The Quartzatite tool, at 26:00 is amazing! I believe that you are holding humanities oldest worked tool. This stone has a Hardness of 9 on the MOH Scale, & appears to be Curved to be used as a spoon or scoop. Quartzatite is un-knappable, & is a mystery as to how Ancient man carved into it?
I think you hit a typo--it's 28:00. Quartzite is made of nearly pure quartz. Quartz has a Moh's hardness of 7 (not 9). I don't know about knappability (is that a word?), but the archaeologist in this video says it is good for knapping.
Yes, actually 29:00. Yes, this looks like a variety of Quartz that is extremely, more durable, & much, much harder then Quartzite, thus I called it Quarzatite. While attempting to Crack open a roundish piece of it; [I hit it at least 40 times, (with a hardened steel hammer), before I managed to chip off a small sliver of it. Any Quartz or Quartzite would have shattered to bits. Also I have found several hand tools, knives, or cutting blades that fit perfectly into your hand. Both right handed & left handed cutters, & even a hooked blade, & Curved inner blade work; like this Spoon.
There are several important sites in Scotland with cup and ring marks, which makes you wonder if they have some kind of universal meaning for humans.
Great..very informative
Thank you! We're glad you enjoyed it.
