I remember back in early 80s we had a new doctor come to Okeechobee. They had a fair size boat and went from north end towards clewiston but the weather turned rough. It was in the winter and was pretty cold. A front was moving thru and the weather turned rough and they hit that reef. None of them survived that . The wind blew a couple of the bodies miles from the wreckage site.

Could they not put markers up warning boaters about this?

It is called McMillan Cross. The cross is for my Dad and Uncle who lost their lives on the lake. Gerald and George McMillan. Some maps will show the cross, some won’t. The cross was put there by my Family 45 years ago. It goes directly through the reef.

I been fishin around that bar in the past. There are spots that used to have dead trees on it. But im sure the hurricanes last few years took those away. Been about 5 yrs since i been down there.

He should be safe in that shallow part, but still better safe than sorry. Gators everywhere, especially where the water is murky.

Yeah, be nice if he explains exactly where it is. I’ll bet he is at the Clewiston channel leading out into the lake.
