I got it in extra fine and boy howdy it is smooth. Inked it up with Diamine happy holidays.
So grateful that you loaded it with violet ink! ❤
I think it's a perfect match!
Thanks for the informative content Dave. Brought to us with smooth flow and delivery; I enjoyed watching this video.
I love mine as it was delivered yesterday! It’s so beautiful in person! I heard from Twsbi that it’s limited edition for now...
Gorgeous! Great review! Love that ink in the pen. Waiting for my pen to arrive. Might return here to figure out how to fill my first VAC700R!
Really well done review, this video is so helpful. I've been debating whether or not I want to make this my first fountain pen.
This pen is selling like hot cakes and it's kinda limited, they just restocked after 6 months. If you are still debating it, may want to decide soon because they may go out of stock again! I just ordered one a couple of days ago.
My first vac pen and I love it! Thanks for review!
I ordered it! Another Stub. I love TWSBI stubs. I have a Fine Vac 700 R nib unit, but I’ve never installed it. There’s just something beautiful about writing big and bold and not worrying about running out of ink with these pens.
Another great review, Dave! This one caught my interest. I have a soft spot for vaccuum fillers 😅
Yaaay first video on this new pen! Looks super cool with that ink combo, I’ll have to pick up some Diamine Violet. Other contenders...turquoise or orange. Bought one this morning, stock was mostly sold out in a few hours on Goulet pens. Looking forward to more 700R releases from Twsbi. Thanks for the review.
Edit: Just got mine in the mail. Wow. Awesome new release. It looks much more balanced now that the clip matches better and it’s fully clear. My 3 year 700R is still just as great as the day I got it so I’m expecting the same with this one. The anti scratch coating on the plastic has held up well so it will be interesting to see if the iridescent coating on the new one also helps with the chrome as well.
InstaBlaster.
It's So beautiful. It's now out of stock everywhere. I wanted to buy it. Thank you for this amazing review.
It should be back in stock soon, I think TWSBI have said March.
Aww that's great then. Thanks a lot
Very nice, this is on my list also.💜
Excellent! And, great choice of ink, too! Might have to add one of these to my TWSBI arsenal! 🤔
It was a tough choice, I wanted to use Herbin Myosotis but knew I wouldn't get the #6 nib into the bottle. Diamine Lavender was a close second but I have another pen inked up with that so I decided to use Diamine Violet instead which is close to Lavender.
@@PenultimateDave Well, it took me almost two years since you posted this video, but I finally puled the trigger on one of these! I ordered it with a (F) nib and it's arriving Monday, the 29th!
Excellent review - just found your site - well done 👍
Thank you very much!
I don't like iridiscent coloured scheme in stuff but I must admint looks gorgeous in that fountain pen..
Many folks think the 1.1mm stub is the Way To Go with TWSBIs, so I'm surprised you didn't get one of the Irises with that nib (I have just two TWSBI, and that's the nib I ordered). It's a winner, for my money.
Strangely I have a 1.1mm stub in a TWSBI Mini AL and the 1.5mm stubs in all of my TWSBI Diamond 580AL's, so I decided I would look at something that wasn't a stub nib.
Fair warning my friend, jealousy has raised its ugly head 😉. Great review!
Keep in mind, just after filling the feed will be considerably more wet than after a couple of pages/
That Iris looks unique to me... that may be the pen I'm considering checking out...
One question:
Have you ever spilt a bottle of ink in your lifetime? Be honest... I never had an inky accident on my own whilst storing inks safely.
Yes I"ve spilt a couple of bottles and a couple of smaller Pen Fillers/Traveling Inkwells. The carpet where I video and work is very dark so I'm actually lucky that it covers up any ink stains quite well! I keep wanting to change to a lighter carpet but I think I would have to continuously change it after spilling ink.
It says limited edition on the twsbi website so sadly this will go away but hot damn its beautiful I personally think since its so beautiful they should keep it around cant wait to get mine in the mail
Yes I believe now it's going to be limited in production run, so once it's gone it's gone.
