So my list has a different philosophy behind it. I tend to factor in it's overall usage in career mode and I simply ask the question "How much does it replace the usability of other vehicles?". Value, speed, and versatility are all factors here, even if the handling isn't the best. GT1: Mistubishi GTO (4WD and Max Speed), Dodge Viper (Western and Normal), Nismo 400R (IA Prize and not that difficult to obtain) GT2: Nissan R34 GTR (Basically every 300+hp race including maybe the Pikes Peak Uphill), Dodge Copperhead (Gold A license and so fast for 295HP it can beat the Vector at Trial Mountain), Suzuki Escudo (All Free events) GT3: RUF 3400S (MR, Spyder, Boxer, Polyphony Digital Cup, just versitile all round), Polyphony 001/F094H (Easy to obtain with abusing save states and is the fastest car in the game), The big 3 (All for different reasons ironically. GT One dominates Test Course, R390 is excellent all round, and 787B clears endurance racing) GT4: Subaru Impreza Spec C (Best rally car in the game and clears most road car events), HPA Stage II Golf (Ridiculously cheap for how fast it is, you can obtain the RSC and sell it very early in the game), Toyota Milnolta (does require 25% completion but it's far easier to obtain this GTWC competitor than all the other LMPs, and it's faster than all of them) GT5: Mercedes CLK LM (You can do just the Special Events and win this in the AMG Academy. You can reach and beat Dream Car Championship using just this car), Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C6, (Very cheap and can also win most race car events with the Racing Modification) Red Bull X2010 (B-Spec) GT6: Mercedes AMG VGT (you get this for free), Tommy Kaira ZZ-II (60,000cr. I still don't get this), Mazda LM55 VGT (half the price of most LMPs) GTSpor-Honestly I don't think there's any notable OP cars from here on out. Also an honourable mention to the Honda Civic SIR-II. For being a starter car in most games it's way faster than it has any right to be.
For GT Sport, any 100k+ Cr. car you could use at the Blue Moon Bay money-making race would be considered OP, especially if you can tune it to N300 with minor suspension/transmission tweaks and still win the race! The Mazda RX500, Ferrari Dino, Ferrari GTO, Ford GT40 Mark I, Lamborghini Miura P400, Lamborghini Countach LP400 and Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary can all beat the race at N300 as long as the AI doesn't pick the LaFerrari. For all/around consistent cars to beat this race quick regardless of what the AI picks and still make big bank, then my favorite choices are the McLaren F1 (N500), Ferrari F40 (N400), Ferrari F50 (N400) and Porsche 911 GT3 997 (N400) 🤗 As for GT7, not sure what could be considered OP but all I do to grind credits is play the Sardegna TC 800 race with the Dodge Viper SRT GT3-R Gr.3 car over and over again (I also used this car to easily beat the game during Menu Book #39). No major tuning/upgrades needed for Sardegna, just run the whole race with Racing Softs, set Fuel Map to 5 and pit twice (first stop at end of lap 5, second stop at end of lap 10, both for tyres and fuel), and if you're struggling with grip, just max out front wing downforce 😁 Additionally, you could add the Dodge 'Copperhead' Concept Car to both GT1 and GT2 (which is obtained by getting all golds on both the National B License and National A License tests respectively). That car was an absolute beast! 🫡
The mitsubishi FTO and GTO racing variants from the GT1. The FTO went from fwd to 4wd and from V6 to in-line but it was brilliant in the lower bhp standing races, I'd love to see that one make a return too. The GTO was just nuts. Special mention to the Soarer too, I remember it being the car to beat in a 'gone like the wind' style high speed race
Mitsubishi FTO LM, way back in GT the original. This is a 4WD FTO touring car that I would use to dominate any endurance event. It wasn't as fast outright on straights as the competitors, but was easy to handle around any twisty stuff. However where it took over was it was so easy on gas and tyres you could run 2 or 3 times as long without pitting and win any endurance event easily. You had to believe in it though, because it just didn't seem quick enough right away.
Mitsubishi galant vr-4 or GTO full tune vs. any fully tuned skyline is very very fun. My personal favorite is the R-33 GTR, I very rarely lost with this beast.
From my experience, the Lotus Esprit Sport 350 was also very impressive when tuned properly, especially from GT4 onward once PD added aero to tuning parts.
Yeah, bring this on brother. There's alot of cars that can perform better in GT7 than others.... would be nice to get them in a group and a chat at the same time 👍
Love this list. My first full game is GT7. Got it in September and have all the cars you mentioned available in GT7. 787 being over used, thanks to you I’m switching to the Mazda LM Vision to credit farm Spa.
