      Thanks Linnie!
      The biltong is a South African version of Beef Jerky basically. It's very tasty.

    From one of your nation's biggest sporting rivals, I have to admit that whatever you
    Aussies do, you do very well. Great vid. You have a new subscriber and supporter all the way over in Cape Town, South Africa.

      Wow. To hear that from a South African about a biltong video means a lot! Thank you!
      Also, I still think about Dale Steyn's 10 wicket haul at the MCG in 2008!

    Great Bolton recipe. I’ve been making Bolton for years. Biltongs my favorite besides your peanut butter and chocolate fudge.

      Yeah, it was really simple to make. I think if you live in an area where it's not too humid, you could easily make it without the box, too.

    I’m curious how you’ve improved on your process since you made this video. I’m not one to criticize your process, but I’m sure you’ve figured out some improvements by now. Greetings from a South African biltong maker in South Louisiana.

    This is the most popular snack my mates will have when camping. I wish I had room for a box. Where do you store your box, inside somewhere or outside?

      At the moment, because the novelty is so great, just in the dining room 😂.
      But later, I will keep it under the house.

    I apologies for my former comment, my intention was not to be rude. I too make biltong and have done for a long time, I am South African and passionate about it.
    Can I ask, why it is that you dry brine and wet brine the beef ?

      If you live in a relatively dry environment, you don't need the salt first. But I live in the tropics where it's very humid, and very hot. Even in winter, it's often above 30 degrees Celsius. I've found that if I don't salt first (to extract as much water as possible initially), and if I don't soak in the vinegar, it goes mouldy within a couple of days. Generally, it's safer to salt first, but not necessary if you're in a dryer, or cooler climate. For the purpose of the video, I chose to show how I did it, because even if someone doesn't "need" to salt first, it's not going to hurt them if they do, but if they don't, and they need to, then it could go very wrong for them and I don't have the balls to instruct them that way and suffer the wrath of someone in the middle of a bad bout of gastro.

    What is the watts of the bulb?

    • @UrbanSelfSufficiency
      @UrbanSelfSufficiency  Рік тому

      5 or 10. Must be very low... all you want to do is make the air in the box dry by creating enough of a temperature change to create airflow. You don't want the bulb to heat the air or meat hanging near.

    Do you want some meat with your salt?

    • @desocrate
      @desocrate 2 роки тому +1

      The salt is important, it helps to preserve the meat and prevent rotting. Source: I'm South African
