Whew! This was a beast to put together, but so much fun. What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you think you will ever age out of gaming? Did you enjoy this new format? Please let me know, I can't wait to hear from you!
I don’t like the topic just because it saddens me…but love your video! I can tell the work that went into it, I wish I could make videos like you! I wish I could be of some use to you haha nice job man, really dig your work!
My Dad is over 70 years old and he loves his Horizon Zero Dawn, his Elder Scrolls Online, his Witcher III, and other games. Even after his stroke three years ago he fought back and can play again. He finished Tales of Arise and Final Fantasy 16 in the last year. I am very, very proud of him - my Mom loves to watch the story and if he cannot reach some complicated jumping sequence, I am here to help. He is one of my biggest inspirations for playing video games. It is important to have fun. It's less a question of skill, I think. Okay, he will never play a Souls game, but he loved Ghost of Tsushima. And so: You need to find games that are good for you and are fun for you. May video games live on forever! :D
He had to work very hard beforehand with doctors and stuff but I am just glad he can still play games. I think it would be devastating for him to not be able to play anymore which is something I fear a bit.@@thegamersician
True. It helps people quit drugs, alcohol, gambling, and even being needy with women. I've seen it help guys rebuild their lives. They just set goals in the real world and make time for video games as the world they prefer to live in. They also cut out all toxic people from their lives.
Ayeeee appreciate you watching homie! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm right behind you and it is nice having the resources to just own whatever. I still love games, but it's definitely 'different' than it used to be. And that's okay. My love is a little different now
Same...I'm a 38 yr old female and I still enjoy gaming. I'm a casual gamer though but I love my single player action/adventure and fps games. Now getting into street fighter 6, my first street fighter game ever 😊😊
I am 51 years old. I started playing video games when there was only "Tennis" two bars that moved up and down with a ball ... square! Now listening to the video I found myself in many places. I've never liked fast games, beat 'em ups etc. and I've always focused on slow and immersive adventure / horror. My children, on the other hand, play at full speed, but when we play a game together, they are always happy to help me. I made them discover the old video game schools and they really enjoy it. For me it is also a relief and relaxation valve for my daily routine, as I work with dementia or psychiatric patients (I'm a social health worker). I've found many cues in video games to allow me to empathize with them and I'm happy with it. Now I'm in the phase of looking for a story in a video game and fortunately there is material. For example Death Stranding has made me play about 800 hours since it came out, It's a game that relaxes me and reconciles me with myself, but at the same time it allowed me to "connect" even better with real life. Are you too old to play? No, because as Pablo Picasso said, "It takes time to become young"...
Thank you so much for weighing in! I'm 36 so I'm still a ways from 50, but I totally understand using games to start to "slow down" more. I still really enjoy Souls-likes, hard games, etc.- but I can see a time where I will lean more and more into my favorite puzzlers and more chill games. So interesting you really loved Death Stranding. I haven't tried it yet, but it makes sense that it's a very mellow game. People knock walking simulators, but if you want to just relax and take in the scenario, movement, management, etc., it makes total sense! What types of games do you play with your kids?
@@thegamersician So, when I play with them we are on Minecraft, some racing/football game or very very simple shooters. When they play with me, we are on Resident Evil (old generation) or puzzle game or escape room :) Here I agree with you, I love playing old games that have made my history as a gamer and nobody takes them away from me; Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Soul Reaver, Final Fantasy ecc :)
Ugh, Soul Reaver! If there was ever a game that needed a loving remake, it's that one. I really wish Crystal Dynamics (do they still exist???) would get on it! Thank you for your comments :) Hopefully your gaming continues for 51 more years!
