An internet bill of rights would be the most significant cause for freedom of our times.
I agree. Because the Internet and these platforms are a place for debates not just to show people what you doing or how you living what to get in contact with family members but it is a place for you to debate and if we don't have a Bill of Rights for the internet we may as well have no rights in my opinion because most Americans are on the internet and if you can use the internet to silence people you don't like we may as well just rip up the Constitution an bill of rights.
How about world freedom of speech?
Trump is pushing for WORLD FREEDOM OF SPEECH and the access to uncensored X
Here's the thing: I think if a company identifies as a publisher, they have every right to curation, and they can dictate EVERY word on their platform, BUT if they have the right to dictate speech, then they should be held accountable for every word spoken on said platform! On the other hand, if a company identifies itself as an open platform, like most social media companies do, then they should NOT have the right to dictate speech, but because they cannot dictate speech, they are not responsible for the things said on their platform. You can't have it both ways though. You cannot censor speech you don't like, then claim zero responsibility when some nut job you agree with takes things too far! You're either a private publisher or an open platform; you can't be both, and the problem is: many social media companies have tried to be both, and that threatens free speech!
Exactly! Depending on what they're in court for, they will claim to be a platform or a publisher.. whichever suits their needs best at the time. I think regardless whatever they claim to be.. they should have to follow the law of the land they're operating in and in America.. we have free speech. Free speech specifically only exists to protect unpopular or "offensive" speech.
Except you can be both… Facebook has literally made this argument, successfully, in court. They’re a platform in that they don’t dictate what is put up on the platform but are a publisher in that they’re allowed to curate what remains on their site. Multiple courts have acknowledged this to be the case. Which btw doing otherwise would just make censorship worse not better

EXACTLY.
Free speech is essential to the continued existence of any democracy OR constitutional republic. As for propaganda or misinformation, it is the INDIVIDUAL'S responsibility to sort that shit out. The moment you have an outside force being able to enforce what is 'true', you've lost the core of free speech.
That changes when you are dealing with something like being placed under oath in a court room. Or if you are tasked with teaching a pre-determined set of material to students in a classroom, But something like "I'm voting for candidate x because of reason y" is totally up to the individual.
Propaganda thrives were no one is allowed to question it. The best way to fight bad information is to allow good information to compete with it in the 'free marketplace of ideas'.
Thank you for not forgetting to add in constitutional republic seems like people forget that we are a constitutional republic first and foremost.
Unfortunately Social Media has every ability to filter stuff out with their algorithms. You can say all you want, but if Elon Musk doesn’t like it, he can shadow ban and stifle its growth. Meanwhile, he can take any fringe opinions and unfounded conspiracy theories, or straight up fake-news, and push em into the top of our feeds. And this whole “End of Censorship” thing will make this blatant manipulation look like those fringe opinions are actually more common than they really are. It’ll look like they were stifled all along, and thanks Trump for letting their voices be heard!
But really it’s exactly what you said, an outside force affecting what people think is True.
Free speech law prevents government interference, not corporate choices. The main issue arises when corporations get too big, which I agree should be dealt with.

"500 years ago, saying the earth was round was labeled as misinformation." NOT TRUE, Nux. People in the medieval period, and in fact, going all the way back to ANCIENT GREECE, believed (knew) that the earth was a sphere. The difference is that, prior to Copernicus, people believed that the EARTH was the CENTER of the planetary system, not the SUN. Roman Catholic theologians like Boetheus and Thomas Aquinas, as well as writers like Dante, straight up say that the earth is round in their writings. NOBODY BELIEVED IN FLAT EARTH BACK THEN. That was a myth invented by Washington Irving. and propagated by Enlightenment writers in attempt to discredit Christians, but it's not true.
Buddy, you're incorrect. You're conflating two different things.
People absolutely did believe the earth was flat, sure, the time frame given may be wrong, but the bible makes it clear the earth is flat with a dome/ firmament on top.
Was the issue you're describing with the Romans about geocentrism? Sure, but those aren't the same issues.

