- In this action packed video, in kariokor market, Nairobi, Kenya, several merchants tried to up-sell me on prices of goods (because they heard a little bit of “American” in my accent). They quickly found out that I am more African than they are, from my negotiating techniques. Lol .. you will enjoy this. Please share: #kariokormarket #nairobi #ballahthevagabond #africanvlogs

Pretty good bargining skills from you. 🙂 I visited this market back in November 2021 with the sole purpose of buying a sisal fibre handbag. I was with a guide from my Tour company. We looked around and a gentleman approached me and asked what I was looking for. Since this a 'community' market, he said he was one of the community leaders.. We went over to the handbag section. I picked out the style of the bag I wanted - the bag had no leather straps, no leather closure and wasn't lined.
We went around to stalls that were close and watched different gentlemen complete the bag for me. The price would be 1800 shillings. I was so impressed with the process, I told the Guide, NO, and gave him 2000 shillings. I knew if I purchased the bag here in the USA it would be at least $80.00 or more. The bag is well worth the $20.00.
No hard haggling for me.....at least this time. It was a fun experience I will always remember!