I'm turning 30 this year, and after two years of working full time and being in graduate school, having almost no free time for myself, I'm still struggling to get back into video games like I was before. Last year, the only games I really played were Stray and Pokemon Scarlet. I do play Minecraft almost weekly with a friend, at least. What really has taken my interest and time away from video games, though, is Dungeons and Dragons. I'm just so invested in the social, cooperative, and storytelling experience of a tabletop roleplaying game like D&D. It's lit a fire of creativity in me that I haven't had since high school, and because of that it's hard to find interest in most video games which are much more specific and curated experiences that I can't exercise that kind of creativity with. Maybe I won't ever go back to being the kind of gamer I was before grad school and D&D, but I think video games will still be a staple hobby regardless. Just might be pickier about what games I buy and play.
It's so funny how a lot of our stories are the same. You're going through a very similar scenario as me in my mid to late 20s. But instead of D&D, I was making music. Producing, rapping, playing shows, working on my record label with my homies... And that was my creative outlet. After my last album in 2016, I felt I was ready to get back into gaming. This channel finally relit my creative spark. My main take away from this video and the process of making it? Be okay with the ebbs and the flows of gaming consumption. Everything changes. You may come back harder than ever one day. Thanks for watching!
Why limit yourself with anything you can do. I'm 72 and love all open world games like GTA5, RD2, Assassin's Creed Valhalla and many others. Gaming keeps your mind sharp. The worst thing is getting killed by a hacker or kid with an AR-15. Forget poles and explore new lands with amazing graphics. If you like gaming never stop. The meaning of life is to be happy.
There have been several points in my life where I thought I had outgrown games, but than a few years later and I found myself enamored with them again. So I'm reluctant to ever say I've fully outgrown gaming. However, at 42 I don't game like I use to for a myriad of reasons. I do it more socially now than anything else. Great video by the way, man.
I totally feel what you're saying. I figured after college when I slipped out of gaming, that I'd be done. But it always keeps calling me back. Even as I take sort of "micro" breaks, there's a game on the horizon I get super excited about and makes me want to fire up my console or PC again. Really appreciate you checking the vid, and hope you get to look around a bit more! Editing a video as we speak-- hopefully up tomorrow, but if not it'll be up on Weds.
I feel this video in my soul! I'm about to turn 41 yrs old. Been a gamer since I first held an Atari 2600 joystick when I was 1 year old. Now, I have my family (wife and 2 kids) and time for gaming has definitely changed over the years. I put more thought into which games I play and sometimes, completely pass on a game simply because I don't think I will have the time to truly put into it. Love playing games with my kids (10 and 5 yr olds). Getting them into the games I grew up with is amazing. Wouldn't trade it for the world. That said, sometimes, I just need some time to play a game that I want to complete and enjoy the time put into it. And now running a gaming UA-cam channel, it actually gets trickier. Picking which games to stream or record for a video takes time and thought. I enjoy it SO much, but it certainly comes with work and effort that must be put into it. I will be a gamer my entire life and wouldn't have it any other way. Absolutely LOVED this video! Such an awesome topic to cover. Really well done!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I am childless which definitely relieves some of the pressure, but there's just sooo much to get done! And yes.... covering games makes it harder in a lot of ways... but for me, it was almost necessary to commit to a game. I started my channel to sort of "force" myself to actually be thoughtful and finish games lol I was in a space where I'd play a game for like an hour or two, dump it, then move on. Not that there's anything wrong with that, per se- but I wanted to continue to make progress and complete games I was interested in. So I do spend a lot of time mulling over which game to play (since I'm more than likely doing it to cover for the channel), but it all leads to me trying new games, and actually finishing them- see: Kingdom Hearts I and II. No seriously... see those videos, they're great hahaha. Thanks for checking it out, and I'm glad this video resonated with you!
I find myself being a lifelong gamer. It’s those stresses of life, or life changing decisions, like you mentioned, that remain an obstacle to that hobby. But regardless, I make time where I can!
