      11:31 -- I do not consider myself insanely strong. I bench press with 350 for running sets of 6. I max out around 415 lbs on regular and 385 lbs for paused press (meet style). But I do weight 260 lbs . So relative to my weight, I'd say I'm above average. Mabe I should stop going to powerlifting meets and thinking those guys are the norm.

    CT's strict curl is WILD.
    When I was in high school I had some friends over and we were kicking it in the garage gym and one guy picked up 135 on a barbell and casually curled it and I remember it just blowing my mind. I could not comprehend that at 16 years old. Seeing CT curl 225 is proof that he is just a different animal all together. What a stud.

  • @adamsimon6602
    @adamsimon6602 22 години тому +23

    As a teenager, the internet didn't exist, and science wasn't a thing in my gym, sadly. Another gym bro told me about "ten tens" for squats- starting with 135# for ten reps, throwing on a ten per side no rest and hit another set of ten and continue until you get to ten reps of 315# with no rest. The bar looked funny as hell with all those tens, and all the other gym members hated me for stealing all the tens.

    So this video looks perfect for me to post comment. As a 42 yo, I started to change my habits and life, because it took toll on my mental health as well. I weighed 290lbs, and now I weigh 200lbs. Process was slow (it took me 8 months), but I never felt hungry and I wasn't on restrictive diet. I just followed meal plan for weight loss on Onlymeal, exercised three times per week, do plank and pushup at home, increased water intake and sleep duration. I sleep at least 7 hours every day. Now I feel like I am in the best shape of my life and I am strongly motivated for more.

      I feel you homie decided to hit the weights at 42 now 45 there's times you feel like your not accomplishing anything but when you take a step back and realize your getting stronger or seeing body transformation here and there it makes you push even harder the thing that's messing with my mind at this moment is body dysmorphia I'm clean bulking but start tripping out because of a little fat I'm putting on with the muscle I guess that's what they mean to trust the process and like you said your motivated for more just stand on business because you accomplished a lot in your journey 🤙

    • @alexstone9099
      @alexstone9099 21 годину тому +1

      Yeah, its something insane like 80% of neanderthals (based on our skeleton findings) recieved at least one major trauma in their lives, often more.
      The nature of these wounds reflects their lifestyle and hunting tactics where they are thought to have hunted big game, which back then would have included the dangerous big cats, like cave lions (20% larger than lions as we know them today), sabre tooth tigers, bisons, horses and other large and dangerous animals and due to the high amount of major trauma we see in the skeletons of neanderthals and their anatomy, they were built much better for head on assaults and sprints - as opposed to homo sapiens where we're built for longer distances and endurance.
      Also most comparisons of height to neanderthals compares modern humans to them, but actually the height discrepancy between neanderthals and the homo sapiens they shared the earth with may be less extreme than is often suggested by these somewhat misleading comparisons.
      Those guys were built different.

    • @LucLB01
      @LucLB01 20 годин тому +3

      Maybe to an extent, but correct me if I am wrong but I thought ( except for a few exceptions after generations of mixing ), Neanderthal genes were specific to white people ( with them being from Europe ). Probably not the most significant factor because people like Samoans or Nigerians are some of the strongest out there. My best guess would be environmental factors leading to genetic selection, or lack thereof.

    If you get results like CT… does form matter? (Serious question)

    • @patriarchmike
      @patriarchmike 4 години тому

      Genetics are king. Then training intensity. Then recovery. Then time. Form only matters when you're going light or moderate weight. To a degree. Obviously I'm not talking about when people barely move the weight, but shorties work just as well as lengthened partials as long as the volume is higher. All the other differences are negligible

    Personally I don't believe he bench pressed over 600 drug free.
    Maybe he did, maybe he didn't.
    But if you make me bet, I'd bet he was doing something.

    You know what’s an amazing combo, some clean low dose cycle to prevent muscle cannibalism and avoid risks of running more than you need and then instead of growth hormone which makes you look like a bottle, you implement Hyper stretching which is one of the only ways other than strongman training or gh that can cause hyperplasia instead of just hypertrophy

    Hey Renaissance team, would you consider doing a video on Hampton Liu and Hybrid Calisthenics. He is one of the channel that made me want to take fitness more seriously a few years back and I think there is valuable tips in his content but I'm not a pro nor a phd Dr. of fitness so It'd be fun to see an insider perspective on that 💪
    Also a fantastically worded and colorful commentary as only Dr.Mike knows how to craft, on some of Vladimir Shmondenko video as Anatoly the janitor would be super fun to watch (maybe?!)... and on the whole powerlifting and not being ginormous yet very muscular thing that comes with it.

    I honestly never made the connection between his first form and the later form. I saw some of the older clips and the newer clips in parallel and it took me way too long to realise that they were the same dude. He's a great motivational speaker, he gets people hyped up but he doesn't really bring anything new, there is something people do when they want to differentiate themselves from others when they can't say anything different, they will reframe what they said in the opposite way. Like he'd go on about how overtraining isn't a thing and basically just call it under-resting.. it's the same thing in the end, he just has to say something different to stand out from the crowd.

    Mike knows his way around gym, if you didn't know that, when he starts, "Grabbing a powerlifters bar....."
    You cannot imagine how many times I have been furious with spotters coming in and touching the bar because they think they needed to.
    For context, before benching I clearly explain, stand back, hands behind your back, only come in if I verbally tell you to, otherwise your hands should not be anywhere near a bar.
    Then on the flip side, you only ask certain people at gym for a spot.
