This how to video is about Woodturning an Economy Bowl From Mahogany wood. I show you how to turn a single plank of mahogany into an oversized handmade bowl. This diy wood turning project can be finished in a weekend and requires only a few tools to complete. You will need one small plank of mahogany and a sound wood glue to complete the project in addition to a wood lathe and band saw. I use a jet 1440 Wood Lathe for all of my projects.

A neat little trick when jointing. Mark both of your preferred faces, joint one with the mark to the fence, the other away from the fence, that way cancels out any slight anomaly in your fence.

Very nice work. I like how you turned the lathe to make the larger bowl work. I do a lot of segmented turning. I definitely will give this method a try.

What angle did you cut your rings at on the band saw? In a similar process on the scroll saw you use a formula to calculate the angle based upon the thickness of your stick, how wide you want each ring to be, etc. Cutting them at the correct angle results in the stacking with smooth edges.

Love that you drive a 90s yota pickup. I used to have a 93 double cab. Wish I still had that thing...I’m sure it’s still out there running!

Allen Oxendine what do you mean stand? Does the lathe sit on like a bench top? Post some pictures when your done. I’ve been using the lathe for 5 months now and it’s been a blast, I’m really happy I bought one to

Stelios The Greek sorry, I'm building a table to hold my lathe. 4x4 legs should be heavy enough hope. 2x11s for top

Allen Oxendine sounds like you got it covers. I’ve got a video making a kids bench and I used 4x4’s and constructions grade lumber. Check it out and maybe you can use that as a plan to make it adult size.

Good vid. I like your “gitter-done” approach to the glue up. Others spend a lot of time building and using clamping jugs and their blanks don’t run any more smooth and balanced than yours did. Me likee! 😎👍