Whoa, I didn't know you picked up gaming later! Was it specifically to get into VR? And yea, I was way better at games when I was younger 😅. I do think more of it comes down to how MUCH I played back in the day vs. some sort of physical decline... but it's honestly probably a LOT from column A, a little from column B lol
I’m not a gamer, but I have one in my house. It’s complete addiction and at the age of 19 with little social skills. Interaction online is not real, it’s what you want to be real. Not my child and the mother doesn’t want to “hurt his feelings” and I hope isn’t past the point of no return. Screaming at a screen and acting like a badass from pressing buttons is mind blowing to me. Casual play is fine but disconnecting that much from reality destroys all of the skills you address. Thanks for the vid.
Oh certainly. Like anything that can be good, too much can be bad. I think a life without balance and utter obsession over any single thing is probably an issue, outside of rare exceptions (pro athletes or musicians for example). I used to play a LOT more videogames as a kid and young adult and, at 37, am highly successful both in my career and in general. So I'd say they'll probably be fine as long as reality isn't totally lost on them. Thanks for watching!
Some very interesting thoughts and the facts you presented were definitely both expected and unexpected. I like this form of informative video alongside the other type of videos also. Another great video brother! Day One gang!
This was a seriously fantastic video. I like seeing that you're experimenting around with different video styles, this was a really good one. Great work man.
Yooo I really appreciate that, my friend! I haven't forgotten about ya. Just trying some different stuff. I'm glad that you enjoyed it. If you have any other topics you'd like me to tackle, I'm all ears!
@@thegamersician I'll think about that! The first thing that comes to mind is (I feel like me and you would probably be the right person to talk about) the perception of video game music overtime in mainstream society, and the impact of video game music on the whole media industry.
I'm 28 now and it's been definitely hard to keep up with gaming (compared to when i was a kid). But, I can appreciate being at the age now where i better enjoy how games are made and games i would not have touched as a kid when i was more actively playing
Oh yea, for sure. I'll be 37 this year and I appreciate my gaming time so much more now. And you definitely appreciate the art. It's also a lot harder to be impressed by BS lol. I am always afraid to replay older games I loved because it might reveal they aren't actually that great!
This is a fantastic video. Well produced, philosophical, thought provoking, and well considered. I liked every second. As for fighting games, I've actually found the older I get the more I like them because they're one of the few games left that still do local gaming which helps me appreciate them even more. So I can show up to a local weekly fg meet up for a few hours, have some fun, and leave. I don't have to be Daigo to enjoy them! I've found with online it's impersonal. Offline I can ask some questions and we can bond, so it's more social and fun. Getting bopped online is tedious and often you don't learn anything. Getting bopped offline can be a fun night with the fellas. I get your points, though!
Thanks man! And that's a great point i/r/t fighters. I think my main issue is lack of in-person playing. Online is great when the competition is stiff but outside of those rare matches, I hate it
Appreciate the video. I’m 27 and gaming is not the same as before as like you said, 9-5 job, got a wife, household responsibilities and just don’t have enough time like I used to. Thankfully I developed new friends in which we still play a lot online, we mostly play call of duty or rocket league, but I don’t get invested into a single player story mode game unless I’m major interested. I find myself buying new games cause there’s a sweet deal on ps store but I never bother to even play it. I still don’t have kids and I fear the day me and the homies can no longer get together and play. I guess it’s part of life but I hope I can get to play video games till the day I die.
Really appreciate the feedback, fam. It's sometimes intense how our lives change, but while gaming hasn't ALWAYS been a constant in my life - I'm glad that at 38 (this week!) I've found my way back, and a fun way to continue the love. Thanks for watching 👏🏾
@@thegamersician congrats! Happy birthday man. I literally just found your channel and watched this video. You talked about the 3 different aspects and you explained in a way I could never and it’s true. I used to play pretty damn good in call of duty, I mean I wasn’t the type of player to kill 100 and die 3 times but I could get 60 kills and die 15-20 times which I think it’s pretty damn good. Me and my buddies just play warzone and man there’s just people that are too good, it’s like they’re cheating. I play video games to relieve stress but them boys make my blood pressure high and I just can’t keep up. We play it cause we are competitive and we like the game but it’s frustrating a lot of times and I prefer a single player game like God of war, the last of us, Marvels Spiderman. Games like those don’t come every single time so I can’t invest that much time in a game like I used to unless it’s of that caliber you know. I recommend watching the video “why it’s so hard to find a game that you like” it was a good watch.