I'd forgotten about the GSX-R/4, I used to love driving that, it was so precise. One of my current favourites is along the same lines, the Honda 2&4, it's far quicker than expected from the specs. The car that really springs to mind as missing from your list is, well it's three cars, fairly closely related. The Opel Speedster/Vauxhall 220 and the Motorsport Elise. Perhaps not super powerful or super quick in ultimate terms, but they were hellish tough to beat in their categories. Oh, and I just thought of a couple more similarly hard to beat, the SuperAutoBacs Apex MR-S and Amuse S2000 GT1. All of these used to disappear into the distance while you were working through the other cars, and were fiendishly difficult to catch. I can remember the Panoz Esperante and Buick Special being formidable opponents in some events also. There was one race at Seattle I must have tried about thirty times before I even got as far as to see the Buick in the distance before the chequered flag was shown. Once you had a Spec B driver well levelled up, the Buick was a fantastic weapon to give to him.
I dont know if this will make the criteria...but the Senna Lotus F1car from 1987 was an absolute beast! I remember besting Sennas lap record at Brands Hatch and it was all i could do to tame that BEAST! I couldnt even imagine how he did it in the real one...unbelievable!
Some thoughts about two particular choices and mentions. Chaparral 2J: just recently tried it in GT7 with the new transmission and it is not just a biest but also an absolute blast to drive. In slow corners it's practically unbeatable when up against Group C and LMP cars. In fast corners newer opponent cars with more "traditional" ways of generating downforce catch up but for a car from the late 60's / late 70's it's still unmatched. Which brings me to your mentions of the Toyota 7: I loved this car in GT6! But not because I regarded it as OP but because it was a car that was hard to master even with extensive setup changes (like adjusting the brake bias to a ridiculous degree because otherwise you'd loose the rear under heavy breaking). It's stats may look incredible on paper but there is a reason it was regarded as a widow maker: it's short wheelbase (less than 4 meters, it's so short in fact that you can actually participate in the compact car cup in GT4 with it) makes it nimble but very hard to control on the limit, especially if you're used to drive without any stability control, let alone traction control. That's because, despite the massive rear wing it lacks downforce compared to newer vehicles and also kills it's tires in the process. I personally couldn't get this car to win the GTWC in GT4, even when coming back to the game a couple years after "trading up". And putting it up against the 2J it's laptimes on regular racetracks were consistently slower. So I would argue that it's a fair assessment to not put it on the op list. That being said I would make the case that every car from the late CAN-AM years that isn't the 2J and produces it's downforce with traditional means would come short against modern machinery (and Group C cars), even McLaren's M8 series and Porsche's 917/ series. Suzuki GSX-R/4: this car was truly a dream to drive. It was so dominant in fact that I remember open lobbies stating in their description that this car was not allowed to race, that's how op it was. As for cars you haven't mentioned that could be up there: the Honda HSV in GT5 was quite op for it's category, plus it was one of the DLC cars I couldn't have since I was still a minor when it came out. It's one of the very few cars in Gran Turismo that I actually despise for those exact reasons.
I think you hit the highlights; Escudo, 2J, LM55, 787B, 88 C-V, but I'd add the FTO LM, and honestly the old Lotus Elise 111R, since it punched vastly above its weight.
the Ginetta G4 another OP Car especially in gt5. it was replaced with another op car in gt6 but not as fun to use: Light Car Company Rocket. the Ginetta in gt5 maxed out at 277hp around 400kg and the fastest I've ever gotten without slip streaming was 302mph (500mph in draft with the x2010 redbull fan car on SSR7). the rocket on the other hand was stupid fast no matter what but with nitrous it would keep up with all of the gt6 top speed car builds... it made sense with 350 or so HP at below 400kg reving to 13,000+rpm.
Talking about gt6. The golf r can be used basically for everything except top speed tracks. Its so easy to use. Same thing for the Dino, it handles beautifully
Gt6 Nissan Stealth, Ford GT40 Mark 1, Honda NXS Type R, Toyota 2000GT, Toyota TS 030, Honda Castrol Magen NSX 00 Nissan Concept had nitro and many did not know that, Spyker C8 Laviolette 01 These are some of the cars that others were surprised to see and lose to.
I haven't played all of the GT games as I was born in 2001. I was lucky to play GT3 on my dad's PS2. We had GT4 as well but at this point the PS2 was doing the red loading needle of death when I tried to play that one. Can confirm that the Escudo is unwordly. I didn't really mess around with things like the Tommy Kaira ZZ-II though. I briefly played the GT5 campaign when we finally got a PS3 sometime after 2013. I didn't really remember anything standing out that much. However I was lucky to get a PS4 the winter after GT Sport released. I played it for a while just doing the dailies. In 2022 I preordered GT7 from WalMart. I remember when the Nissan menu came up I went out of my way to get the R32 ASAP. I loved it and used it for as many events as I could. It's what I used for the Oceania Cup and the WTC 600. After the Skyline menu I started using the R34 to get my dailies. I also can confirm the R35 is a beast. When I do the Turbo 700PP race at Interlagos with an AI R35 as the lead car they're nearly impossible to pass with my 669PP R34 on racing softs no less. I always have to go for some dive in the middle technical section to have any hope of pulling away.
