Hey! So I just bought a Chromebook C330 because I want to learn how to code and need a cheap option (got it for 250). I did learn that not all Chromebooks run Linux, but I haven't found a reliable list of CBs that do run Linux. I would also prefer switch back and forth between Linux and Chrome OS if possible. If it's not listed on the compatibility list, then you're out of luck. If you find one that is on the list, you could probably do a dual boot or something with Kali and CloudReady (downloadable ChromeOS) and have the results you're looking for, but you'll want to make sure the system has a bigger hard drive than most come with.

The john lewis website doesn't seem to have a firmware patch for my particular chromebook, so what are my options here? Everything else went smoothly (developer mode, enabling usb boot etc) and the bios menu is the only thing eluding me. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
@@DBTechYT I used Balena Etcher it seems to have flashed the hard drive correctly but the screen just stays saying "Booting from Hard Disk..." Any ideas? Its okay if not.
When creating a user and password it wouldn't let me create a root user. So I was only able to create a user for non administrative use. I am currently at a hotel with an open network, is this the reason?
Hi DB Tech, just started watching this vid, haven't finished it yet but I def want to try it out. I'm super new to both linux and Kali and I love breaking stuff. So I want to try this on my Google Pixelbook. I have the latest Kali on a USB. My hopefully not to dumb question is am I installing the .iso file?
Download from the kali website. Then use the Chromebook recovery tool to create the bootable USB if you're only using a chromebook. If you're using a computer then there are multiple programs to create the bootable USB.
Mine will work for a long time (months) and then suddenly stop booting into Linux. My configuration is a little wacky, because my chrome book is older, and only has 13GB of disk space which doesn't meet the space requirements for Kali which is at least 20GB. So instead Of basically follow these instructions and install Lubuntu instead. What I did was purchase a 256GB SD card and installed Kali onto there and dual boot into Kali using SeaBIOS on my Chromebook. Now, I said it works for a while and then stops working. I boot, I hit Ctrl + L, and a get a beep code of two short beeps. Last time this happened, I reinstalled chrome, and then reinstalled SeaBIOS (which is when I found out that a full install of SeaBIOS sn't an option for my model, so Dev mode screen is forever. Booo.) I also cracked it open and removed the write protect screw. Well it happened again. I THINK what is going on is grub bootloader is getting corrupted somehow??? Instead of doing the full install again I am going to just run a repair on grub and see if that resolved it (because I can't boot into SeaBIOS at all, I only get the Dev screen.) Please let me know if anyone else has bumped into this issue, or if this sounds familiar at all. I'll post updates as they come. Thanks!
People have asked me multiple times if it's possible to install on an SD card and I've always told them that they CAN, but I don't recommend it. This is why. Also, my Chromebook only had 16GB of hard drive space when I made this video and it installed just fine.
@@DBTechYT Understandable. I initially installed Kali directly onto it, and it quickly ran out of space, which is why I opted for dual boot, but if my chrome book has to be a Lubuntu device, then I guess so be it. Still haven't gotten around to trying to repair grub. Lazyyyyyy.

any time I try to run a command in crosh it asks for a password. but nothing I try works. are there any solutions for that?
gotta type shell i think
When creating a user and password it wouldn't let me create a root user. So I was only able to create a user for non administrative use. I am currently at a hotel with an open network, is this the reason?
Hi DB Tech, just started watching this vid, haven't finished it yet but I def want to try it out. I'm super new to both linux and Kali and I love breaking stuff. So I want to try this on my Google Pixelbook. I have the latest Kali on a USB. My hopefully not to dumb question is am I installing the .iso file?
No. You'll need to use a program like Balena Etcher to create a bootable USB from the ISO.
@@DBTechYT Yep I already have that. Thanks for the info.
Also, thank you for monitoring this video for so long. Over 3 years dude! That's awesome. Subscribed.
getting an error that rammus is currently not supported using this script
sir please help me my chromebookhad problem after powerwash failed to complete chroot setup😢😢😢😢😢
where can you download kali linux on your usb? pls answer
Download from the kali website. Then use the Chromebook recovery tool to create the bootable USB if you're only using a chromebook. If you're using a computer then there are multiple programs to create the bootable USB.
thanks man u have a new subscriber
Thanks!!
@DB Tech doing this with my friend
When I try to start shell it just says error: unknown command:shell, How do I fix this?
That error message means you're not in developer mode
It said error loading operating system when i select boot devices from usb.
So whenever I try to do sudo crossystem dev_boot_usb=1 dev_boot_legacy=1
It says please use dev_boot_altfw. Will that work or is something wrong?
Yeah, should work fine. I replaced what it was suggesting and it went through fine for myself.
Thanks for the help, but ive already figured it out and have downloaded multiple operating systems on my Chromebook, thank you for reaching out.
'm sorry that I did not use punctuation, but I installed kali 2019.4 and my volume and touchpad dont work. is their any way that I can fix it?
Install compatible drivers.
@@DBTechYT ok thanks.
Instead of doing the full install again I am going to just run a repair on grub and see if that resolved it (because I can't boot into SeaBIOS at all, I only get the Dev screen.)
Please let me know if anyone else has bumped into this issue, or if this sounds familiar at all.
Lazyyyyyy.
i tried this and everytime i do the command shell or the other command it just says error unkown command
You need switch to developer mode your chromebook
Will this work with parrot os?
Can you still use the chrome os side by side with this?
No. This removes ChromeOS
How do I install dmidecode? Says , please install it using your distro's package manager
Same
The link doesn't work for my chromebook what do I do it says grunt is not currently supported at all using this script
If it says it's not supported there's nothing you can do. It's not supported.
@@DBTechYT So does this mean Kali Linux cannot be installed on your system? I got the same “bloog is not supported at all using this script” if so that sucks I’m interested in learning about all of this
man i need your help asap, when i type in the sudo crossystem and everything it tells me “command not found” i don’t know what to do.
Means you aren't in developer mode
Does this work with an sd card
Firmware bug tpm interrupt not working polling instead it says when i boot into the hard disk and it stays like this id there and solution or am I out of luck.
There are SO Many pages of information about that here: lmgtfy.com/?q=Firmware+bug+tpm+interrupt+not+working+polling+instead I don't have time to look through all of it for you.
I get to the the bash command thing andthe message pops up i press enter and shows what would you like to do and underneath it say error: is not currently supported blah blah blah
"blah blah blah" doesn't tell me anything. Go watch this and try again: ua-cam.com/video/2mdoHQlZu8M/v-deo.html
Also, you probably have an ARM processor and this will only work on Intel processors.
Would this be considered retro now?
Why would it be considered retro? People comment all the time that it still works as long as your Chromebook is compatible.
good evening. grand master, i have done all the steps to install the kali. but when I try to access the boot to start the installation the pc does not start the boot, (what can I do)
I am using an Acer c710 that no longer receives updates
Grand master 🥴

My old Chromebook only has 4gb of storage. I have a 128gb flash drive though. Could I somehow put Kali on the flash drive then have it show on the Chromebook?
Only if you want to ALWAYS boot it as a LiveCD and never save anything.
@@DBTechYT Thanks a bunch! I'm subbing 👍
@@DBTechYT would always booting as a live process a time consuming process ?
