I've been trying to write an appropriate comment for the past 15 minutes now. I just can't do it, I'm literally speechless. I'm a huge huge fan of Jon's music and I just gotta say that I think this is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. They way this puts Passionflower in a new perspective for me and how it totally does the original composition justice. I need to keep myself from babbling really, ugh, just.... I don't know how to say this but... this is so fucking awesome man.
You know, usually I frown upon auto tune... But the ever-so-slightness of auto tuning used in this was so tastefully done.... +2 thumbs for quality, creativity, and absolute brilliance. 10/10 will share!
I thought that too at first, I'm not fond of auto-tune at all due to contemporary music bastardising the tool and getting vocally 'lazy'/not being able to sing in key. It's very clear that this dude can sing and in the context of this song the auto-tune was used stylistically and only for a moment, not because he couldn't hold a note (again, it's evident he has a massive vocal range and dynamic) but just to give some flair to that particular section. On that note, I'll allow it. Great job Sam!
acapellascience Hey! It’s so cool to see all of the Awesome A Cappella people I am subscribed to encourage each other! You are both amazing and the best of luck to you both!
Hey everyone! thank you so much for all your responses, this is a quick announcement to say that my Hymn album will be released as Digital (7th July 2015) Physical (14th July 2015) It's not long now!!!
+Sam Robson Season's greetings! Your performance of Passionflower is sublime. I'm curious how my other Jon Gomm favorite »Telepathy« would sound if you'd arrange it? Just some wishful thinking. :-) Keep being awesome!
Can't stop listening to the "super, super slow motion" bit. Brilliantly done fella. Faithful to the original, but so very unique at the same time. LUVVIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am speechless...and blinking back the ache behind my eyes. I have always admired Jeff Buckley for his talents, however Jon Gomm has immediately surpassed him...a million times over. He has stirred my soul, quickened my pulse, and chocked my heart! The Universe thanks you, Jon, for your existense! Rest easy, my friend!
I don't think anyone will ever truly be able to appreciate the amount of effort, time, patient, and passion that must've gone into this. This was wicked, dude.
Your stuff is so dense, I can never listen to a piece just once in a sitting. I am compelled to listen through three or four times. And it gets more satisfying each time. Like a good piece of chamber music.
Wow. Where has this been in my life for 8 years. To take an Exceptional peice of Music and only add to it. Thats an enormous achievement. Mind blowing.
I’ve not listened to Passionflower for a long time but something let me come to UA-cam to hear it. And I remember this a cappella ver. Still shining. This will never fade.
How come I never came across this video??? Passion flower is a piece of art I discovered years ago, I fell in love with Jon Gomm and his style, probably at the same time I discovered you Sam... and now I found this... goodness... I don't know how many times I will listen to this one...
At 1:42 That "oooh pah" was frickin' perfect! It had perfect timing, and it made me shiver. Dude, you've got Acapella skills. You alone are enough to defeat Pentatonix. :P
From the first time I heard this five years ago to now, this brings forth such emotion for me. This song came into my life during some really dark times. You turned it into something so far more beautiful. Thank you sir.
This is so well arranged, must have taken hours. I love the orignial and I've a big fan of Jon Gomm so I was a bit sceptical prior to clicking play but this was pretty damn awesome! Great work Sam.
First time I saw Jon was February, 2015 and I thought Passionflower was, live, utterly mindblowing. Now, a year later, I find this. Astounding and sensitive. Thanks.
Sam, this is truly exceptional! The chords are ethereal, the arrangement is masterful, and really enjoy the inclusion of "percussion", which adds a lot of interest; just so beautiful! Also love the rare direct eye contact for much of the melody line, while still enjoying the full impact of your facial/body language on the other panels. Going to black screen then popping back in, and flashing light transitioning to RED (the passionflower blooms!), was a fantastic idea. This is probably your best work to date! And I'm definitely going to check out Jon Gomm, too! Thanks again for sharing your gift, Sam - God bless you!