Firstly, love the video, secondly, why isn't the Sauber C9 on the list. It is my go to car for all gr.1 events and when up against other cars of its era, it destroys them. Superior fuel consumption, tire wear straight line speed, cornering speed. Everything that you can think of but out of all of the cars on the actual video I would have to pick the Escudo. Dominant in every event that it can do. That is OP
Sauber is great but out of those classic Gr.1 cars I think it's all preferance. Most people like the 787 best, for me the Jag XJR-9 is the best of them by far and one of the best cars in gran turismo history.
From GT4, one can't ignore the Nissan R92CP and the Sauber C9 either, they're absolute titans. The Opera Performance S2000 will catch anyone off-guard, and so will the BMW M3 CSL and Lotus Esprit V8s if you're willing to try them out. From GT5, the most OP has to be the Furai. You can get it so early in the game, and it will end any prototype. Other strong options include the Amuse S2000 GT1 Turbo and Pagani Zonda R, another prize car. But I think the quintessentially most OP car in the GT series is actually the Lotus Elise, particular the 111R and Motor Sport version, since they're relatively cheap and have a lot of event access.
The gt one road car was nuts with the big turbo turbo upgrade in 2. 920hp and while it didn't have the all wheel kick the escudo had it could go toe to toe with it in terms of speed and agility in turns.
Truly hoping and praying that Polyphony Digital adds in a lot of road & race cars from the old games (including most that you've mentioned here) into GT7 ❤️🔥🙏
A top 50 OP car would be for me the HPA Motorsports Stage II R32 ´04. It was a godsend to start your campaign with. Or the Mitsubishi FTO LM editions, which could punch way above their weight.
Surprised the Opera Performance S2000 wasn't on this list. Not sure how it was on other games but in GT4 it was one of the best for cornering (if not THE best road car in terms of grip) for only 150k. Equip race tires and some upgrades to improve power or NOS and you had a weapon that could defeat most race cars, except for Group C and other High downforce monsters.
The chap 2J is always my favorite op car? Just wish they had more of the old can/am cars they were all op compared to the other forms of motorsports during the 70s
I would have the GT-ONE on my list the road version was a beast in GT2 and thanks to that extra 300hp was faster than the race versions and a close match for the Escudo.
I would include the GT-ONE for two main reasons: 1. Taking glitches into account its the fastest car ever in the Gran Turismo series. 2. Not taking glitches into account Im pretty sure it has the highest top speed of any car in Gran Turismo 5 including the Red Bulls.
I like the LM55 pick because of how versatile it is. It is competitive in anything at or above 700 PP with an ease of use that makes it feel like cheating.
I dont ever feel like the Playstation Pescarolo was OP is GT4. Only good thing about it over the competitors were its tire wear and fuel usage, but for sheer performance the fastest Group C cars were faster as well as the Audi R8.
I guess you could also consider cars which are OP in certain games, take the FXX in GT6 and the Tomahawk S in GT7, both for being classed as “Road Cars” when they clearly aren’t. Anyway, my definitive OP car in Gran Turismo would be the Tommykaira. It’s so cheap and just incredible value for money
Lotus Esprit and the Wine Red Ford Mustang from GT3 and GT4 i think... where CRAZY... Lotus can reach 370kmh+ and was actually drivable.. The Mustang was Cheap af and with the Base HP + OIL change and Turbo, u won easy every event in the early to mid game. Yellow Penzoil Skyline was with his 4WD OP Handling not the fastes but u can skip pit stop"s waht other cars cant. Like the EVO waht u mension.... 1. Lotus , 2. Red Mustang 3. Yellow Penzoil Skyline 4. VW R32 Tuning Edition 5. TVR racing E. ... the TVR RACER was his own genre ... even the enemys where to slow or to fast :D
we cant forget the AI driven cars that seem too op for the event they're in, like GTAm in the lastest game, seriously you need something way over the performance reccomandation to beat it, and of course the ford in GT4 The giulia appears in the suzuka european race 600 btw
The Rocket almost gace the GXSR4 a run for it money in GT5/6. Both would be a welcome return tbf.the ZZ2 was a cheaper but more capable n 4wd, poor man’s McLaren F1 😂 awesome car though.
