I own zero tv/movie dvd's...never bought any. What I DID used to own were Disney vhs tapes that my dear daughter (now 40) watched repeatedly. And music cd's And books. The vhs tapes went years ago... left them with my folks for all the grands to watch after dear daughter outgrew them, then decluttered when they died I and cleared their home. My music cd's were given away to friends; now I listen to streaming services and regular radio. My books 💔! I'd pared them way down in my early 60's, and kept only my most prized Jane Austen and Shakespeare collections, and Bibles/Bible study books. Sadly, even with reading glasses the Jane Austen and Shakespeare fine-print were beyond my 68 year old eyes and were donated. I cried. Still have the Bibles/study books. I use an eReader and audio novels and rarely miss my paper books...NEVER miss the amount of space they took. I continue to declutter and am mindful of what I bring into my home. I find myself letting go of things I once could not...I just wait until my heart is ready.

Hi Diane, I'm 60. My mum died 7 years ago & like you, it really helped me focus on my own stuff. I kept very little that she had, mainly photos, the odd bit of jewellery etc. Sold furniture & gave stuff away. I've been following you for years now & take pics of what I declutter. I cannot believe the stuff I have decluttered! Crazy! And I miss none of it! Sending lots of love. X
About 10 years ago, put all the videos out on the curbside and they were gone within hours. Don't think that would work now. We rewatched our dvd collection. If it hadn't caught our attention within the first 20 min, it's out. Some of them we watched until the end and while we enjoyed them, we know we wouldn't watch them again in what remains of our lifespan. Out they went. Some cherished ones, we have kept. Was a nice winter project.
I love my DVDs and I've thrown away all the cases and put the discs in a binder. I've cut the picture big enough to see the title and put it underneath the discs. It made a big difference in clutter and I can flip the pages of my favourite DVDs that I still watch. :)
@@DianeinDenmark My daughter does live streaming and we can't use internet when she does it. I have DVDs for holidays as well. I love watching them every year. I have my computer (which plays DVDs) in the kitchen, so I can watch while cooking and doing dishes. :)
I took all my DVDs out of their covers and put them in wallets in genres, it takes up minimal space but I still have all my favourites. I decluttered all the random movies.
Hey Diane, me & my partner have got our dvd collection down to 1 box now. We're only keeping films/series that are difficult to find or that we love so much we can't let them go 🤪
Harrryy POTTER !!!! Hahaha. I would keep only the original Die Hard. I think decluttering (especially at that speed) makes us happy as we are in total control. Pat on the back Diane, thst was great!
The thing about Christmas movies ( showing here now Sept' to January!) is that they all look cheerful with the decor and trees and have happy endings. I'm still keeping some DVDs, and will watch them again when I have time as some have sentimental value. I can see a definite touch of "Muzzy" in your enthusiasm for life Diane. :-)
I need to do this again, BUT... we have grandkids every day after school AND we have a motorhome that came with a DVD player/TV which we need to keep stocked for rainy days on the road. YES, we still have some VHS tapes as well as a player to use with them! Those are mostly kids stuff, so they will have to stay for a while yet. Good for you! I'll give a look but have to consult hubby....
You are so correct! I think about my experience clearing out my mum's house, and I declutter some more! The dvds are a tough one - we don't have great tv here in France and we do still watch them. Our dvd player from Canada works on a transformer, so we can watch them, but they won't do anyone any good to donate them. In the meantime, we have decluttered a lot from our storage area in the house, so that's a good start. You did an amazing job with your dvds today! Go you!
No, don’t do it. When you buy them online online, you don’t actually own the rights to watch it. The platform can take the movie away just because they don’t have the right to play it.
Well done! I let go of all my DVDs when I subscribed to Acorn British Streaming service. Except I kept DVDs of traditional Irish music that are not available any other way.
👋🏻 Hello! We have two large cabinets full of VHS, DVD, and blue rays movies. It is quite the collection. My hubby won’t be agreeing to declutter those anytime soon. 🤣😂😁

If your kids are grown and flown, perhaps the dvd's can be rehomed with them? One of my friends (70s)has started requiring her (40's) children to take home things they insist can't be gotten rid of...she gives them a time-frame to come get them before she donates them.