This song is so amazing, I first heard it by the man himself when I was going through the hardest times in my life. I was alone, fully immersed in addiction and suicidal. I've listened to this arrangement so many times now. Thank you.
Sam, I must tell you that I am a new subscriber, just joined tonight, and Passionflower was the first song of yours that I listened to ..... the only thing I can say is that I felt myself break apart and come back together in a different way, something inside was changed. I have never heard anything like it before, you changed something deep inside me. Thank you! I will be listening to all your works as I can, please keep doing what you do, I'm sure that I am not the only one being touched by your special brand of music/arranging/performance!
I have to listen to this every single day otherwise I get withdrawal symptoms! The first minute is a mindblow for me! The tone makes the back of my head tingle - beautiful! xx
im not sure how i did this but when i began to play this video the jon gomm video started at the same time.... It felt like heaven! the two blending together gave me chills! both alone are Amazing too!
Wow! This is incredible. I saw Jon Gomm play this live a few years ago and even had the pleasure of meeting him after the gig. His performance gave me goosebumps. I have heard a few versions of Passionflower since then but this takes the cake. Sublime arrangement expertly realised. And yes, am covered in goosebumps! Love it!
Sam for the high harmonies that are out of your range I would invest in getting Melodyne. You can alter the pitch and the formant so it will sound natural. This is a great arrangement and please, by all means, do not take my note as criticism. This is fantastically produced. It is just that with the highs they get sounding a little electronic and loose depth especially because of the compressed UA-cam format. I would also make sure you use a good dither on your bounce to help with the quality of the product when it gets compressed.
Sam Robson However personally i perfer the human imperfections in ones voice :) brings out the soul in your voice :) I think hate is a pretty big word but lets say im not a huge fan of autotune in a vocal (atleast the non extreme notes) :) Your music is extremely inspiring for me lets state that fact :) but hearing the kind of electronic notes in between was a little less pleasant to the ear. But anyhow this video still made some magic! Keep it going brother!
I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this but I think I've now listened to your version even more than the original. The arrangement is incredible, it's has such a sweeping sound, and it's one of the most beautiful things I've heard. Thank you for making this.
astropapi1 He's not using autotune throughout (he obviously doesn't need it), he only uses it a couple times for effect. It's not correcting anything, he's using it to deliberately manipulate the track to get a sound you couldn't get otherwise. It sounds good, so I don't get why anyone has a problem with it.
Michael Kasif You don't like it because you associate it with bad pop music, or you don't like it because it sounds bad? Two different things, but people seem to confuse one with the other... to each their own, but it sounds fine to my ears
I discovered this song just over a year ago, the same day that my Nana died...since then I have always had an emotional connection to this song, but your version moved me a new way. You stayed true to the original but added enough of your own style that it became something new, something more beautiful than what it was. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world. God bless.
How did I just see this now?! Once again Sam....thank you for sharing your gift with me. Man, this is beautiful. Jon Gomm I'm sure is humbled. I'm praying for the 48 thumbs downs.
sometimes I think youtube was invented just to bring your talent and love of great music to all of us...I am so grateful to have found your work on here. You are a blessing in so many ways, with or without hair. Best always.
