Very powerful lady right there. I’ve trained with many women in Shotokan. And it’s a pleasure and challenged to spar with. Even though I’m bigger, taller,and stronger. Some of them are pretty dangerous. As she is.

Im being honest here: I pactise Shotokan and recently learned that we dont have cat stance. That was a blow to my head. Ive been admiring Rikas kata´s (and other Gōjū-ryū practitioners katas). That would have been a motivator to me to continue if I would know that someday I can do this nice looking cat stance moves. But now when Ive studied it Shotokan has replaced cat stance to a lowed stance. I just hate it since I love cat stance. Im too afraid to ask my sensei that can I do cat stance instead of Shotokan low stance and they would probably tell me to go Gōjū-ryū school which I dont doesnt even exists in my area. So anyone who is a black belt in Shotokan, can we ever do Gōjū-ryū katas or is that totally forbidden and you are treated as a betraitor or can brown or black belts choose and take katas from another style, from Gōjū-ryū in my case? Gōjū-ryū katas are so much more beautiful and I love the estetics of it even thou I like Shotokan's extrely powerful attacks etc. I just would like to have the best of the both worlds... so, does anyone know this, or am I destined to do only low stances when Im in Shotokan.. Im really thinking about quitting just beacause of this stance issue since I love more than anything the estetics of karate. Im not looking how to learn to defend myseld/fight. I have a long background in different selfe defence styles so I already have a talent to defend myself very effectively. So I came to karate because those styles lacked the beauty of karate, especially Gōjū-ryū cat stance and more soft/round moves. Im not saying Shotokan katas all suck, but if I cant ever do cat stance and other Gōjū-ryū katas I have hard time to find reason to continue karate. I dont mind if I have to train only Shotokan katas until brown/black belt but after that I would like to have a freedom to choose from other styles.If this is not possible I might as well quit today. Thank you if anyone advanced karateka knows about this and is kind enough to answer if adcanced karatekas can take katas from different styles and do gradings with those?
Try and find out. Explore your ideas. Take up kata competitions and learn different versions of the same kata. People who do sports mix up styles. A person my be Shotokan but do the Shorinryu version of a kata for aesthetics. Cat stance does exist in Shotokan. It is in the Dynamic karate book by Nakayama. In kata they use back stance (kokutsu dachi) instead of cat stance (neko ashi dachi). They are similar. Purpose is to retreat. Cat stance is more nimble (spry) back stance is more grounded (strong). A stronger stance is more powerful striking but it seems you are implying that. No you can't do different versions of a kata in a traditional class but you can practice at home and experiment and cross train. In fact if you ask your sensei he probably would welcome a comparison of styles and probably knows the subtle differences between styles and can explain things. Never be afraid to ask your sensei for more instruction! He will be pleased you are showing such interest in learning!

After 30+ years budo experience, i see so much questionable things here ... it start alreadh with her belt ... that is a BRAND NEW one ... just for show? And her skills ... level green belt in our federation. That are dancing skills, no martial arts at all.