I would definitely keep your absolute favourite movies on DVD. It’s so awful when you want to watch one of your absolute favourites and can’t find it on a streaming service. Also, I will not rent anything off Amazon Prime (who have bought up most of the movies in existence). Amazon is swiftly developing a monopoly that is terrifying. It’s like the old “company store” on an international scale. I boycott every Amazon-owned entity.
Diane, loved watching those videos. Just parted with all my cross stitch floss, except for a few I need to finish a long overdue project. If it doesn’t get completed this winter, it goes too! Loved sharing it with my daughter who designs her own projects❤️
I've never been one for watching the same movies over and over. All of our DVDs are my hubby's. He only keeps one shelf behind a cupboard door so they don't bother me.
❤ We like a lot of the same movies! I only have a couple of DVDs now - The Princess Bride and Goonies. I just keep them on my bookshelf with my paperbacks. There’s a great book I listened to as an audiobook by Cary Elwes called As You Wish about making The Princess Bride. They included a lot of memories from the other actors told in their own voices, so much fun! Especially Billy Crystal and Carol Kane, such distinctive voices and such funny people.
I got rid of all of our DVDs at the beginning of the year - we didn’t have anything to play them on and most of the shows are available via the internet. Having a much harder time getting rid of books. I’ve been re-reading old books and most fall apart as I read them. I should have donated the years ago.
Isn't it interesting when we're suddenly able to let go of whole, big collections of things that we used to really enjoy and that we've kept again and again when decluttering? I've had categories like that, too. It's almost as if the time's just right all of a sudden. Well done with those DVD:s, and I'm glad you kept your mom's favourite. Love from Sweden! (ps. My husband and I love Father Brown! We’re catching up on the older seasons as they replay on tv but our library has so many good series to watch, too. We also have quite a few VHS tapes still, although we can’t watch them, and a large selection of dvds. It’s so nice that you are keeping the movie that your mum loved. I really need to do this! I have a stack of dvds I don't really watch anymore (except for Muppet Christmas Carol!), but local charity shops don't really take them and it feels wrong to just throw them out. Today tho, i did a proper rainy day job, cleaned the silver! Mostly jewellery I wasn't wearing because it was tarnished, all sparkling clean now!
Such progress you’ve made Diane! I have a few favourite DVD’s that I like to watch and will keep them as long as I have a DVD player . I find it difficult to get rid of plants. I enjoy caring for them and propagating them but sometimes it gets overwhelming.
I recently gave away all my DVDs. I watch more of Netflix, Prime and other platforms… I did a huge declutter of my books too. I’m more in a digital era now 😅
Oh my! Love Thouroughly Modern Millie! Fifth Element (hilarious), Father Brown, Transporter, Avengers, most of the comedians, and of course Train to Busan. Have you watched Juon? If you like creepy scary, it's a must. The only scary movie that truly gave the the heeby-jeebies for weeks. Japanese and Korean scary movies are my faves. Another one I liked was Shutter. About a newlywed couple. He's a photographer. So good. How about the comedy series Red Dwarf. That was a family favorite. Love you and your channel. I hope you get your 100K soon. I'm decluttering my garden while listening. All the intertwined vines: grapes, blackberries, tomatoes, and bougainvillea. At last it's cool enough in the morning (California) to go outside and tackle this. ❤
Awesome job, Diana!! I use my library all the time. If they don't have something, they can usually get it for me elsewhere. My mom's been gone for now 5 years 😢 I still have some stuff I'm going through. It does take time. Somethings I just can't part with, and that's okay. I revisit that stuff often. I got rid of my dvds before we moved and I kept a few of the empty plastic boxes because they are the right size for storing jewellery that I make. I don’t have anything to play them on anyway. I loved Bill Bailey when I saw him a few years ago in Sheffield with my Danish friend. I was crying with laughing. It was a long time ago and we still reminisce about it. I enjoy the Father Brown and Montalbano and Father Brown is often on daytime tv in the UK. I’ve never seen any Harry Potter but our granddaughter saves her pocket money so she came go in the shop at Kings Cross when they come from France to visit in the summer. I have listened to some of the Hitchhikers Guide as audio books. You are doing so well and always inspiring. It’s definitely not the stuff but the people and the memories x
I keep all my DVDS in one Ikea Kvarnvik (sp.?) box. I threw out the DVD plastic cases, slipped out their paper inserts and put them along with the DVDS in plastic envelopes which I keep inside the IKEA box. All nice and tidy.
OMG I love Montelbano.... I haven't met anyone except me , that watched it.... and Young Montelbano too.... Loved that it was in Italian and not overdubbed ( sadly I do not speak Italian but get the gist and the humour) ....agree about the clickbait... just press the 'not interested' maybe if enough people did this it would stop. I have never seen any of the die hard series all the way through... every time we pit one on to watch there was an earthquake ( lived in Turkey) Die hard 1= Yalova, 2= Izmir, with a vengeance =Marmaris.... It was a JInx that film! Well done getting that job done.
I am so ready to declutter DVDs and books, but hubby is holding on tight. “Are you getting rid of everything?!” he wants to know. Right after I told him I thought we could let go of most recipe books (some of which I have given to him and he has never used), he gifted me one for my birthday. With a sheepish look, I might add. Rather than getting on the declutter bandwagon, he seems to be maybe threatened by the exodus. Any thoughts on this? Anyone?

