Love the channel. I have a 77 Johnson 35 HP with a tiller handle off a Johnson 25, mid section and lower unit off an Evinrude 35. Electric start works fantastic and it will idle all day. Your videos have been extremely helpful.
Well done RMD, great video and glad to hear the old gal made it to a new home in like new running condition! Keep doing what you do with the passion we all love to watch!
gday mate ive followed you for a while now , here in aus parts are hard to come by for older engines especially eveinrude and johnston motors you do a great job showing what you do and what can be done even with the bloopers , keep doing what your doing many people will appreciate it who are restoring or even got some of the engines you work on when they have a problem great video take care .
Awesome video and outboard. It was definitely a gem of a find. There’s nothing like the smell of 2 stroke oil in the morning and then sound of a good running outboard. 👍👍 As always Sir thanks for the ride along and Keep’em coming
Hey Michael I learn a lot from watching your videos you explain things very well can you find fix and sell a lot of outboards in the winter I would think it would be very slow thanks for posting the vids
Great video as always. Keep up the great work. You inspire me to get on my 120 mercruiser project. Approximately 1 day off a week doesn't leave a whole lot of time.
Great little motor, I've got an old 33 short that purs like a kitten I just love these old outboards. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to the i6 swap. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞
Thanks, will do! the I6 swap is going to be a fun one, next video you will see it running. It started on accident when I was checking spark, happy little accident. Thanks for watching
Cheers dude. I have a 1977 35hp Johnson which I'm rebuilding. I've been considering pulling everything apart but it's pretty hard to get parts in NZ without selling a kidney. This video gave me a lot of insight. And hopefully I'll still have two kidneys buy then end of it! First video of yours that I've watched, but subbed cause you cried haha
Always a blast to watch you work , very informative and motivational. Please whenever you use your acetylene torch give us some pointers on what you set the valves. Thanks and stay safe.
Great video this morning, if I can't work on my own at the time it's always nice to live vicariously through yours. I agree, tweaking on engines is a certain type of nirvana us older guys live for. I lived in Iowa back in the 90's, Cedar Rapids, was that Coralville reservoirs and the McBride spillway you were passing? Looked familiar. Congrats on the 19k, keep the good vibes coming! Thx.
love those 35 hp by evenrouds had one on a 15 foot lymans lapstreak used it t fish the niagra river great motors love your changel sorry for bad spelling not my strong suit.
Hey Mike really want to see you show that old Evenrude I am guessing a late 50s I have 1 just like it. Especially would like to see how you address the pressurized gas tank.
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina i was thinking something along the lines of yamaha. i saw you already posted a diy prop bearing puller for a merc. But maybe ill be able to implement something like that for the yamaha.
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina Would love to see that on the channel! Trying to build up the confidence and UA-cam mechanic skills to tackle a motor like that some day!
I put a lawn and garden style fuel pump on my evinrude 15hp. I wasnt a fan f the multi layer diaphram pump. Usually you can find those style at and lawn and garden store and sometimes the big box stores. They only run about 17.00
Thanks for the Sunday video. It’s my opinion that when the Chinese corporate spy was copying out the Evinrude carb kit parts, they either guessed wrong on the thread size or wrote it down wrong. Now they have 50,000 kits with the wrong one and don’t care to fix it.
I love towards the end of the video you had gotten emotional for us viewers being a part of your channel. And that makes me want to be a part of it even more. It def gives me joy knowing your doing something that your passionate about. And I just love your content and just ur all out personality and querky jokes and sayings. Hi buddy I have a 1974 Evinrude 9.9 I was just asking it will run trolling for a little bit then stalls does the breather on the gas tank have to be open
Michael, you may have answered this already, but I can’t find it, so you made a comment about Sierra parts not being all that good, so is that for all parts or just electrical ones? Thanks and Love your videos. Tom
Awesome! . Have that engine strong😢 Fkers I use mine twice a week from Miami to the keys for about 5 years.. mines a 35953A also that's good compression for this model mines at 125 on both I suspect with a electric start and warm it will be higher than 110 I So have a seahorse. 69 25 hp I'm looking for a starter bracket for that one I'm so tired of tennis elbow lol
The pull start can get ya for sure, ended up in insta care last week for that same thing, broke my own rule, shouldn't pull and engine 50 times like I did, thanks for watching
Michael thats what I like about you if its not good enough for you to use on your personal boat its not good enough to sell to someone else Chris from OHIO gooooooo Buckeyes 😊
FYI not all Evinrude 35hp came with an air box, I know this because I have an 1982 E35RCND which does have an air box and no parts diagrams list or show one ether?
I enjoyed this video. That is not from a Sierra kit, because the seats actually work from Sierra. Your aftermarket kit is from the famous tin foil package, indicating that it is from China and none of those seats from those kits work properly. The rubber gaskets stretch out too much as well. In addition, instead of the kits having two plastic washers for the carb jets, metal washers are supplied instead.
Those new and shiny but cheap junk seats that don't fit are frustrating. I wonder if Sierra knows that none of their seats actually fit. Have you ever tried contacting them and letting them know?
Do you know the difference between a 30 35 carb 30 has a brass rod in side the throat up n down 35 doesn't have it can take it out by the cap on the top put the cap back on 😁most people don't know this 🙋🍿

Curious your thoughts on ethonol vs ethanol free gas and what kind of 2 stroke oil you prefer. Grandpa always swore by quicksilver
I don't use ethanol on any of my small engines including my I/O boats, I use Amsoil two stroke oil only made for outboards, thanks for watching

What is mix ratio for 1957 18hp johnson 😊
They claim 16:1 ratio, some may go as high as 24:1. It's a pretty rich oil mixture. I remember running it that rich in my old 1955.
We ran 20:1 in our '58 Johnson 18 hp and a '54 Johnson 10 hp. Both ran over 400 hrs per season for years and years.
I have a 76 40hp Evinrude I need a tiller handle for.
I don't have one, thanks for watching
What if you put a bigger carburator on it maybe a bit more horse power ?
only if the 35hp was a detuned version of a larger outboard. Thanks for watching
I've got a 1977 35hp Johnson electric start and 1981 Evinrude pull start. The Evinrude goes harder but electric start is far easier
the horse power rating changed between those years.