Unfortunately, a whopping amount of auto tune seems to be the standard form of practice nowadays with any vocal editing. You just have to hear Taylor Swift live to get an easy impression of it.
Sounds really amazing! The only one thing i disliked was that very strong and audible autotune on the lead vocal... i think it makes the song less magical
Darko Dropulja Are you insinuating that a tool is not an instrument? He used it to modify the flat tones in his voice. If it were truly A-capella, he would not have used anything but his own voice.
Huge fan of Jon. Just now finding this and can say without a doubt that it was absolutely beautiful my man. You know those moments where you choke up and have to laugh because of what music can do to and pull from your soul? That's what this did. Well done.
I love Jon Gomm's music, and this song is I think my total favorite out of all, and Sam, you have a beautiful voice, and great range from soprano to bass, I absolutely LOVED your arrangement and this video...wow is all I can say, you have great talent! Thank you for sharing and showing us.
OK. Wow. Just wow. So I've only just really found out about Jon Gomm, and now I come across this. I'm just completely blown away. Awesome stuff. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Long time Gomm listener, and seeing some of the covers other his music were impressive, but expected. Your cover, on the other hand is not only impressive, it is absolutely amazing. Your voice and control are very well put together with this piece. As another person noted, gave me shivers...well done, and thank-you!
My favourite cover arrangement of yours Sam. I love the little details throughout the song that make it enjoyable every time I listen to it. Your version of this song is tied to the memory of my daughter being born and it almost makes me cry. Your journey through your arrangements and the evolution of your music has been amazing to watch and I'm proud to be apart of your fan group. From one muso to another, I'm truly grateful for your content 😊
MAAAAAN this piece is AMAZING, so well made that you can jam along with it, singing or playing an instrument it blends beautifully, been practicing my voice every day with this piece for the past two weeks and you'll be amazed of the progress you get just by practicing it, amazing job Sam.
I can listen to this on repeat for hours. It is PHENOMENAL. The song is already a fantastic song, but you turned it into genius. Your chord structure is so full and nuanced, and your transitions are hauntingly beautiful. I still get chills .every. time after dozens of plays at 2:54 and 4:21. Just amazing. Thanks for sharing your gift!
I'm used to going to sleep to Jon Gomm's original every night. It's been my favorite song since I first heard it. You've done it so much justice in a way I didn't think was ever possible. Thank you.
Absolutely beautiful. I had the privilege of discovering Jon Gomm for the first time just 3 days ago, super blown away by him of course, right after that I found this video. Perfect tribute. I literally can't stop listening to this.
To anyone who is "upset" about this artist's use of auto-tune in a few parts of this arrangement, think about this: Technically, any digital copy of a song (anything you listen to on UA-cam or digital media) is just a RECORDING or representation of analog sound. So if you want to question the authenticity of this work, you're forgetting that ANY digital media is by its very nature not the ACTUAL sound that the artist was making. So, Sam using auto-tune to influence his musical production is just another form digital augmentation; similar to any amount of audio level adjustment (or even data compression) that he may have used in creating this piece. Long story short: This is a great recording and demonstration of [obviously] amazing talent. Stop picking at erroneous details and just enjoy the music!
This truly is music of the spheres! We think only Jesus, Buddha, Mohammad and few ancient others walked among us with the message. Sam Robson, you are their musical incarnation!
This is absolutely beautiful Sam. Very good work bud
Thanks Peter!!!
Some of your most passionate artistic work yet!
still waiting for that collab....
You both should collaborate!
A collab with a hymn! Please, please!
Thank you everyone for your feedback!
Hey sam, get ahold of me sometime.. my info is on my website. www.peterhollens.com - would be fun to speak.