@@MartinOReilly-mb4um Trump wasn't serious then, and he's not serious now. He's going to try to do things that he can't, then spend the rest of his term complaining how he was robbed of another presidential term.
Just remember, Trump is not a politician. He is a business man. His goal is efficiency. He will at least try to do everything he says, unlike real politicians. He means what he says and says what he means.
His goal is personal profit. He took more vacation days than the last seven presidents combined. That is nearly half a century of vacations, all taken in four years. He took in more bribes than every president in history: specifically the money he was paid to host Saudi princes in his new Saudi hotel that is exclusive to the royal family, and is literally just a small shitty hotel they don't literally stay at just launder money into, on it's own adds up to several billion. 23:40 I may be wrong here, but I don't recall Trump promising in 2016 to deal with social media censorship. It wasnt really on the radar for most people at the time. I think what Asmon is saying is he was hoping Trump would do something and not that he promised he would.
Trump actually did make legitimate attempts to uphold his campaign promises as much as he could. It is one of the main reasons I came around to him by 2020.
Really? The fact that he couldn't get Mexico to pay for the border wall was one of the reasons you voted for him this time? Seriously?
@jfleong1979 No one really cared about how it was paid for. They just wanted the border secured, and he was actively trying to do that. The promise to make Mexico pay for it was always confusing, and most conservatives thought it was empty. Mind you, he did end up making Mexico start assisting with patrolling the border on their side and actively helping in stopping illegal crossings. I actually believe he did try to find a way to make Mexico pay for it, but that is just an aspect that sounds good on paper to an outsider, but won't work once you understand the inner workings of politics.
Trump wasn't a politician in 2016 when he was saying those things. He didn't know what was and wasn't possible, so I was not overly critical in nitty gritty details so long as the big picture was handled.
Heck, the wall itself is a prime example. He promised a big beautiful concrete wall, but then he got in, and border patrol asked for fencing so they could still see through it to the other side and better guard against people trying to cross. It was clearly the better option when the experts on the matter weighed in, and I, for one, am happy he didn't just steamroll over them and demand his original idea.

I would say that Twitter is more right wing because there are more right wing people there because they are more censored on other platforms.
Twitter is *openly* biased to the right. Look at the banned words list (you can pull it up in your browsers scripts while on the site). You're not allowed to talk about ANTIFA in a positive light, but you're explicitly allowed to call people the N word. You're not allowed to talk too much about Palestine or call people Zionists, but you can call Muslims terrorists. Do you know who you can't call terrorists? Oh right, you can't talk about school shootings and gun control at the same time, but of course you can talk about going out and hunting FEMA workers. You know, literally hunting down and killing government aid workers.
The black and white lists are so openly biased to the right it really shouldn't be surprising that Elon personally tracks down and bans people for being too progressive, while personally un-banning explicit card carrying Nazi's. Okay, but Nux, the "no longer slaves to advertising" is 100% right. If these hypothetical 'non-censorship laws' affect all platforms, and none of them are allowed to strictly regulate (at least not to the same extent) content and commentary, the advertisers still need to advertise. They're not going to give up advertising to 100s of millions of potential consumers just because people might say disagreeable things on the platforms they'd be advertising to.
With the increasing breakdown of the narratives they've been trying to help push, those narratives are becoming less of a factor for companies that advertise, and they're more worried about brand association. Once there's not really any way to forcefully stop the potential for disagreeable association, these companies will be stuck with people speaking their minds, and will have no choice but to advertise on platforms where people can do so.
The companies doing the advertising will have to realize their place, which isn't lording over the platforms to assist in controlling the narrative.

