Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My wife Heidi and I now have 3 kids and over 300+ videos. My purpose for the channel is to entertain, enlighten and inspire.

The scared dog really got me. Although people with pets certainly have a different appreciation of the 4th of July.

I have an amazing "fourth of July" dog story. Years ago, a friend's dog was so frightened by the sound of fireworks that she broke out of her yard and ran away, which was devastating [to us, too]. Weeks went by, and then months...and finally when we had all begrudgingly given up hope, two months later, she was spotted living underneath someone's porch, two towns away!!! Talk about miracles! Needless to say, there was a very happy, tearful reunion the day she came home!
I have a dog story as well my grandmas dog got so scared by the fire works she got trapped in a stop in the Landry room where there where pipes as we came into the garage we head something but ignored it my my mom found the dog and she called for my grandma and they got her out after like 20-30 minutes it was the funniest but sorta scary moments I guess.
I spelt a lot of thing wrong I apologize lol
I have one from my uncle, he had a lab that would grab the fire works and chase people down.
More dogs go missing around the 4th of July than any other time of year.
Same thing happened with my dog but she cane back a week later
96 layer dip ready! 🤣 I literally have one of each category in just our own family. All the way down to the panting, peeing, run away dog. Happy 4th of July, and the freedom to make our own comments again!

No. 2 😂 We went to our new neighbors house for fireworks (just moved to the state). He literally drunk shouted “Happy birthday ‘Merica!!!!” after each firework. 😂
Loved the Cedar Rapids, IA joke. I grew up there there & they can't make up their minds about whether or not to allow fireworks other than the big displays done by the city lol

I reconcile this by calling it Fireworks Day and dedicating it solely to blowing things up, getting drunk, and completely ignoring that the country has anything to do with the day (I also quietly wear orange and if anyone asks why, I just say "I support indigenous people").
This is a very popular approach in Canada. It's possible to reject settler-colonialist genocide without being an obnoxious dick about it :)

@@mayganphynix8267 as a child, I loved fireworks, they terrified my older sister... so I'm sitting there saying "weeeee pop!" and my sister is curled up so tightly to my mother/father, that they must have gotten scars from her nails digging into their skin... I sadly, can now relate to your younger self, and my sister... but I'm still proud to have served and love this country fiercely...

If i had 10 dollars for every time someone told me about the Canadian healthcare system and how it was literally like 1000% the best and said stuff like that (I mean not broken leg replacement but kinda like that) I would be able to probably afford my own body replacements in the US. I do not doubt it may be better then American healthcare but within any system there is problems, Americans don’t talk about that though! Only the problems within ours and what we believe is only good in yours. The grass is always greener I guess. But seriously if we could take the best parts of both and fix the problems within each, that would be great!

I also have special headphones for my dog and a compression blanket if it gets too bad! But were currently working on desensitizing her to loud noises like gunshots and firewood! So far, she's doing amazing!

This year I got my friends dog an Adaptil pheromone collar. It was absolutely amazing the difference it made. Unbelievable from shaking to playing & eating. It also comes in a plugin diffuser & a spray can.
For cats there's the Felliway version.
It works by releasing the pheromones, scent, that the mother dog/cat releases to make the babies feel safe.
