Yeah, that was pretty neat! That means the creator cares about his fans. Skytear Horde was a sleeper hit for me. A subscriber from the channel recommended it to me. Before that, I hadn’t heard of it before. It turned out to be really good! I think you’re going to enjoy it. The deck construction is awesome in this game and so is the gameplay!
I totally agree. Hoplomachus Victorum is truly the best solo only game of 2023. Creative mechanics + hundreds of combinations gives a solo player a lot of fun.

Skytear Horde was mentioned as an lcg but i think it’s a stretch to think of it like that. It’s more like a solo Magic the Gathering or Hearthstone, imo
Thanks, Chris! Skytear Horde is on sale pretty frequently at a really low price. I think it’s more than worth the price of admission at full price but a sale would make it even better! Tales From the Red Dragon Inn is one of the most charming, fun and clever board games I’ve played since Adventure Tactics.

@@Filthyanimal9I’ve heard it be compared to MTG, as well. For me, when it comes to deck construction, it reminded me a lot of Marvel Champions but you may be right. It may not be a pure LCG but it definitely feels like it has some of that DNA. The Monolith expansion is going to take Skytear Horde to a completely different level! I can’t wait to construct a deck with the upcoming cards!

I'm really, very much enjoying "Tales from the Red Dragon Inn" The game doesn't take itself too seriously, and yet, has a great story to tell.
Also, looking forward to breaking out the Hoplo Victorum game; haven't had the nerve ;)
Thank you! I agree! Tales From the Red Dragon Inn is a very enjoyable dungeon crawler with a fun story and characters that have great chemistry between one another and can make you smile. The best part is that the actual game offers a fun adventure with enjoyable combat and scenarios.
My advice when it comes to Hoplomachus Victorum is to take your time to read and learn it. Also, make sure you play when you have 2-3 hours to spare. This game is best played slowly. How you decide to upgrade yourself and which units you recruit is vital to your success and can lead to defeat if not planned properly. Take it slow and you will find much to enjoy! Good luck!
My favourite solo game that I currently own for 2023 has to be Massive Darkness 2. Together with the KS stuff it's provided me hours of fun though I've mostly played that with family and friends. I have played some of the scenarios solo, and hope to get through them all at some point.

I had only played the first chapter earlier this year; I'm looking forward to playing the entire campaign this time. All of the games on your list, though, look very promising! 🙂
Enjoy Wreckland Run. It’s such a great solo board game. I’ve played A LOT of Marvel Champions, too! Last week, Deadpool arrived at my door and X-23 arrives next week. So far, Marvel Champions is knocking it out of the park with the expansions that have been released. I’m up to date on everything Marvel Champions and so far, it doesn’t look like its going to slow down any time soon!

So glad to see another of your videos. Welcome back. I never knew that there was a Legendary Encounters Matrix. Can I ask how many missions it has? Also you are so right about Wreckland Run. So good. With a wife, two kids and two dogs while doing a full time job six days a week I don't get much chance to board game. But Wreckland Run had me forcing my way to play it lol. So good.
Thanks, William! In The Matrix, you go through the original trilogy with 3 acts in each. It feels like a lot of content and the rulebook shows you how to create your own movie/acts to go through. It’s tough but since I’m a fan of The Matrix, I really have fun with it. Definitely worth it if you’re a fan!
I feel you. When my kids were younger, there was barely any time for anything else. Now that our kids are much older (one halfway through high school and the other in college), my wife and I have found a little more time for ourselves. Still very busy, just not as much as before. Enjoy the kids while they’re little. It goes by really, really fast!
As far as Wreckland goes, yeah, it’s GOOD!! The expansion is really good, too! If you finish the main campaign, you should check it out (if you have time 😜). My oldest just walked up to me as I was writing this. Time flies.

Right now, I'm enjoying Fliptown. There's a learning curve and you need a but of luck to achieve the highest rankings (which evades me, still). But a great little game that is dripping with theme and ticks lots of boxes for solo play.