Good review. Pukka fountain pen
How does it compare to the TWSBI Diamond 580 in terms of length and weight?
It's a little bit longer and has a larger #6 size nib where the 580 has a #5 or 5.5 nib.
so is the only difference between the iris and the regular 700r aesthetics? functionally still exactly the same?
Yes, everything else is the same, it's just the rainbow coloured trim and the colouration on the tip of the nib.
How many times to fill up the entire barrel?
To max I'd say twice.
Can a vac 700 R be filled with a syringe? That’s my
preferred way of filling fountain pens?
No, it would result in a messy filling, although you can use the TWSBI Vac ink bottle filler.
That would defeat the purpose of the VAC system....
I’ve filled my Vac 700 R with a syringe without any issues. It might “defeat the purpose” of the vacuum filling mechanism, but the pen still writes as intended, regardless of how you fill it. 🙂
aaaaaaaaa i want one so bad!
wait a minute..the weight of the pen uninked with cap is 34.67gms, the cap is 12.96gms, and the pen body is 16.18gms..where did the missing 5.56 gms go?
Great review! I hate my twsbi vac 700 and mini pens. Hate the fiddliness of the filling system and both of mine are stubs and they are both hard starters that dry out quickly. The 700 is also almost too heavy for me. I have over 10 other twsbis that I love and have no issues with but these two vacs are too high maintenance and do not write very reliably at all. This pen is lovely but it won’t be going into my collection:)
Sorry to hear your Vac 700's are hard starters. I've only had medium and broad nibs on these, and they write very well. I have stubs on my 580's but not seen any issues with them, even if I leave them for 6 months inked up they start as soon as I uncap them. What ink are you using in them? I'm wondering if that might be part of the problem?
One thing maybe if it's just those two Vac 700's is to flush them out with soapy water, it's possible there might be some grease stuck in the feed channels and that's causing some problems. I do know with the Vac 700's I tend to have to unscrew the knob otherwise they can stop writing or have some issues getting started. I've only ever had issues with some very high sheening inks like Cult Pens Robert.
@@PenultimateDave those are great suggestions;) I’ll give those a try. Diamine inks in both. Presidential Blue in one and some kind of red in the other.
@@sistergoldenhair0727 Yeah you have to have the blind cap unscrewed to write for extended periods, otherwise it blocks flow to the feed. It’s there to help with pressure changes. More of a serious pen for the traveling writer. But I’m surprised yours don’t work well. My Vac is one of my favorite pens. Consider talking to Twsbi too, their customer service is great
Okay... since this gorgeous pen seems to be sold out everywhere, and because the price is more than I should spend anyway, it seems logical that you just need to mail me yours. 🖋📦 📫 😀
Haha nice try! There's at least two retailers I know that still has stock.
Try twsbi.com... that’s where I ordered mine yesterday!
I'd buy it if I was more willing to spend $80 on a single pen
I just absolutely hate these pen companies that make every pen (I am exaggerating a little) a limited edition when they know people will want them. After the first rush of buyers, the pens are gone. That does not seem fair to others who may want one. Why do they do it? To frustrate people? For the money? Ugh!!!!
That and the fact that people with means to buy more than one cut the chances of others to get one, I understand it's not on purpose in most cases but still a bummer -_-
i love how it is a vacuum, but i dont like how it wouldnt last a long while. i dont know how i would be able to really nail it down but i just look at it and think "those gaskets are going to need replaced, and that metal rod will corrode if you dont clean it as often due to it's exposure to water-based inks. temperature changes of that plastic might crack and break as it expands and contracts in a vacuum tube." these are my thoughts and my concerns about the pen. i see the price and i just cant see spending that much on a vac pen to only have it for a few years in fear of it breaking! i really love your color choice for the ink though in the pen!
Many manufacturers will use metals that are non corrosive for the vac rods, e.g. Visconti will use Titanium. The o-rings can potentially wear out over time but it would take a long period of time to wear out.
@@PenultimateDave maybe i just get paranoid about spending over 60 bucks on a pen thinking it would be like.. heirloom quality or something like that. im still learning :)
