  • The Stanley name has been synonymous with quality for decades, but what happens if your trusted 1.4qt unit fails?

I bought this product less than a week ago. I haven't had any problems with taste so far. Once I had a similar problem with a brand new plastic kettle. I tried several things and nothing.. until somebody recommended me to use steramina or similar ( I'm not from north America) or similar tablets used to make baby bottles sterile. It worked like a charm! Maybe you can try

It's best to use an alkali cleaner such as PBW (powdered brewery wash). This will completely dissolve any organic matter without leaving any odour. It's safe on the environment, safe on stainless steel, and safe on plastics. For this reason it's used by breweries and home brewers. The plastic cap on these bottles isn't ideal. Consider the Stanley Master Series.

Did you taste the hot water before putting it into the thermos test the water before you boil it then after put it in the thermos wait a couple hours and try Tit again because I've been having a Stanley 1.4 quart thermos for a week and I haven't tasted anything or even smelled anything

Try bottle brush in the thermos that will do the trick because of water will leave a film in the thermos. I had that same problem and that took care of it...

Thanks JT! Gotta love some of those bottle brushes just aren't quite as long as you'd wish they were. We got it taken care of though.

Unfortunately Stanley uses a new coating on inside of the their thermos. It reacts to the temperature of the water and the acidity content. Try distilled water at lower temperature. Shame Stanley produces some of the best products.

I'm willing to bet they did that because the new coating was a few cents cheaper. Glad I found this video before wasting my money.

Give the baking soda suggestion another try for a whole day with the cap open. Rinse it thoroughly with water and brush then leave it to dry for the whole day cap open.

Thanks for the suggestion Marc. It took some time but we finally have it resolved thanks to a tip regarding dishwasher detergent rather than dish soap. My boy made it through an entire day of hunting in the tree stand from dark to dark with fresh, piping hot, hot chocolate.

Its the cap. Its plastic, when in contact with your hot beverage it sweat and get hot. What you smell in there its like burning plastic. Done.

I have purchased to date three 1.4ltr Stanley Thermos.
To date they have all turned out to be absolute rubbish.
Can not get any reply from Stanley or it’s distributors in Australia.

I actually had the same exact issue. Though it was an issue with my cleaning regimen. Tried all kinds of stuff, nothing worked. Wound up tossing it in the garbage. I bought it off Amazon, so I was out of luck. Mine tasted like a mixture of metallic and an old dirty dish rag.

Because it’s a hunting camp, that’s why. In the not to distant past we would have 20+ guys up during the first week of rifle season! You need a comfortable seat to watch Monday night football.

Way too much work just to keep a thermos clean!!!
I am returning mine - metal flakes inside, yikes - this is a defective product lawsuit waiting to happen.