In the meantime, I recommend Warp’s Edge as a solo-only experience. It’s a great place to start when playing pure solo. Since you mentioned Massive Darkness 2 in your other comment, I heard that’s a great game to play solo, as well. If you purchase the Heavenfall expansion, it adds an entire campaign to the game.
If you’d like some more recommendations, feel free to ask me! At the end of the year I tend to do one livestream. If I end up doing it this year, join us. Towards the middle/end of the stream, I answer questions from everyone that joined the chat. There we talk about recommendations and pretty much everything else!

The scanning mechanic is/was a key gameplay element of Legendary Encounters: Alien.
Now that you mentioned that, I vaguely remember hearing that a few years ago in a review. That is a great mechanic that was introduced in Legendary!
I replied to him with the same comment. It might be the best implementation of the mechanism yet for all the Legendary games. It’s hard to get but still possible. Even shrink wrapped ones sometimes.

Thank you! Yes, Victorum is VERY time consuming. It’s one of those games that is best left out on the table. Otherwise, it can become frustrating to resume a campaign. An excellent game but one with some caveats that may deter many.

I still recommend you Street Masters it has the exact same dice mechanic like Tails from the red dragon inn where you never miss a dice throw, you always get something from the dice, I highly recommend it, you will love it
A few years ago, I found Street Masters at my local store. At that time, I had purchased something else instead. When I went back to the store with the intention of purchasing Street Masters, it was gone! I have never seen it at a store since and EBay sells them for too much. Maybe one day I’ll find it again (somewhere out there).

Recently got Skytear Horde on a deep sale from Mini Market and fell in love instantly. I haven't gotten into the deck construction yet as I just ordered the KS bonus deck and will wait for the recent crowdfunding stuff to hit retail. I've heard it described as solo Magic The Gathering and it really does scratch that itch for me.
Fellow pinball fan so I guess I'm going to dive in to the boardgame as well.
My new to me in 2023 solo games that I'm having fun with is Judge Dredd Cursed Earth, Kinfire Delve Vainglorys Grotto, Unmatched Tales to Amaze and Legacy of Yu.
Hey, Zdelorean88, glad to see you! Skytear Horde has the potential to really shine, if people take to it. Who knew a pinball game for the tabletop would be so good? It’s worth it! Especially for the price it goes for. I think I paid $15 for it and I think that was a steal. Very much worth it!
Your list brought Judge Dredd to my attention. He’s someone I would like to see more of in movies and games. Unmatched, however, I feel as if I had heard there was going to be a solo mode for it but I wasn’t sure. If I find that, I’m getting it ASAP! Thanks for bringing those games to my attention!

@@SoloBoardGamingKnight It is self contained and I like the heroes in the set since they are made for this co-op play even though you can use them in the normal versus mode. As a Marvel fan, I'd get one of those boxes the best one is probably 'Brains and Brawn' which contains Spider-Man, She-Hulk and Doctor Strange but you really don't need anything outside of the main Tales to Amaze box if you just want to play co-op. I actually got rid of most of my Unmatched sets as it never saw play but I kept the Buffy set as it kind of fits thematically. Also, kept Deadpool and Bruce Lee but thats because those won't be reprinted. Everything else is pretty easy to get and rather cheap.