Overall the toyota gt-one doesn't have the potential to become an op car as it lost all 3 ever races in its career respectively: porsche 911 gt1, bmw v12 lmr, nissan r391
Ive always hated the way poliphony and kaz are violently japan biased, any japanese car is so much more detailed and more powerful and there is so much more japanese cars... when i think about it i dont even want to play anymore
For me the OP car was the FTO LM Edition from GT1. I loved it so much I bought an FTO irl 10yrs later.
This was a fantastic video idea! So many legendary cars! Gran Turismo at its best!
I agree
The Castrol Mitsubishi GTO was very OP in the first 2 games!
So my list has a different philosophy behind it. I tend to factor in it's overall usage in career mode and I simply ask the question "How much does it replace the usability of other vehicles?". Value, speed, and versatility are all factors here, even if the handling isn't the best.

The mitsubishi FTO and GTO racing variants from the GT1. The FTO went from fwd to 4wd and from V6 to in-line but it was brilliant in the lower bhp standing races, I'd love to see that one make a return too.

Nice, I just posted about the FTO LM.
Mitsubishi FTO LM, way back in GT the original. This is a 4WD FTO touring car that I would use to dominate any endurance event. @@mitchellhenning158 Its not really op though is it. They are F1 cars, of course they were by far the fastest cars in the game

I'd really appreciate it. 😁
I forgot all about the GSXR4 and it was one of my favorites. I think it'd be great if they would bring it back with a Hayabusa engine this time
TVR Cerbera LM in GT1
Loved that thing.
The chap 2J is always my favorite op car? Just wish they had more of the old can/am cars they were all op compared to the other forms of motorsports during the 70s
The CanAm days were some of the best days in racing and defined motorsports with power and aerodynamics
@JK-g62 100% agree
Love the gt6 footage!
Surprised you didn’t include the LCC Rocket from GT6 as well, like the GSX-R it was insanely punchy for it’s category, supercar killer on a budget
Good call for sure
850 lbs / 385 kg, crazy light!
I would have the GT-ONE on my list the road version was a beast in GT2 and thanks to that extra 300hp was faster than the race versions and a close match for the Escudo.
I've been playing GT fun the beginning, trust me when I day this. The TVR Cerrbera LM GT 1.
I was disappointed GT1 wasn't given a fair mention. I'm probably too old.
Agree with you. The Cerbera was untouchable
I would include the GT-ONE for two main reasons: 1. Taking glitches into account its the fastest car ever in the Gran Turismo series. 2. Not taking glitches into account Im pretty sure it has the highest top speed of any car in Gran Turismo 5 including the Red Bulls.
Correct, the fastest car (top speed) in GT5 when properly tuned.
GT4 Chaparral 2J carrying me through the career
What about the Suzuki cappuccino with the engine swap?
Hey, HSG, can the Willys Jeep have a Gr.3 NSX engine swap?
The dodge viper gts in gran turismo 3 like the wind!!!!
I remember how hard it was to control the Viper at Laguna Seca for a lap in the license test...what a beast!
The Mazda furai in gt5.. the Toyota gt1 in various gt... Especially in gt2
The GT7 Escudo is still a beast tbf, it’s the fastest Sardegna 800 car
In GT5 the 2J was hard to beat in the Cote d'ivoire.
Its a hard one to beat at any track!
Its the Light Car Company Rocket for me.
Forgot the LCC Rocket?
Escudo, hands down
Even though its a little nuetered now? Lol
the escudo
Tomahawk or escudo, end quote. IMO
Maybe not too OP for some people but Espace F1 is most OP MPV in GT (in my opinion)
I’d say the Dodge Copperhead(Concept Car) LM from Gran Turismo 1 is quite OP.
Only US players know how OP it was.
Corvette ZR1 LM Race Car was OP in GT5. I was able to easily beat the Minolta in one
we cant forget the AI driven cars that seem too op for the event they're in, like GTAm in the lastest game, seriously you need something way over the performance reccomandation to beat it, and of course the ford in GT4
The giulia appears in the suzuka european race 600 btw
Just went back on that race for the weekly rewards race and I was shocked when I saw that gtam go from 15th to 2nd never seen an ai do that
PT Cruiser in GT3
The Rocket almost gace the GXSR4 a run for it money in GT5/6. Both would be a welcome return tbf.the ZZ2 was a cheaper but more capable n 4wd, poor man’s McLaren F1 😂 awesome car though.
number2-7-9 along side with saleen s7 gt-1 number 7 the race car too gt40 69
Update 4 cars next week.
Chrysler ME Four-Twelve
Id put the gt one over the r390 because its the best in gt2 and it didnt fall off campared to the r390
Tvr speed 12 best road car in every instalation.
Nahhh, the most OP car in GTs are...
TVR SPEED 12!!!😂
The Mazda 787b it's not op car
porsche 911 gt3 the 22 is rocket fast. the audi group 2 is faster than some gp1.