I've seen that vid! Great stuff. Also, I feel you with that other stuff. That was me with fighting games. Never got into CoD but I used to play competitive Third Strike and other fighters. Placed in a couple little tournaments. But now I can't carve that time out to really git gud like that. Now I'm a super solitary gamer too. Lots of single player stuff. But even that I gotta be resourceful with. No more long JRPGs like I used to play in my youth
Just stumbled on your channel. Great video and it's cool seeing more brothas speaking on topics like this. I'll be 45 this year. Been playing video games since I was around 4 or 5. I'm an arcade and console collector and have been collecting since the mid-90s when I was in high school. While I don't really play much anymore, I still love to dust off my old consoles from time to time. Although, I do feel like my reflexes and reaction time isn't as good anymore. Been divorced for almost 12 years and have no children, so, feeling like a free slave, at this point. Lately, have been focused more on working out and dropping weight and there are times where I think about parting with pieces of my collection. Either way, it will always be a part of me.
Peace to you, bro! Appreciate the kind words. And I totally feel you- nearing 40, and been gaming since I was about 5 or 6. I'm not much of a collector, but I do love games. I just find it harder and harder to sit and game for long periods of time like I used to. I'd toss 4 or 5 hours at a JRPG back in the day. Now I can set aside maybe 60, 90 mins. And of course these games just get longer and longer so then I end up going to play something short, sweet, and familiar. Definitely stay active my dude! Fitness has been a big part of my life, with 25 years of martial arts and many years of lifting under my belt. Hoping not to slow down until I really have to. What is your favorite piece in your collection? Hope you get to enjoy more content- new stuff coming soon. Been pretty lazy to start this year. Need to get on my Ps and Qs
That's awesome with the lifting and martial arts. That's great you've stayed active. In my case, I was damn near 380 lbs and at only 5'7". That was ridiculous. I'm down about 90 lbs and have a long way to go, and that has been the main focus over gaming lately. Trying to live a little bit longer. I salute you on the JRPGs. I never really got into RPGs, in general, because they are long, as you said, but that's dedication. I have always been more into fighting games and then shooters but, lately I have found myself going back to my older consoles and classic arcade titles. Pick up and quick play is what's for me I suppose these days. You asked about my favorite piece in my collection and that would be my Neo Geo AES. I'm a huge fan of SNK going back to when I was a kid playing their NES arcade ports. Looking forward to seeing more of your content. Take care my brother.
@thegamersician it's all good. Appreciate the encouragement, bruh. I gained a little bit back mainly due to diet but, getting myself together and back to my routine. You know it's the black man trifecta that I am battling, obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Gotta get it together.
Great video, man! This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I've always leaned more towards competitive gaming, and not having the hours to play and mechanical skill I used to have is frustrating for sure. I think finding games that still scratch that competitive itch but aren't as mechanically intensive, like card games, has been big for me. I still love gaming though, and it'll always be a part of my life in whatever form it may take!
Ayyyy, my dude! Thank you for watching. Definitely something I've thought about a lot myself (obviously). I *USED* to be pretty competitive- playing stuff like Third Strike and whatnot in tournaments. They just take so. much. time. And once my friends dispersed, I sort of stopped gaming entirely for about 5 years. My relationship with gaming has changed, but this channel was a catalyst to stick with them. I think it has stayed a great motivation to finish stuff. Thanks for weighing in. Hope y'all are doing well!
