I was there too and at The Holiday Inn Rivermont. Gary Rossington shared his bottle of Jack Daniel’s w/ me in their room. I may have been only 17 years old. Like you said very nice polite guys. So sad when the plane crash happened.
I agree, though if I could pick a lineup, I think Bob Burns was a better drummer than Artimus. He played Freebird on the studio cut & just think as tight as Skynyrd has always been, think Bob was tighter. Just my opinion, well & my husband who ran sound for a few local bands (not sayin it makes him expert, but he has great ear for sound. The stuff I have been able to find with Bob sounds slightly better to me. Rickey Medlockealsi played drums with them but have never heard him, he said in interview, he had played drums before & he actually called Leon maybe lookin for roadie job but whoever it was said call Ronnie because we need a drummer. Bob Burns was having mental issues so he wasn't always abke to play. He did come back till 74 I believe when Artimus took over. Also probably gonna get some hate in this but as much as I loved Ed King & think he was amazing guitar player, I believe Steve was phenomenal guitar player, maybe because I like that bluesy sound he brought where Ed's background was psychedelic rock w /SAC, not that he couldn't play bluesy, just think Steve was just magical & IMO would have been next SRV Also read that Ed King played bass on Freebird, not sure what other tracks
@@kathyrais574 Ed played bass on the whole 1st album with the exception of 1 song. Ed joined the band on bass to replace Leon who had quit the band right before they went in to the studio. After the album was cut Leon returned to the band and Ed became the 3rd guitarist.

Thought Ed played bass on all but Tuesday's Gone & Mississippi Kid which was Al Cooper aka Roosevelt Cook. Ed just wanted to be in band so he played bass but his heart was at guitar & he & RVZ agreed he was good bass player, not great so they hopped in car & went to ice cream factory where Leon was working, my dream job BTW, & talked him into coming back & 3 guitar army was born. Not sure. I think Rickey & Greg came around same time, Rickey said he knew he wasn't great drummer plus I think they decided to put Blackfoot back together but Rickey did record some great songs at Muscle Shoals, I believe Bob must gave gotten well enough for awhile but abt end of 74 he had mental break in Europe. Once I was in a better place I started listening to them, but not thinking abt all the tragedy just enjoyingy fav band again. Bot even sure why I am sharing this with you in particular except maybe it is cathartic in a way. Sorry for the TMI but just putting it out there, makes me feel a lil better
I was in that crowd with some of my best friends. I remember an opening act for them Wet-Willie. They had and electric harmonica player that was awesome.
I was there! Main Floor, Section CC, Row 2, Seat 8. It was great to hear them do about 3 songs that would show up a year later on the street survivors album. What’s Your Name, That Smell & You Got That Right!
Oh my goodness. What a treasure you have there my friend. One of the great tragedies of rock and roll is the fact that there is so little quality concert footage of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band. Other than Knebworth and a few songs from Day on the Green we have almost nothing. So glad you were able to save and salvage this. Great band, always and always will be my favorite band. Thanks for sharing this.
I consider myself lucky to say I saw the original band twice and of course they were awesome. I already had bought my ticket for the 3rd time to see them. The date for that show was Oct. 27 1977.
Do you not mean October 27th 1977? Skynyrd didn't have any tour dates in September 77, they played Vegas in August 77, then the street survivors tour started on October 13th 🏴
@@garypeacock5919 Thanks for spotting that. Guess I had a brain fart when I typed that out. My friends and I were excited they were coming to town to play. We had already bought our ticket because it was going to sell out. But we never got to see that show. The plane when down 7 days before our show. Oct. 27, 1977. Thanks will edit.
@@igoski1582 at least you got to see the original band, i missed their last show in Glasgow, Scotland in ( i think), February 77, it was sold out. Seen the new band twice, but it'll never be as good as the original 🏴
Yep. I live in Jackson TN and we have the Jackson Coliseum which is a smaller version but almost the same layout. So we always had to specify either the Jackson or the Memphis Coliseum so that name stuck.
I do know the soundtrack you're using especially Gimme Three steps is from the One From the Road double album recorded live at the Fox theater in Atlanta in July of that year... recognized it immediately because I played the shit out of those two. Best live album ever!!
Seen em 11/20/76 binghamton ny w Climax blues...after at hotel security closed bar..mr Whitaker) my friends Dad knowing of their reputation..Skynyrd and us fans staged a sit in..30 min later was opened w no serious incidents...LS never returned to broome county!
Could be that the clip is what's left of a damaged film from long ago. I think that most people didn't know how to store them properly; many people's memories on film have been ruined by storing them in attics.
One in the same. Thats what we always called it back then. I live in Jackson Tn and we have the Jackson Coliseum so I am sure thats why....they were both built about the same time and look very similar. Ours was smaller but it still stands today and has events.
you will never see the likes of a band like that again ....
Nope
Amen to that bro. Rip boys
promises promises
Never ever again!!
and that is so sad. At least we have recordings and videos and the Stone Roadie Show to keep us moving forward.
I was there!!! Met them later, top floor Holiday Inn by accident. Don't let their wild reputation fool you. They were complete gentlemen!!
Dang yer lucky

A shame that was a week after the plane crash😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Had tickets for a November show in Philly. Saw them earlier in 77 at JFK Stadium. Still the best live show I’ve ever seen.
Wow! No autotune, no high tech stage effects, just raw talent!

Freaking awesome. Thank you! !!
Ha, Ridgeway Class of 75, was there!! "Skinny"
I was at that very show. Midsouth Coliseum. That venue, sadly, is no longer there.
I was 16 years old, had a drivers license, probably a few bucks in my pocket, a resident of Memphis, and I was NOT at this show. Damn.
Cara esta banda era de mas os caras era a cara do rock
Ronnie with his Joker Hat…and the 3-Guitar Army!
Saw them in Memphis Summer Jam 76. Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Outlaws, Blue Oyster Cult, and Marshall Tucker Band for 10.50.

I may have been there. Didn't realize the privilege at the time.
The day after my 4th Birthday!
Great true story,book title-"Cowboy Mafia "-",
I've never understood why bands don't film every concert they do. They are throwing away the map to the Gold Mine.
Billy was a good looking fo sure✌🏻💓
Oh my God everybody was there they have all the memorabilia they were there they were there b*******
Y only 1:02 I wanna see more don't tease us
This was filmed on a portable 8mm camera and they can't record for very long before you have to stop and send it in to have the footage developed

Is that all you have of that performance. I would gladly buy that concert.
Love me some Skynyrd

They had Steve turn his guitar off cuz he did not know all the songs that's why they had him in the back
