Hello Paola. I’m about three weeks into learning Dobro. This is the best lesson on UA-cam and a must watch. I know that once I get this one down I will be able to make beautiful music on this wonderful instrument. But it will take time to digest this lesson and be able to make friends with these enemies. It is not easy to get the muscle memory going to be able to play clean. With your help I am confident now that it can be done a little at a time. Had to subscribe of course. It took me years to became a banjo player and I am still learning from all the young pickers carrying it forward on UA-cam. Thank you for the lessons. Ciao.
Thanks a lot John, appreciate it and glad you find it useful. I sure have to do some more videos and expand the knowledge of this beautiful and mysterious instrument. Thanks for your comment, and thanks for subscribing. Grazie.
Thanks a lot Chris. Yes, for me the most important thing is my ear, I will do a lesson about ear learning too. Thanks for your comment. Appreciate it. Grazie.
Hello Paolo, I’m brand new to the dobro. I’ve watched some beginner lessons from other players but I’ve found your lessons very helpful so I subscribed. I’m looking forward to more. You seem to have a love for American bluegrass, very cool. Grazie
Thanks Jim, I'm so glad I can help the beginners. There's a lot to talk about and I will sure make others ones. Yes I grew up with Bluegrass music. Thanks for subscribing.
Yes Robert, that also helps in cutting the extra noise caused by these strings so the sound is more round and full. Chop is not easy on the dobro. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks Robert.
Thanks Paulo! I am so glad I found your instruction! I am just starting to play Dobro and I’m willing to work hard in practice. You give great practice and technique tips. I’m interested to know what are your favorite slides. I have started with a Shubb SP 2. It feels a little heavy, but I don’t have anything to compare it to. Thanks for everything!
Grazie Frank. Thanks for your comment. I've tried many bars and actually now that I know how to use it properly I have to say that every bar works for me. As a beginner is more difficult to get used to a bar, it's true. But I have a favorite now, it's called Charlie bar, made from the same person who makes Charlie Capo. I like it because is a little more heavy and to me it gives a little more soft and bigger sound, I feel the difference in the Tone compared to the others, but I'm talking about really small small difference, but I like this one now. Sure I've tried every kind of bars, also Scheerhorn that is one of my favorite too, and another really really good and I would like to use it again, it's the Tipton, but the person who makes it is not easy to reach or anyway maybe he ram out of order and he don't build them very often, so I didn't have the chance to ask him for another one again, but it's really good, it is my favorite too together with the Charlie. But if you like lighter one, for you I think the Shubb is perfect anyway. Ciao !

I just played on stage at the local jam for the first time 4 days ago. Thanks again for your videos.
I look forward to your lessons each week. Thanks
Thanks Kelly. I have not forgotten about your tab, I will come back to you soon, these videos are keeping me busy.. Stay tuned, and thanks so much.
Thanks Paolo. Nice approach, getting away from TAB, encouraging learning by ear and video 👍🏻

Let me know if this is helping you. Thanks.
Hi Paolo, thank you for these great tips! I have been struggling with the Chop and it was a revelation that you in fact mute the first two strings!
Yes Robert, that also helps in cutting the extra noise caused by these strings so the sound is more round and full. Chop is not easy on the dobro. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks Robert.
Noises ... our worst enemies !
So true. Keep playing, it will disappear
Very nice! Thanks Paolo!
Thanks a lot Tony, hope this helps. Grazie

Hey Paolo. Sorry I misspelled your name. My apologies!
No problem !
