nexus 5, but my Nexus 7 is currently on LPV81C developer preview and I'm not having any luck. I get the error "Package expects buld fingerprint..." etc (if you need all this text let me know, but it basically says "you're on LPV81C not KTU84P so of course it doens't work you noob!")
Any ideas anyone? Will I just have to wait for the OTA? Will the OTA ever come if I'm on Developer Preview?!
Will I still get over the air update in the future with this method?
I keep getting cannot read error for the file any help?
are you running google now launcher ?? on top of that latest 5.0 update
If I'm at 4.4.4 on 2012 wifi..can I go straight to 5.1.1?
Qbking77 (Tim Schofield) I noticed in your version of SDK platform tools you had an extra zip file. Is that necessary in side loading?
No, probably just another zip file from another video I made :)
Thanks for the video now I can update!🙋
Everytime google crashes, i cant use google on that android, it just crashes, no google now. I wanna know how to downgrade.
Will this work for the Nexus 5 or is that a different procedure?
I have CWM 6.0.4.7

Thx for video! On point...
I installed it while having a custom rom etc. yesterday. Will that cause problems tim?
Any idea when is the LTE image is coming ?
thanks a lot bro, this was very help full,
Why isn't .zip showing in the file???
Do you have a link for the 5.0.2 for Nexus 7 2012
Can someone please tell me if this will work with the 5.0.1 update?
Is this for the 2012 Nexus 7?
I'm getting "e:signature verification failed"
mate .zip is not showing on window vista
I followed all the steps and I can't get to the system recovery screen With the drop down codes. What do I do? I have been toying with the buttons and no combination works.
try power then vol up, as shown in this video, dont press them together, press them one after the other.
***** i got the can't not read. used the file razor-lrx21p-factory-ba55c6ab.zip for my nexus 7 2013
NIcely done video. Wish this worked. "Device not found"
Guess I have to wait for OTA (and yes, I've tried ALL of the suggestions here, at XDA, etc.)
Finally got it to work! Nowhere could I find all of the pieces of the puzzle in one place, but somehow I got it to sideload. Editing the driver .inf was only part of the puzzle. Thanks again for the clarity of the video. As many times as I repeated this procedure, I don't think I'll ever forget the steps now.
Qbking77 (Tim Schofield) Thank you for the informative video, I was following this video and a guide that was posted by another user which helped me figure out the problem at the device not found stage. I just wanted to let you know so that you can inform anyone in the future. At the point of the device not found error, I installed the Google USB drivers and edited the .inf file. However when I went to the device manager and tried to update the driver, I could not find it in the list and when I used have disk and pointed it in the direction of the inf file it gave a hash error. It is only after I removed and reinstalled the USB driver and without making any change to the inf file, tried to update did it show the correct composite ADB driver from the list to pick from. After that, everything was easy. I just wanted to let you know that maybe for some people the editing of the inf may be unnecessary.
How do I update a rooted nexus 7 2013 to lollipop?