I loved the dry humor like the demise of populations due to the emigration of telephone sanitizers. ☎️. In getting rid of DVD-Blu Rays wasn't good when the Internet service went down longer then the power went out. It's ok if you have a power generator. If you buy them on line will cost.
I don’t have DVDs! I had sort of bogged down in decluttering old items, so now I make a weekly list each Sunday, and declutter one listed item each day. It’s not speedy, but it keeps me moving ahead with purpose.
Wow that's amazing how you were able to declutter all those DVDs. My DH is a bit of a "pack rat" he has a difficult time letting go of things. But his mum is also a very tidy hoarder ❤. Have an awesome week ❤
oh my word... This is what we will also have to get down to! We envisage moving into a smaller home/retirement village in the next few years and oh boy, all the downsizing needed! Thank-you for this video because we also have a large collection of DVDs which no-one watches anymore but somehow they are still in this house, tucked away out of sight and out of mind.
I have spent all of 2024 decluttering my home just like you have done since the passing of your dear Mother. I don't have much left as I realized I don't need it and I am now so able to do the flylady routines because the clutter is gone. It is hard to do in the beginning but it changes your whole mindset especially on consumerism. Now watching the terrible natural disaster here in the US. I can see that many will now know what they really need and value in their lives. it is up to the rest of us to help them get back to that place. Supplies and money will be short of the need. Survival is primary, food, water clothing and shelter. Many have lost everything including their livelihoods and family members. It makes me reflect on how I would be handling myself in this situation. TY for showing us all what we are able to do when we deeply reflect and choose a different mindset.
Sometimes it is hard to think about transitions/moving and the fact that we will not need some of the things that we have been holding on to. On the flip side, we can plan for a new life phase and embrace change with some hope and joy. Perspective is important.
I don't have many DVDs but am hesitant to declutter many of the ones I do have. 🤔 it's the what if I want to watch it on a rainy day. 😃 but we had a week of rain and I didn't think to look at them.

I have decluttered videos, dvds, etc. My focus today was on laundry and various house cleaning/organizing jobs.

I recently gave away all my DVDs. I watch more of Netflix, Prime and other platforms… I did a huge declutter of my books too. I’m more in a digital era now 😅

Love Thouroughly Modern Millie! Fifth Element (hilarious), Father Brown, Transporter, Avengers, most of the comedians, and of course Train to Busan. Have you watched Juon? If you like creepy scary, it's a must. The only scary movie that truly gave the the heeby-jeebies for weeks. Japanese and Korean scary movies are my faves. Another one I liked was Shutter. About a newlywed couple. He's a photographer. So good. How about the comedy series Red Dwarf. That was a family favorite.