Clank is amazing. The unofficial Laura automa is fantastic. Dice Throne Adventures is also great. I pledged for the X-men DTA recently :) By the way, Legendary Encounters Alien with its 2 expansions, as well as LE Predator, are unbelievably superb. Unfortunately, Alien is OOP, which is very sad if you don't have it, but it's the only Legendary Encounters game I own and will ever own. It's the best version out there, and many people on BGG agree.
The one game on your list that I despise and sold immediately after my first complete game is Hoplo Victorum, not because it's overly long, but because it's anticlimactic and felt like a waste of my time. Getting through all those battles only to have no shot at all against the last primus and Scion is absolutely ridiculous. I cannot support that game at all, and I think it's a travesty of a design. Too Many Bones is the number 1, and only, Chip Theory game I own.
Dice Throne Adventures is one of my all-time favorite games! I have everything for Dice Throne. I’m going to Late Pledge X-Men because I found out about it after the campaign ended. It’s going to be fun to play their take on Adventures for Marvel!
Although I missed out on Legendary Encounters: Alien, I’m glad I got my hands on The Matrix. It’s tough but really fun and it’s a great twist to the Legendary formula. It’s a great addition to my collection!
There was a conversation I had with someone that commented a similar sentiment to yours with regards to Hoplomachus Victorum. Since my review of the game earlier this year, I would say there is an even 50/50 split when it comes to that game. People either loved it or hated it. Obviously, I know where you land and you know where I land but I can understand both arguments. Personally, leaving the game on the table for over a month and just coming back to it every night to play an event or two was a highlight of my year. It was a lot of fun and relaxing for me. Planning my travels to better prepare myself for what was coming was addicting to me. With that written, I can see how the game can frustrate. That’s why I made sure to preface my number one with that caveat. Lol! I knew it was going to go 50/50.
Finally, Too Many Bones is my all-time favorite game. I’ve owned everything except Riffle but I’m getting him next time he arrives at the store. TMB was the first game I ever spent over $100 on. Before that, I would’ve never imagined I would do that. I like CTG a lot. I still want to play Cloudspire from them but so far I have enjoyed everything I’ve played from them.

It’s not you. It’s definitely the rulebook. Same thing happened to me. Once I got passed that, things started looking up. In my review, I included a link to the FAQ’s when it comes to the rulebook.

You should try Heroes of Terrinoth. I bet you'll like it a lot.
I’ll put it on my “To Buy” list. I wouldn’t mind expanding on Descent. Are there expansions for it? It seems that it was a one and done.
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight Surpirsingly not, but being FFG, the core set has pretty good content. 8 escenarios and 3 heroes of every one of the 4 classes they have. Cheap, good replay value, good game, easy to hit the table, interesting to have you playing through 7 of the 8 escenarios with different heroes and foes combinations. Knowing that FFG's core sets are demos meant to buy plenty of expansion, this one fits the bill as no other FFG's game will do. I like it a lot and still play it. Good mechanics, very well done . Being a fan of the Terrinoth Universe, I might say this one is the one that more playing value gives you for the money and for what comes in the box.

Any thoughts on Hoplomachus Remastered buddy?
Not yet. I haven’t played it and I don’t own it. I’ve had my eyes on Cloudspire for a while now and I was thinking if I were to get another CTG, it would be Cloudspire. If the Remaster is worth getting for owners of Victorium, let me know.
I found Remastered worth it. Noting that it also is expensive. However the extra variety per faction can be mixed in to Vic. Plus the play modes (with new expansion modes 2x) make for quick and fun play.

Do we have to get the first descent to play the expansion?
Yes, you need Act 1. It feels like a sequel because of the changes and the things added but it is not standalone. Now that I’m thinking about it, I should’ve been more specific about that in the video.

You may be able to find a cheaper and similar dice tray in other places, though. My dice tray was included as part of a Black Friday bundle deal they offered a few years ago.

Second, I did not see it coming, Hoplomachus Victorum making your #1. Quite the surprise there. I would have bet on Tales from the Red Dragon Inn (the only one also on my list) or Descent. It's probably owned to a personal bias, I absolutely hate Hoplomachus Victorum.

I’ve received a few comments talking about HV. There is probably and even split 50/50. People seem to love it or hate it. That’s why I made sure to mention that research should be done before diving in. In my opinion, both sides have valid points. I just tend to land in the “Love It” category. It has a lot to do with how I played it, I think. I just left it out on the table for weeks and enjoyed an event or two every night. I found it relaxing and enjoyable.
You had mentioned Voidfall before and I haven’t forgotten about that game. It’s #1 on your list, too! I never found it at my local shop since you mentioned it and Amazon is charging $450 for it! If I ever luck out and find it while board game hunting, that will be purchased without a second thought.

