Berry, you are the man! You are so correct, Mr. Berry Smith. What and why subnetting ? ! Everyone else --- EVERYONE on UA-cam --- rolls over that crucial question / topic / insight except you. Students know how to "mimic the numbers" as you say, but they lack an independent understanding. They cannot see the forest because there are too many trees. My light-bulb (admittedly dim) was activated by your observations. In sum, my humble and enthusiastic thanks to you. YOURS was the key video explaining WHY. Excellent. It's so much easier now (post Berry Smith video) to get into the weeds and understand splitting up addresses on the router for the reasons of (1) security; (2) organization; and (3) performance. THANK YOU. I subscribed and thumbs-up to you. I'm now heading to your playlists to see all the other vids you have in this networking area. I'm nominating you for an Oscar as Best UA-cam Tutor in a Crucial Technical Area. You are a certain winner!!
If you need to know more about subnetting and this is the first of Berry's videos you've come across, I STRONGLY advise you to watch all of his videos on this subject matter! Berry is a great teacher! I thought subnetting would be a subject I would never really be able to grasp based on how others have explained it. Then, I found Berry's videos and improved my knowledge greatly because of Berry. If you are reading this Berry, thank you so much for your help! :)
great explanation and simple explanation to get the concept right. When I talk to network admins to explain things, they kind of make things more complicated and does not want to share knowledge.. Hats off to Berry !
3 years ago i saw this video and that time I was so happy because he explained it very well. Now I'm watching this again coz I decided to pursue my career in networking
@@f44had I did avoid networking... To the point of dropping the class and taking project management instead. And I can still only BARELY explain subnetting ! 😳
Thank you for actually explaining what is in the first place. Instead of jumping from how we get a subnet mask, I would like to first know what the hell it's even for or why it exist.
Network management is also a good reason to mention here, which is related to the organizational structure of the company. I guess you could consider that under organization but we use the term network management quite often and I believe that it should be mentioned as a term or reason. Great presentation overall!
Although I watch most of the videos at 1.5 times of the original speed, I couldn't do it this time. I liked how you taught and made jokes in between and kept my attention till the end. It was magnificent.
I have seen more than an hour of Eli the computer guy videos over and over again, I didn't understand anything and Mr. Smith explained to us clearly in 8 minutes, Thanks.
Wow, I finally understand subnetting. I've been watching a whole bunch of other videos but this one is the one that helps me understand subnetting. Thank you!
Wow, thank you! Such a great and simple explanation. I had been scared away from even touching subnets and I knew there would be a decent explanation on UA-cam. I'm actually excited to watch your other videos!
Thank you, this is exactly the position I'm in right now. Doing an online course right now and the last hour or so has been "here's how to subnet and here's a quick way to subnet" without any explanation of wtf subnetting actually is or is used for. Exactly the video I needed!
Yes, very clear answer. You explained it well and it was easy to understand and remember. Where the reside on the OSI model was great information, Thank you!
Excellent video. As a software developing seeking to refresh my memory on basic networking concepts, I've found the content in this video to be very well balanced. Normally I don't bother commenting on videos, but I felt this was good (I've not watched the series) that it warranted a comment. Keep up the good work. Like most fields, there are people that excel within them but are lousy at transferring that knowledge over to others, especially if they learn slightly differently. Finding teachers that can pull that off are rare indeed.
I just discovered this channel. I am learning AWS and these explanations are another level. Hope you are doing good and will start to make more of these videos @Berry Smith !
I’ve watched so many videos on subnetting, and this is the only guy who bothered to actually explain what it is and why you would use it. I personally need to know the why to learn the how, so this was awesome.
Thanks..at my job I was asked to be a tech and I have had most of my experience in PC and software implementation. Recently our only network administrator quit - being the only tech there- now they have me trying to learn. They wont hire a network guy although we support over 600 people..I just started to jump in to even understand what subnettimg is..as I notice many folks on different subnets but definitely its disorganized at the moment from your video
This dude explained a topic in 8 mins what my college proff couldn't in a semester.
saved my ass on my exam
That is so weird that's exactly what ran through my mind and then I looked down to see your comment lol
UA-cam is about to start its own university if it was smart
He lost me at pizza
@@1rickslater ur crazy bro
Did my man just damn near draw a perfect circle without a compass????
he is good
I'm glad I wasn't the only one mesmerized by that circle😅 I couldn't help but stare at the perfectly connected endpoints 🤭
he must really love pizza
Yeah, and when he drew the slice lines, they intersected perfectly in the middle!!! Haha pretty knarly!
He could probably throw a knife and drop a crow at 50 yards______
Give this man a raise! It kills me when professors don't explain THE WHY when explaining concepts. This is so helpful, thank you.
I felt this
Fr! My instructor has us on video modules talking about some 1111.1111 business without the basics. 🥹
Why all professors are same😢
I actually Had this guy as a teacher/director of my networking course. He is far more amazing in person..
Where is he teaching at?
Can he eat a pizza in one sitting though?
Damn right I can. Can't you tell? Are 1 or 12 in one sitting.

Straight and clear cut explanation unlike many text books tutorials that are too technical.

I don't know which one I applaud more. His elegant explanation of the topic, or that his freehand circle and sectoring drawing! Both are excellent!

Finally, someone who knows how to explain IT concepts in a simple way…Great content!!!
Basic but powerful explanation. I really appreciate your knowledge sharing. Thank you so much!!!!!
after reading 1 whole chapter for this i now understand it more clearly! thank you for your direct concept.
Well done! I knew it must be easier that these other fellows made it seem. Some can explain simply, and some cannot; it’s a gift. You have it.
wow! it was like a piece of Pizza.. wonderful explanation of subnetting!! Thanks for making it so simple to understand.
Very good explanation of Subnets - thank you for putting it in plain English!
Flawless execution sir. I tip my hat in your general direction!
Thank you for taking the time.! As you said most people skip this crucial part. Things make more sense to me now.
great explanation and simple explanation to get the concept right. When I talk to network admins to explain things, they kind of make things more complicated and does not want to share knowledge.. Hats off to Berry !
Awesome video that explains a complex concept in less than ten minutes
You really got it to the point and explained the most important question... WHY SUBNET?
Thank you so much for this video!
Subbed!
Excellent lesson! Thanks for explaining, helps with my IT studies. Nice freehand circle by the way
I always come back to this before an interview! The best subnetting video there is!

Wonderful explanation. With that real life pizza example learning became more concrete and easy to remember. Thank you.

Thank you very much for a nice breakdown of the subnetting and its benefits. That pizza analogy is brilliant.
Thank you. As a non network person this answered my question beautifully.

that's a nice ass circle.
Thank you. I liked it as well.
I was thinking the same, damn. I wish I could drop such a good circle without thinking much about it.
Berry Smith also, thanks for the tutorial! It helped me understand the concept! Cheers.
I was thinking the same thing lmao
I dont understand how people like you do this. My circles are always lop sided.
