Only three of them, but they sound like a small choir while you can still hear their individual voices. As they were reinventing themselves, Vicki Wickham, their manager, reportedly encouraged Nona and Sarah to sing the backing vocals as if they were singing the lead.
@@nesq4104 Yeah, it would take a woman to encourage a woman to use her musical voice to express her power and beauty and not force her to coo passively to satisfy a male heterosexual fantasy.
What an AMAZING version!!!!! The Rolling Stones are my favorite band of all time, but Mick Jaggar can on dream of singing like Patti Labelle!! AMAZING!!!
I just watched this on Pluto TV. They have uploaded some old episodes of Soul, a TV series by PBS from the early 70s. I had no idea this existed, but it's fantastic.
Whoa, what a treat!! I love the recorded version on their first album as "Labelle," but to hear them do it live is really something special. Sing it Patti, Sarah, and Nona!!
What an amazing reworking of this song! I was in my teens when LaBelle debuted, but I already was familiar with the group, as the Bluebelles. Thanks so much for uploading this video!
I always thought they was so much better as a trio than a quartet. I know Patti was upset of Cindy leaving to sing with The Supremes. As a trio they were fantastic
I listened to the Rolling Stones original. Many listeners commented that they've played it at a funeral or it evoked the memory of a deceased loved one. Labelle's rendition sounds like a classic soul torch song. Anybody know who arranged it?
R.I.P Miss Silver Throat, Sarah Dash.
Maaannn, - these sistas can sing- so much soul!!! Patti, Nona and Sarah y'all better SANG!!!
wow!they just owned this Rolling Stones classic, turning a country and western-flavoured ballad into a dramatic soul ballad.Awesome performance!
Beautiful individual voices, their sound was bigger than an choir! Labelle clearly was head and shoulders ahead of the other groups 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Light-years ahead there will never ever be a group that can compare to these ladies.
So crazy how there harmonies and sound developed dramatically from their first album as Labelle up until Chameleon. It should be studied in schools
I agree with you, they're harmonizing is amazing!

@@stevelangely8004 yes. Because as q man I would never have thought a voice could be pushed that far. A woman's voice is truly a miracle of God
Sarah had such a commanding voice! May she RIP.
Take THAT Mick!!!!!👑💥💥💥
Listen to Sarah with her angelic adlibs and piercing soprano. Rest in power. . .

This was the October 20, 1971 episode of SOUL!.

My most favorite Girl group from the days of the Bluebells.
Love the slower version of this song also! They were just light years ahead of other groups!!

Wow .. Labelle pouring ALL THE DAMN SOUL into it!!!!. Nothing Left !!!