my go to analogy for free speech and private platforms is: if your soapbox(platform) is the size of the entire market square(the internet), then you do not have a private platform, you have a commoditiy. these social platforms are so big that they cease to be private platforms, even though they still are. since the internet has more or less "shrunk" to the point where its mostly 5-10 BIG sites, their platforms have proportionally grown to fit the market square with a razor thin separation between them, like crown shyness in treetops.
Daaaaaammmnnn the basedness of Trump was on the 11th level!
13:35 im glad you mentioned "publisher" it's very important
Trump doesn't have complete immunity. That's not what the court ruling said
There is no balance. I am black and see black people posting all kind of racist stuff with hardly any retribution.
A Democrat Senator is the most recent example of attempted censorship. Due to Pepe memes on Steam.
Lol what was the story there? I remember vaguely something about someone banning Pepe because they thought it represented something that it did not?
@@BeczaBotpepe was labeled as right wing and banned from many platforms
@@BeczaBot The ADL basically put out a hitpeice on Steam and now lawmakers are talking more censorship
@@BeczaBotthey’re labeling pepe a hate symbol then sent the ADL after steam and trying to take control and censor what they can say/do
Section 230 is why they're allowed to exist. But by being moderators they're crossing the line. 230 was to allow them to exist without the accountability of a publisher. How they can be stopped is to just hold them accountable like 230 should. It just isn't being enforced.
Just look at the full bill. There is part 1 and part 2. People filing lawsuits aren't getting past part 1. Because part 1 is being enforced as a catch all without looking at 230. (You can still remove all the stuff that's illegal)
The more Trump talks, the more Nuxanor has Lore to feed on...
Hi, Internet! I would like to suggest this video: "Thrawn: The COMPLETE Life story (Canon) Part 1". A video made by the Channel known as: "MetaNerdz Lore".
Trump will NOT end the war on free speech.... but he will be the greatest champion on that fight on behalf of free speech. That is going to be one of his greatest contributions to humanity and society.
As a person without rights, I agree with this weird blue character and papa Nurgle
Ah, daemon prince of nurgle asmongargle
My understanding of the Tim Pool thing was a media group was starting up on UA-cam and licensed one of his podcasts to attract viewers and that group was being backed by Russia. Was there something else?
Pretty much what I've seen as well. Also no one should trust Merrick Garland to tell you what day of the week it is anyways so screw that pos.
Nope that's it. He is currently sueing the major news outlets that have made the claims that he is Russian propaganda.
Nope. That's what it was.
You should not face repercussions for misinformation/disinformation, who determines if it is or isn't? You cannot have conditional liberty, or you will lose all liberties.
Having a proper judicial procedure and jury of your peers is necessary to have justice in a free society.
The "dictator" that arrives to power and says "you are free to talk bad of me"
Interesting 🤔🤔
Holy fuck the mad man is actually doing it.
It's great
21:00 I think you're misunderstanding. He isn't saying he's getting rid of misinformation. He's saying he's getting rid of any federal agency or department's ability to call anything misinformation. Don't know if he'll pull it off, but I think it sounds like a good idea.
Tie these platforms back to the Eisenhower anti-propaganda act that droneboma resented in 2012.
............The Smith-Mundt Act banned *state agencies* who produce propaganda intended for foreign audiences from broadcasting to the domestic US audience. It was amended in 2012 because it's wording basically blanket banned producing English content for online audiences, since literally everywhere will have some significant American audience. It allowed the CIA to produce funny memes to topple fascist governments. It had and has never had anything to do with commercial broadcasters.
Smith-muntz act
The way he wants to fix 230 does not give republicans the upper hand in any way. It simply says that if a platform wants 230 protection, they cannot act as a publisher, which basically means they cannot censor anything that is not illegal.
You know, Trump suffering from all he has over the past 8 years is actually a benefit for us all. Cos if he hadn't he would not be as half as strong on these issues as he is now. Suffering can make a man only more determined to make it right!
“Those who have rights and those who don’t” = “my fellow Americans and those unfortunate souls who don’t live here”
Lots of people in the US have diminished rights. Fewer rights than people in many European countries.