A collab between you two would be amazing. Just saying :D
Oh yes please, a collab, it would be so beautiful !
I would love to see you guys do a collaborative video!
Sam please do a collab with Peter! You are both so talented!

Glorious arrangement of glorious music plus ASMR feeling)
Yup.
Well fucking said. Jesus this rules.
100% the same! Discovered this too late.
You know, usually I frown upon auto tune... But the ever-so-slightness of auto tuning used in this was so tastefully done....
+2 thumbs for quality, creativity, and absolute brilliance.
10/10 will share!
I'm so glad you said that!
Auto tune only works well if you already can sing. Lol that's why this is so good
Richard Doe wrong

ua-cam.com/video/05hTQC1CZko/v-deo.html check this out, it's on the topic of auto tune i think you might find it interesting
This is fully ridiculous (in the best kind of way).
Incredibly arranged with the harmonies and great mix too!
I never get tired of revisiting this. A real masterpiece for sure
I just watched the first 25 seconds and it's already the most beautiful thing ever.
I can't stress enough how amazing it is. Seriously, this is perfect.
Oh man, that was glorious.

OHMYFG!!!!!!! THAT VOICE OF YOURS ITES JUST FANTASTIC M8!! keep up the good work you really deserve to be known all over the World!
When I stumbled across Jon Gomm playing this song, I was floored. I'm equally floored by your rendition, too. Pure genius.
WOW this feels like the sunshine described in the song! And that plant growing, reaching for light....amazing!
I don't think anyone will ever truly be able to appreciate the amount of effort, time, patient, and passion that must've gone into this.
This was wicked, dude.
Fantastic. I didn't think this song could get any more beautiful, but you've done it justice
Your stuff is so dense, I can never listen to a piece just once in a sitting. I am compelled to listen through three or four times. And it gets more satisfying each time. Like a good piece of chamber music.

Best voice on UA-cam, right here.
I’ve not listened to Passionflower for a long time but something let me come to UA-cam to hear it. And I remember this a cappella ver. Still shining. This will never fade.
this was absolutely unreal. You added such a unique and elegant spin to an already beautiful song. Brilliantly done

1:13 Same shiver I get from the original.
GlenBullivantGuitar Thanks, I know exactly what you mean :)
GlenBullivantGuitar Shivers here too!
Sam Robson Has Jon Gomm seen this
This is a very, very, very, very challenging song! And I wasn't ready for you to bring it like that! I salute you!
My album is now available for pre order!
Titled "Hymns, Sam Robson" you can find it on Amazon, Itunes and all other
music retail sites.
I was going to say "simply amazing" but realized this tune and arrangement are actually "complicatedly amazing." Bravo again, Sam.
The algorithm has blessed me, yet again
This is the most beautiful thing I've come across on UA-cam since a long time. I bow down to you sir :D
Jon blows everyone's minds. This piece is unbelievably good and you managed to enrich it even more! Great job.
I hope Jon sees and likes this.
I could spend the rest of my life listening to this!!!!!

