I think the situation is a little more complex. Companies exist as an indirect consequence of the relationship between the citizen and the state. Big statement, I know. A company is essentially a license to provide goods and services produced by people who's liability is limited by a legal structure. Pretty well essential in a capitalist society. Then government gets even more involved with the provision, of grants, guarantees for loans, or even direct investment. Could XR protestors be complaining about this relationship within the fossil fuel industries? Would they be protesting if those same subsidies were not being cut wholesale to renewable energy producers? Are they protesting about capitalism its self?