Asmondgold is correct about the advertising impact, they can't use advertisers' wishes as an excuse to censor
Basically if the advertisers try to say "hey we aren't happy with this speech over here.. if you don't get rid of it, we're pulling our sponsorships" Twitch would no longer be able to honor it for money, they'd be breaking a law by censoring it for the advertisers. Not sure if the advertisers could get in trouble for trying to force it, not sure how that would play out. I guess the easiest work around would probably be advertisers directly reaching out to streamers that already support their 'view' and just give them a deal, though I'm reallllly curious how this will all actually play out in regards to advertisers.
Social Media Companies being private companies as an argument falls apart when you find out that it was the US government telling telling them to censor people's opinions.
Should social media be as free to say what you want as a telephone, or should phone calls be regulated to get in line with the standards of social media? Pick one.
words arent action, so yes
The house just passed a law allowing the president to declare non profits as terrorist organisations at will
36:00 LMAO It was even the same cadence
"It's a private platform"
Constitution > private policy
The policy of a company does not ovewrite the law.
I would trust trump with the deathnote alot more than the rest of em 😂
If social media companies want to say they are privately owned, then they shouldn't qualify for any government funding or assistance.
Two people that don't pay attention to politics, suddenly trying to pay attention to politics is sort of painful to watch. It's like spectating a factory green mech with the Cadet tag in mwo. Yeah, they're on your team and you're glad to have them, but man is it hard to look at.
As someone who also does not pay attention to politics, I very much enjoy these two people looking into politics in this brief period of time.
They are learning thou but i suspect it will take them a few years to figure out that 80% of what they know about political people is a lie
Lol true
I forgot all about the death note trump thing lol
23:40 He did everything he could, to do everything he said he would do - he's not a dictator, and both rinos and donkeys did everything they could to stop him from accomplishing what he set out to do.
Solution: treat all social media platforms the way we treat all phone companies: no censorship, no moderators, no one threatening to close your account if you don't stop writing something someone doesn't like.
NUX, there is new Death Battle
That death battle was pretty good. The animation looked great
The 1st amendment stands everywhere.
Except Tim Pool wasn't paid by Russians. The channel that was streaming one of his shows was. Actually look into it before you speak on it
Censorship is actively damaging the english language.
General, correct terms shouldn't be altered to protect someones feelings.
"The Tim Pool is funded by russia" thing is a complete distortion of the case btw. The case is that Tenet Media, an American based right wing media platform, was funded by RT, a Russian media platform, through fake names and shell companies.
Tim Pool's only involvement with Tenet Media is that they licensed his show, The Culture War Podcast, which is independently produced. "Licensing" is when you pay a content owner to show their work on your platform. Think of Netflix or Crunchyroll.
Additionally, the indictment itself claims that Tim Pool and other right wing personalities were "unwitting". That's the exact word they used.
The indictment itself never accused Tim Pool of taking money from Russia to produce fake content. Only that his independent content was licensed under false pretenses. "Tim Pool was funded by Russia" is only true if you twist the truth into a pretzel. It implies he knowingly took money from the Russians to produce content for them, when in reality, an American platform that was secretly funded by Russia paid Tim Pool for the right to show his work on their platform. Saying he's funded by Russia is like saying KyoAni is funded by America, just because Crunchyroll licenses their shows.
Tim Pool is extremely anti-war and anti-american interventionism, including Ukraine. It's a no-brainer that Russia would want to boost his content for their own purposes, even if they had nothing to do with its actual production.
Less people thought the Earth was flat 500 years ago than believe it now, and that honestly scares the hell out of me. An accurate example of scientific progress is 500 years ago most people believed the Earth was the center of the universe.
Do you mean percentage or just number of people? Of course more people will believe it now because there are many times more people today than 500 years ago.
Percentage, the Flat Earth Society is less than 100 years old, and even when the book that ultimately lead to it was published everyone thought the guy was a quack. Most people have at least believed the earth was a sphere since before the founding of Athens. There's plenty of documentation of attempts to calculate its size, with Aristotle getting most of the credit even though he was wildly off.
Day 146 of asking Nux to do a Halo lore dive. November will be over in two weeks. Stay strong.
around the middle of the vid you have a misunderstanding, trump is not replacing them with people who decide what misinsormation is, he simply goes after them and stops the practice of deciding what misinformation is (by any govt organization).

Look if it's a private platform and it has a terms of service. It's a publisher not a platform and it can be sued and shouldn't be protected under Section 230 act. That's literally the law.
