    Hopefully she returns, she's a lovely vessel and fits the Tallinn-Helsinki route way better than Victoria 1. 🙂

      I hope so too, I think Victoria fits better on the Stockholm - Tallinn route to be honest

      You can even scrap the Viken, of course it's better than these new LNG garbage.

    I once spent night in Silja Europa in 2014. It was a nice ship. I hope it returns to helsinki-tallinn route some day.

    Europa was the end of a great shipping company, Rederi AB Slite, from little Slite on Gotland. They had many fine ships such as Olympia, Ahtena and Kalypso.
    A lot has been written about Nordbanken's (today Nordea) handling of the loan at it leads to many questions. Several managers worked for both Nordbanken and the construction company NCC. NCC was the largest shareholder in EffJohn, which in turn ran Silja Line. A coincidence?

    • @TheShipChannel
      @TheShipChannel  10 днів тому +1

      Exactly, I don’t think there’s a coincidence at all, this was most likely their plan all along, and especially since Europa became extremely popular and an important vessel for the silja line

    Så tröttsamt att se ett fint fartyg liggandes i Nederländerna! Hoppas hon kommer tillbaka snart

      @@TheShipChannel Absolut, Tallink vill nog ha fartyget uthyrt så länge som möjligt. Det drar in mycket pengar att hyra ut fartyg. Men förhoppningsvis så kan Europa släppa loss från Nederländerna och åka tillbaka till Östersjön.

    Silja Symphony and Serenad are the best ships that go between Sweden and Finland. Silja Europe is hard to navigate in and everything is narrow other than one of the restaurants in the front.

    Your information is wrong. Silja Europa was not sold to Tallink. The entire Silja Line went.

      Sea Containers' financial position deteriorated at the end of 2004, mainly due to reasons other than Silja. The company drifted close to bankruptcy, and it announced that it would sell Silja Line by the summer of 2006. After the deadline for submitting preliminary offers, Tallink and Viking Line, among others, announced that they had made an offer for Silja.
      On June 12, 2006, Tallink from Estonia announced that it would buy Silja Line. Of the purchase price, Tallink paid 450 million euros in cash and 20 million euros in its own shares. Earlier in March, Tallink had acquired three ships of Superfast Ferries, which operates between Hanko and Rostock, for 310 million euros. After the acquisitions, Tallink had approximately EUR 800 million in debt. The purchase of Silja Line doubled Tallink's market share in Finland to approximately 40 percent.
      Tallink bought Silja only to ensure the approval of the traffic authorities to Sweden. The SuperSeaCats operating in Tallinn are kept by Sea Containers. In 2005, Silja Line transported 4.8 million passengers and Tallink 3.2 million passengers. The shipping companies' turnovers were 260 million and 470 million euros. At that time, the companies had a total of just under 6,400 employees. The Norwegian Color Line announced that it had offered about 700 million euros for Silja Line, but Tallink got priority in the transaction.

      Silja Line still exists and operates its ships within the Tallink group. Europa was at some point transferred to Tallink and received Tallink livery.

      @@hylje It's about the company, Silja is just an operating name anymore. The company number has been merged into Tallink.