I feel seen. Ive turning 40 and actually making a return to gaming after college. Introducing video games to my son has been rewarding. And visiting my old favorites made me realize that video games are like music. You enjoy your era and dont have to get into the new stuff. My kid has a blast with Nintendo 64 and gamecube just th3 same
You ARE seen! And welcome back to gaming. I'm so glad your kids have an activity to share with you like this. Gaming is for all ages and that's awesome that you get to show them the media that made you ♥
58 years old and still playing. I never was particularly competitive but FPS were a secondary love for me in the classic CoD era. Nowadays I mainly play a survival game with my pre-teen daughter. Conan Exiles is quality time we share. I taught her to game on PC. I'm selective about newer games due to time constraints. I love learning a new Total War in different historic settings. I hope to never quit. It's good for the grey matter plasticity.
That's so awesome that you and your daughter get to bond over gaming. I feel like for those with children, this will be the way they game for the rest of their lives. First kids, then grandkids! I don't have children, but getting to play games with my friends' children is always so fun. I introduced MK8 to a friend's 6 year old and now they pull out their old Gamecube at home for him to play. I think gaming is such an amazing way to bridge gaps between generations, and to get the younger folks excited about the classics!
@@thegamersician Thank you for the thoughtful reply. Your hard work paid off in an informative video. Viewers can tell you did your research and provided several angles to your topic. Excellent work! I'm a new sub. I am an older dad too. I went through half my adult life assuming I'd never bring children into this world. Never "assume"... As the old saying goes. Meeting the right younger woman helps too.
My partner actually was the one that did the research! She's a doctor and a researcher haha. So I would be remiss not to give her lots of props there :) Glad you enjoyed the video, and hope you enjoy some more content!
If you're too old to enjoy playing video games you're too old to enjoy ANYTHING. You don't need anyone but yourself to play a game. You don't have to interact with anyone. Which means it's nobody's business but your own. Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise, they're just insecure and/or superficial.
Well now I feel old haha but I’ll play games until I cannot any longer for whatever reason! I did play competitive games at a pretty high level Neil recently just not liking the direction of it (Overwatch) but never been very good at fighters period. I’ll play SF6 though! Just for fun, I’m real bad. But I love games!
Hahaha let's play some SF6! I used to play Third Strike semi competitive in tourneys myself... But I haven't really gotten into a fighter much since. I DID get into the new Samurai Shodown for a minute but then online got too jank so I stopped. Do you still play Overwatch? Or you're done with that?
Really interesting.. I watched the whole video unusually, and then I realized I have work tomorrow and its too late to have that 30 minutes gaming session T_T
My dude this video is 🔥 love the content and the way you broke down gaming. I’m 36 and I enjoy still gaming from SuperNintendo, ps1 ps2 Xbox 360 Xbox 1 and back to ps5 gaming will never end. And that’s being a truck driver with a wife 3 daughters and a house to take care of keep dropping great content 👊🏾✊🏾
That's the best compliment I can get, my guy! Really appreciate the love. I'm 37 (and childless), but like I said in the vid- I definitely went through a period where gaming fell out of my life. But now that I got this channel and my love for gaming back, I hope it never leaves me. We all go through seasons, but I've been doing this for (most of) the last 30 years at this point, so I'm a gamer forever. Stay safe out there on the road bro! Hope you get to check out more content.
@@thegamersician no doubt bro! And I did to which is crazy to think how that could have happened, I’m not sure if it was what a may have been going thru at the time or just fell out of the love for it. But just like you I’m back in the saddle thanks again my man and be safe out here as well I definitely will check out more of your content 👊🏾
I can no longer cope with the complexity of games and I’m no longer excited to overcome these difficulties and I just quit them without completing them. yeah, I'm getting too old for them
I'll probably never move on from gaming. It was never an escape for me, like many - just fun. I don't enjoy multiplayer, and I don't see the need to play games on the most difficult setting anymore. Though I love Souls games strictly for the setting and lore. Back in the day, I certainly did bust my ass playing the hardest games. Now, I can't really say that I'm any worse (I'm 35), but I don't enjoy being frustrated in any way. I think it helps me 'complete' something as I work towards long-term goals in my life.
