Guiding Light: Reva's Return Part 15 - Josh (FINALLY) Sees Reva On The Plane

- On the Spaulding jet, Josh - at long last - sees the very much alive Reva Shayne.
Alan is annoyed and said he knew he couldn't trust Buzz Cooper. Reva asks for a minute to talk to Josh.
While at first excited to see Reva alive, Josh quickly turns to anger realizing that she's been in Springfield for a few weeks as Rebecca. Reva explains that she and Alan met in Goshen by accident. Josh asks how she could be back and not see their children as she tries to explain. When Josh doesn't accept Reva's reasoning, she accuses him of still jumping to conclusions and being as judgmental as ever and then tells him to go to Annie.
Annie tries to start the reception with an awkward toast. Afterward, she goes out to the carousel where Rick follows her and offers to take her to the plane.
Josh turns to leave when Marah suddenly runs on the plane asking if her mother is real. Marah asks why if Reva's been alive she didn't come to see her and Josh has the same question. Alan tries to explain amnesia to Marah but Marah says that Reva should have come and explained her 'scrambled egg brain' once she remembered. Reva again tries to explain and Marah cries and runs into Annie's arms as she & Rick arrive on the plane.

Note: as of April, 2022 there doesn't seem to be a lot of 1995 Guiding Light on UA-cam. Some of these scenes are available on other channels - this series is everything from a VHS someone sent me in the late 90s for story continuity.

Josh makes it sound like he wouldn't have married Annie if he knew she was alive. He said, "Do you know what happened today?" I can't watch this scene after that. It's too hard.

Agreed. I think this was the way that writers could justify keeping them apart from each other for so long when Reva returned in 1995.
Josh literally turned
on a dime here. He is obviously so consumed by anger that he is acting irrationally. He really wants Reva back but can't handle it, so he goes
to extremes by being cruel to her.
There is only 82 seconds of Josh being happy to see an alive Reva before it all starts falling apart. :/ Agree that Josh is running on pure emotion here - mostly blinded by shock & anger that after being so devastated when she was gone, after spending years grieving for her - she's been alive and didn't come straight to him & the kids - and seems to be cavorting with Alan Spaulding.
Yes he jumps to conclusions and refuses to hear her out because he is angry that she didn't return straight to him and was hanging out with Alan Spaulding. He even sounds like he blames her for letting him marry Annie.
I didn't notice before that he brought up driving the car off the bridge.
@@rebeccaharkins2058 Same! I've been working on close captioning for the videos on my channel (because the auto UA-cam CCs can be terrible) and I keep noticing little things I've never paid attention to when watching.
@@mayaferry582 I was SOOO annoyed that after waiting 6 months (+5 years) for them to be in the same room looking at each other, there is SOOOOO little time that it's a happy reunion. Inspired by the 58 second rooftop kiss, I decided to time it - ha !

That hand on her cheek. I'm surprised he didn't just kiss her. I do think it was wrong for the writers to not let Reva let them know she was back because she would of wanted her kids. Seems out of character.

Omg this acting is impeccable ps I liked being a kid with these soaps but as I got older experiences of infidelity and drama 🎭 like the soaps came to life and I was the star but I didn’t get famous or paid lol
When I look back at episodes like this it reminds me why I always rooted and felt bad Annie. Reva drove that nice lady crazy and back to the bottle 😭😭😭

In the end, when it mattered, Josh and Reva re-married and were together.
I wonder what would’ve happened if Marah hadn’t come along in the plane? My guess is after Josh got over his anger, he wouldn’t let it go and would try to find her.
There are SOOO many ways this reunion could have been written. To me (as a parent), while I understand that Josh was distracted, it's incredible that Marah was able to stow away in his car and ride hidden (& what I would guess to be unbuckled) all the way to the airport. So it seems like a plot device that makes Josh not stay any longer at the plane - and sets up the beautiful conversation between Josh & Marah later - as the two who grieved the most for Reva and are the most affected by her decision to leave without even telling them she was alive.

Looking back, this writing made no sense. What did Reva expect? She had been dead for 5 years 😂 She didn't even know she was Reva. She had amnesia. What did she expect Josh to do?
Reva ruined Guiding Light
Agreed. She was great in the 80’s. The show was so good once Reva was gone 1990-1994. It forced the writers to write for everyone and not just lean on Reva/Josh.