This is still among the most beautiful things I've ever heard...
absolutely astonishing. Properly speechless. xx
Great…in fact it's super great!
im not sure how i did this but when i began to play this video the jon gomm video started at the same time.... It felt like heaven! the two blending together gave me chills! both alone are Amazing too!
A little bit of autotune or not, I think this video is amazing, and I have respect for how much work you put into it. You did a great job on it!
Wow! This is incredible. I saw Jon Gomm play this live a few years ago and even had the pleasure of meeting him after the gig. His performance gave me goosebumps. Ha ha you're the first person to correctly identify that I don't use melodyne :) Probably the weirdest compliment I can offer you!
Sam Robson However personally i perfer the human imperfections in ones voice :) brings out the soul in your voice :)
I think hate is a pretty big word but lets say im not a huge fan of autotune in a vocal (atleast the non extreme notes) :)
Your music is extremely inspiring for me lets state that fact :) but hearing the kind of electronic notes in between was a little less pleasant to the ear. But anyhow this video still made some magic! Keep it going brother!
absolutely elegant your comment
Sam Robson congratulations you're 10+
Sam Robson I think you are brilliant.....
Playlisted, squire. Great job. Brought tears to the composer's eyes, he said.
0:32 - 0:51... Holy fucking eargasm.
I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this but I think I've now listened to your version even more than the original. The arrangement is incredible, it's has such a sweeping sound, and it's one of the most beautiful things I've heard. Thank you for making this.
Great job dude! I'm just curious about that part at 1:56 that you say ''a million...''. Is that auto-tuned?
That autotuned bit was like a stab to the back.
Y u do dis, sam.
astropapi1 He's not using autotune throughout (he obviously doesn't need it), he only uses it a couple times for effect. It's not correcting anything, he's using it to deliberately manipulate the track to get a sound you couldn't get otherwise. It sounds good, so I don't get why anyone has a problem with it.
***** Thanks Brigham
***** It doesn't sound good to me, It reminds me of bad pop music and makes it sound less natural
God bless.
I recognize God's handiwork, and I see it through you, as plain as day! Very well done Sam!
Wow, I would assume that any cover of this song would be a "suicide mission", but daym Sam, You nailed it.
nailed it!
I’m only one minute in and I’m already crying
Amazing!!!
How did I just see this now?! Once again Sam....thank you for sharing your gift with me. Man, this is beautiful. Jon Gomm I'm sure is humbled. I'm praying for the 48 thumbs downs.
*This is the only guy that gives me hope that Jacob Collier is probably a human being if Sam can do this..*
Collier didnt autotune
My first time seeing this. I remember being captivated by this song when i was in high school. I had a friend show this to me.
This was MARVELOUS!
Oh my fucking god! You have left me speechless :0
sometimes I think youtube was invented just to bring your talent and love of great music to all of us...I am so grateful to have found your work on here. You are a blessing in so many ways, with or without hair. Best always.
Beautiful, a smart use of autotune ( and yes i hate autotune usually).
The opening is as serene as a summer sunrise.
Can you try a Boys II Men song please..... maybe Water runs dry
I thought the same thing lol
Sweet jesus. This is insane. The production is so full and perfect.
Why the auto tune though? Just sing without it
Unfortunately, a whopping amount of auto tune seems to be the standard form of practice nowadays with any vocal editing. You just have to hear Taylor Swift live to get an easy impression of it.
Yep. Pretty standard nowadays. You probably wouldn't enjoy it as much without autotune, anyway.
+Jon Nieve no, I definitely would. I'd rather it be honest and out of tune than so inorganic and fake.
It's only used in a few parts for the effect.
Why don't you trying recording this without auto tune and get back to us, yeah?
THIS IS........HMMMMM.......PHANTASMAGORICALLY PHENOMENALLLLLLL!!!! I think I cried somewhere!!!!
Sounds really amazing! The only one thing i disliked was that very strong and audible autotune on the lead vocal... i think it makes the song less magical
A gift to the world. It takes this amount of beauty to communicate understanding of the other worldly creative genius that is jon.
That auto-tune though
Wow. If you're going to claim something is an acapella arrangement, you realize that auto-tune is a sort of instrument right?
+Karkenou and where is your acapella?
Auto tune is not an instrument
Darko Dropulja Are you insinuating that a tool is not an instrument?
He used it to modify the flat tones in his voice. If it were truly A-capella, he would not have used anything but his own voice.
its not an instrument. its a tool. he also uses an octaver
Darko Dropulja Then it is not truly a capella.
Huge fan of Jon. Just now finding this and can say without a doubt that it was absolutely beautiful my man. You know those moments where you choke up and have to laugh because of what music can do to and pull from your soul? That's what this did. Well done.
WOW! Just... WOW! You TRULY did this piece JUSTICE Sam! INCREDIBLE!!!

Passionflower is groundbreaking from Jon gomm and he continually makes beautiful music and represent the best of humility and humanity
This just blew my mind. An already incredible song by a very talented man.
This is truly impressive.
Listened to both -- first Jon, then Sam -- fabulous; will likely be my greatest joy all day. Thanks so much, and God bless.

😱 dude best singer ever and huge range I've never heard anyone with a larger range than this
i discovered jon gomm today and it blew my mind.
but my mind is now blown into pieces, fascinating and amazing piece!
I'm used to going to sleep to Jon Gomm's original every night. It's been my favorite song since I first heard it. You've done it so much justice in a way I didn't think was ever possible. Thank you.
Mind was blown when I listened to the original, and then you did it all over again just now! Amazing...
This is just mind blowing! You have made Jon Gomm proud! :)
Absolutely beautiful. I had the privilege of discovering Jon Gomm for the first time just 3 days ago, super blown away by him of course, right after that I found this video. Perfect tribute. I literally can't stop listening to this.
I am speechless. This cover has blown me away.
This is one of the most beautiful think what I have heard. The song gives me power. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

Nailed it! Hee hee. Great workaround for those of us who haven't mastered 'god mode' on guitar yet !