At almost 40. I game now more than I ever did as a kid. Or even in my 20s. When I was young there weren't as many games to play. And we didn't have a console in the house, just pc. Screen time was pretty limited when sharing 1 pc with 6 other people. In my 20s I had some good gaming marathons. But they never got in the way of college or work. In my 30s I have probably done the most gaming. I work 9-5. But outside of my job and kids I don't have a lot going on. I don't enjoy TV. My wife goes to bed early for work. And generally we are just stuck at home most of the time. So not really a whole lot of other things to do outside of household responsibilities. Which generally only take a couple hours most nights. Often I get 4-6hrs of gaming in each night.
When my reflexes started to suck, I started to find more enjoyment in strategy and stealth type games. Deus Ex (specifically HR and MD), the Fallout games (specifically 3, NV, and 4) are personal faves of mine because they have features that allow me to either use stealth or pause/slow the combat. Just remember that, just because your reflexes are going to crap, doesn't mean that it's the end of gaming for you. Also, the games that'll be affected will be games that require fast reflexes such as oldschool 2D platformers (think "Sonic The Hedgehog") and stuff like that while newer games are, moreso, hit or miss depending on the mechanics. Muscle memory can helps a little bit but I think it gets a bit too much credit, if I'm being honest. YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO GAME!
Totally. I am still- oddly- quite good at Soulsborne and Souls-likes, but I find what takes a lot of work for me is to acclimate to new control schemes. Once I HAVE, I feel about as good as ever. I was replaying Sonic Mania though and WTF that game is HARD lol. GAMING FOREVERRRR
I am 35, a gamer, I have a family and I still game, but I understood, that I can't play too much games that I cant put on pause(like Dark Souls, Online games from which Street Fighter 6 is my go to), and my gaming diet constantly changes. Lately enjoy playing Electrician Simulator, just to learn something about electricity. But in my storage there is PS1, PS2, PS3 and sega genesis that I keep to give away to my kid, just because everything will be digital and just to show how we used to game. 😀
Hahaha totally. I'm 38 and childless, but even without kids shit is just DIFFERENT. I miss my in person fighting games but I've since moved from my hometown and even if I hadn't - 90% of my guys have kids now too lol. Love that you're passing along some of the greats to your kiddos!
When I turned 31 I decided to do two things, start college and start playing games again and become a capital G gamer. This plan didn't work out so well with school, work, and being a single mother. Now at 36 I still don't have much time to play, but I love how I feel when I get the chance to, so I will continue my gaming journey. Maybe once my son is older, I can be like one of those Call of Duty Grandmas😅
I’m 52. Started out on TV game “consoles” with paddle controllers and 8bit micros. My dad in his late 70s is also still clocking solid hours on Microsoft Flight Simulator. Like you point out, things change. I play much fewer titles, less often and focus on games that have a clear progression path and can support pick up and play sessions. I.e. games that value my time. Other than that its business as usual and yes, I can still keep up in multiplayer Monster Hunter 😅
Totally, Value: Time is the most important equation for me with games, these days. Ooo man, maybe you can get me back into MH! I think I mentioned my love of Freedom Unite in this video, but damn... idk if I have 500+ hours anymore! Thanks for watching!
As I got older my game genres changed. I now longer have time to grind fps shooters or rpgs. Now I play fighting games and adventure games like uncharted, tomb raider etc. Since they are easier to pick up even if you stop playing for a week
I totally feel that. I used to be almost 85-90% RPGs and fighting games, but oddly enough, I've fallen off almost entirely on fighters (since I was a very social FG player), and RPGs I've only RECENTLY come back around to because they do so well on my channel. But most of the games I play are shorter indies, or ones that I can just pick up and play, then drop if I need to. Age definitely impacts HOW we game, but I don't think it should impact that we do it. Hopefully we all keep gaming as long as it continues to serve our interests!