I'm decluttering my garden while listening. All the intertwined vines: grapes, blackberries, tomatoes, and bougainvillea. At last it's cool enough in the morning (California) to go outside and tackle this. ❤
Awesome job, Diana!! I use my library all the time. If they don't have something, they can usually get it for me elsewhere. My mom's been gone for now 5 years 😢 I still have some stuff I'm going through. It does take time. Somethings I just can't part with, and that's okay. I revisit that stuff often. I got rid of my dvds before we moved and I kept a few of the empty plastic boxes because they are the right size for storing jewellery that I make. I don’t have anything to play them on anyway. I loved Bill Bailey when I saw him a few years ago in Sheffield with my Danish friend. I was crying with laughing. It was a long time ago and we still reminisce about it. I enjoy the Father Brown and Montalbano and Father Brown is often on daytime tv in the UK. I’ve never seen any Harry Potter but our granddaughter saves her pocket money so she came go in the shop at Kings Cross when they come from France to visit in the summer. I have listened to some of the Hitchhikers Guide as audio books. You are doing so well and always inspiring. It’s definitely not the stuff but the people and the memories x
I keep all my DVDS in one Ikea Kvarnvik (sp.?)
box. I threw out the DVD plastic cases, slipped out their paper inserts and put them along with the DVDS in plastic envelopes which I keep inside the IKEA box. All nice and tidy.
My husband digitised all our DVDs and we sent them all to the Charity shop.
OMG I love Montelbano.... I haven't met anyone except me , that watched it.... and Young Montelbano too.... Loved that it was in Italian and not overdubbed ( sadly I do not speak Italian but get the gist and the humour) ....agree about the clickbait... just press the 'not interested' maybe if enough people did this it would stop. I have never seen any of the die hard series all the way through... every time we pit one on to watch there was an earthquake ( lived in Turkey) Die hard 1= Yalova, 2= Izmir, with a vengeance =Marmaris.... It was a JInx that film! Well done getting that job done.
I am so ready to declutter DVDs and books, but hubby is holding on tight. “Are you getting rid of everything?!” he wants to know. Right after I told him I thought we could let go of most recipe books (some of which I have given to him and he has never used), he gifted me one for my birthday. With a sheepish look, I might add. Rather than getting on the declutter bandwagon, he seems to be maybe threatened by the exodus. Any thoughts on this? Anyone?
What an eclectic collection! I think most are good to watch once, and only a very few would be good to watch multiple times.
Great memory! ☎️ 42 is the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything. I loved the book series so much better than the film. I loved the dry humor like the demise of populations due to the emigration of telephone sanitizers. ☎️. Gin and tonic anyone? 🍸

In getting rid of DVD-Blu Rays wasn't good when the Internet service went down longer then the power went out. It's ok if you have a power generator. If you buy them on line will cost.
I don’t have DVDs! I had sort of bogged down in decluttering old items, so now I make a weekly list each Sunday, and declutter one listed item each day. It’s not speedy, but it keeps me moving ahead with purpose.

My DH is a bit of a "pack rat" he has a difficult time letting go of things. But his mum is also a very tidy hoarder ❤.

oh my word... This is what we will also have to get down to! We envisage moving into a smaller home/retirement village in the next few years and oh boy, all the downsizing needed! Thank-you for this video because we also have a large collection of DVDs which no-one watches anymore but somehow they are still in this house, tucked away out of sight and out of mind.
I have spent all of 2024 decluttering my home just like you have done since the passing of your dear Mother. I don't have much left as I realized I don't need it and I am now so able to do the flylady routines because the clutter is gone. It is hard to do in the beginning but it changes your whole mindset especially on consumerism. Now watching the terrible natural disaster here in the US. I can see that many will now know what they really need and value in their lives. it is up to the rest of us to help them get back to that place. Supplies and money will be short of the need. Survival is primary, food, water clothing and shelter. Many have lost everything including their livelihoods and family members. It makes me reflect on how I would be handling myself in this situation. TY for showing us all what we are able to do when we deeply reflect and choose a different mindset.

Sometimes it is hard to think about transitions/moving and the fact that we will not need some of the things that we have been holding on to. On the flip side, we can plan for a new life phase and embrace change with some hope and joy. Perspective is important.

I have just ordered a few of those DVDs from my Library.
I do still have DVDs I could honestly let them all go. I dont own a DVD player.😂
I don't have many DVDs but am hesitant to declutter many of the ones I do have. 🤔 it's the what if I want to watch it on a rainy day. 😃 but we had a week of rain and I didn't think to look at them.
When our internet goes out, we still have power via a generator and appreciate the few favorite dvds we kept.
I also never watch a youtube video if I see someone in the thumbnail making a face, lol!