There are times when I look at the creator app for YT and I end up seeing a few comments that were put on hold. I don’t quite understand how it works exactly because a lot of times, it’s just a regular comment. Maybe if you tried to add a link, it was triggered. I don’t get it. Either way, I did visit the website and found it. Voidfall was on the last page of their games. I’m excited for it! Yesterday, someone recommended Unmatched the coop version and that’s on the way. Hoplomachus is fun only for 1 or 2 runs.
When I play it, since I leave it setup for days at a time, I enjoy sitting down and playing 1 or 2 events at a time. It’s enjoyable for me and very digestible when played that way. That doesn’t mean that everyone will feel the same, however. I completely understand.
It wasn't fun at all for me after the first 1. I was very disgusted with it.

Sure, no problem. From what I have gathered, UA-cam does it automatically. In my past videos, it’s happened without me doing anything (it takes some time to get added). There have been times that I’ve added timestamps to the description and nothing happens. It’s 50/50 with me. Sometimes the timestamps worked perfectly, sometimes they are partially working (but have misspelled words) and sometimes they don’t show up at all. Hopefully, in the future, we are given more control of the timestamps.

This video is tightly made and well produced as always, but putting aside the esthetics, sometimes I really don't know how come are you saying certain things but don't mention other which are not less crucial when objectively judging a game... And all of this makes ot sound like a commercial of some sort.
For example - 12:20 -
How can you not say in the exact same sentence that each nemesis is actually playing exactly the same, and that never changes between games, no matter which heroes you're playing with - and that factor will directly and hugely affect Marvel D.A.A.G.E.R longevity..?
- I can only wonder what other crucial pieces of information you missed, skipped, chose to spare from your viewers, and why...

I’m glad you enjoyed the video, overall! I don’t think I quite understand your example. I don’t think the Nemesis play exactly the same. Considering the modularity of the minions, the missions that can be revealed as well as the way each Nemesis react, I don’t believe they play similarly at all. Eventually, you will have seen all the missions as well as every combination of heroes, villains and minions but that will take a while. However, the Nemesis are still distinct from one another. That is my opinion at least but I’m not sure how your experience with the game has been. I also mentioned that some reviewers didn’t like the game that much.
One thing I did want to point out is the fact that, although I am able to monetize my channel, I have not done so. This channel is my passion project. Something I’ve been wanting to do for myself and share with others. If anything is skipped, it’s not due to hiding any information from my viewers. In this video, I attempted to dedicate about 2 minutes or so to each board game I wanted to showcase. It’s really difficult to include a lot of information in that amount of time. My objective was to attempt to at least show-off and give a basic idea of what each game is with the intention of having the viewers search for more information, if a game called their attention. That’s why in a my number one pick I mentioned that the game may not be for everyone and I even recommended that they watched not only my videos but other reviews, as well.
I hope this cleared any concern you had regarding my videos and my channel. At the end of the day, my desire is to simply share my board game experiences with others that enjoy the hobby. With all of that written, I do understand your concern. Unfortunately, there are A LOT of videos out there that literally are commercials more than an honest take on a game. In my case, we may not agree on a particular game, however, I will always offer my honest opinions. Hopefully, you’ll be able to enjoy my videos even more knowing that I pretty much have the same concerns as you when it comes to content. I was referring to the villains themselves, and the fact that by design they were kept samey, but I understand your perspective.

The Victorum games cost ten times more than they should .... HUNDREDS of dollars. To get all the Too Many Bones, and expansions, is THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS.
Are you high or something. If you get every expansion of Too Many Bones and all the core boxes, plus Automaton of Shale and Splice & Dice (which arguably aren't needed), the upgraded chips for health and the giant Trove chest it comes to around $1100. Not cheap by any means but not three times the amount that you came up with. Also you don't need everything. You can get one core box like Undertow plus grab an extra character or two for $160 and have plenty of replayability to last you dozens of hours.

Yeah, SoloFlo is right! I’m a huge fan of Bullet and Marvel Champions. Deadpool arrived last week and X-23 should be here next week. I’m all caught up with Marvel Champions. I was hoping to see Beast make his way to MC but I’m not sure it’s going to happen at this point. No shame on my part ;)