Good video. I was always curious about what the stats have been on that... but not enough to chase it. 😂 And for years, people would avoid the subject - just not into it. After Pong came out, I was hooked. Couldn't get enough of Atari, and played anything I could get my hands on after that. I did stop for a time, what with kids and work. As a single mom later, there just wasn't a lot of time, like you said. And not much money, either! 😅 As most overworked people do, I crashed pretty hard (multiple disabilities now). Had a lot of time on my hands after the kids got into Jr high and high school. I had taught them how to clean up after themselves, so my chores weren't so bad. Just had to readdress things for their disabilities. What better time to take it up again? 🤷🏼♀️ My brother hooked me up to a Beta game, and it was on from there. Anyway, 4 generations of gamers in this family, ages 13-80. It's been quite a ride. 😂 Friends from the past drifted away when they found I was too busy being married, but a very few stayed to game for a bit when I did TTRP. Some of my kids are in the 30-40 range, and still play first person shooter games. They have a very few friends online. Small circle, but committed. My skill level flows with whatever issues I'm having that day, but I have some pretty good moments when I'm not embracing fall damage and lava baths... I do agree that age has caused me to lean more towards slower games, but I still like some of the shooter genre. I think it just depends on the person, I guess... 😂
Thank you for sharing your story! I suppose like most things in life, gaming will always have an ebb and a flow to it. I'm glad gaming stayed in your life and that it helps you unwind and stay close to friends. That's what it's all about. 💯
Played first console game Oct. 2013 (controller was steep learning curve-my teacher still has flashbacks 🫣), played second console game 2015, played same game from 2013 on PC around 2016 (same steep learning curve with “wasd”, but self-taught until I was able to rise above the level zero that Po the Kung Fu Panda started at…now at level one…DO NOT have me on a combat team. 😆). Few games interest me since blood/gore/ugly not my thing, but can do combat with controller-surprisingly have aggressive berserker side. Games can teach you more about yourself than you learn about them. Next game challenge-learning to fly the F4-Phantom-SO ready for this!! ⚔️
Yea, me either. Not really. I might periodically, but it seems more of a novelty than an actual way to play :( What is the reason for that? Lack of time? Or just no motivation?
At 46 years of age I feel less under pressure. People no longer confront me with nonsensical social expectations. They see a grown up man and realize I got my experience and can't be bothered anymore. I can do whatever I want. Again. And play video games until I leave this planet forever. I have learned to ignore most people biases and develop my own steady personality. Whenever people say stupid things about video games I see their problems popping through their eyes and wonder what else went wrong in those poor lives.
I was having a chat with my partner the other day about just this. My favorite part about getting older is just not giving a f*** lol. You just do what you want to do, and really...that's it. Once that personality becomes more hardened, you really find what you love! For me, that's been pretty consistent: Gaming, making music, and martial arts. Glad you're gaming on! 🫡
I avoided pvp gaming long before I was past my gaming prime. Gaming has always been escapism for me, so I leaned into single player experiences. I got my socials from talking about games rather than coop haha Another great video from you! Keep gaming gamer 😁
Oh I definitely spent MOST of my time playing games on an island. I was always an offline guy. My only co-op games were really fighters and some couch co-op such. I still hate online 😂 😂 Thanks for weighing in, Sushi!
There are, IMHO, two kinds of gamers: -Those that need to play the latest, hottest games either competitively or for streaming ($) .The Kids -Those who play for fun, health or just want a good moral story. Balance work/family with game. Mature, or US😊 (BTW, 55 here. No f'n shame included)
55! Love that. I hope I'm still gaming then 💪🏾 Also, yes... We are #2! Let them have the latest and greatest. I play my share of those too but really only the single player, mostly.
Very insightful. Many things you said clicked for me, given my background in psychology and experience with gaming. Do you have any social games you would recommend to someone who is seeking out those feelings of relatedness and community you discussed?
Thank you so much for the kind words! My partner who is a researcher did... The research lol I digested it but she provided me the academic articles. For suggestions, I'd say games like Animal Crossing, Minecraft and a recent favorite of mine - Helldivers. Hope you get to enjoy some more content 👏🏾
I am 40 and I am going to say...no, no I am not too old. Never too old to game. Although I have three games I bought months ago and have not even played yet.
@@thegamersician Oh no, sorry it was not meant to be a criticism of your video, I watched it and agreed with it. I was attempting to be light-hearted commented. Sorry that it didn't come across that way.
A. I made this in early 2023 B. There's not that much research on this topic, so we got what we got And C. Most research in fields such as this are considered sound for about 10 years, so remind me to remake it in 2026
No worries, man! I think you'll find my analysis thorough and my findings to align with your experience. Just have to get the people riled up. UA-cam 101 😂
So my birth year starts w/19, I'm officially genX. I play vgames and run my states scholastic esports league, so vgames are a large part of my life.....yep black female genx.
I love that! Do you mind me asking which state? Feel free to shoot me an email if you'd prefer, as I'm always looking for more black gamers to connect with: contact@thegamersician.com Or feel free to add/message me on any social platform, too!
@thegamersician I honestly feel like Gta6 is the last hope we gamers have at getting a good game with no real-world agendas or politics forced in it. If it fails to deliver, I'm done, and many others will be as well. The gaming industry has compromised and conformed to the "woke mind virus," and the gamers are done
Maby Im slightly slower in the hands but newer generations are worst gamers overall, they have no strategy no self preservation. they run out in the open like they have fortnite levels of health. sure the professional young ones are at the top but give even them a team game or one that requires strategy, or worst for them any shooter which is one hit kills and they can be outsmarted by anyone over 25.
Absolutely. Ultimately, this video concludes there's no wrong age to game! Things always change but there are so many benefits to playing games well into our later years.
if somebody can play solitaire then they're perfectly capable of playing videogames no matter what age. If the video addresses this, then the title is wrong, and if it doesn't then I don't need to watch.
So if I don't game should I just switch my brain off and watch TV or should I interact with a game and use my brain? I think the latter is the best option.
🙏🏾 I feel that! I'm amazed there are still people that think there's an expiration on gaming. Like you said, what's the difference between that and staring at a TV the way most of them do? At least gaming stimulates your senses!
Whew! This was a beast to put together, but so much fun. What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you think you will ever age out of gaming?
Did you enjoy this new format?
Please let me know, I can't wait to hear from you!
Loving this format and want more!
loved it mah keep them coming 🦾
I'll bring this back! I got some other ideas 🤔
Appreciate you fam! More to come
I don’t like the topic just because it saddens me…but love your video!
I love that! I'm glad he's using gaming as recovery. I think I mentioned that in passing in the video I think 🤔
He had to work very hard beforehand with doctors and stuff but I am just glad he can still play games. I think it would be devastating for him to not be able to play anymore which is something I fear a bit.@@thegamersician
Respekt to your father 😊👍
Your dad sounds awesome
@@natecorrea9536 He is. :) I will tell him you said that. It will make his day. :D
In the past most men just went to bars and drank alcohol , all while gambling away their income. Gaming is a much better hobby.
Facts 💯
True. It helps people quit drugs, alcohol, gambling, and even being needy with women. I've seen it help guys rebuild their lives. They just set goals in the real world and make time for video games as the world they prefer to live in. They also cut out all toxic people from their lives.
Loved this video. I’m a 38 year old gamer and I’m still in love with it. And now I have the money to buy everything.
We ain’t to old to game, we just seasoned
You aint never lied my friend!
When they play with me, we are on Resident Evil (old generation) or puzzle game or escape room :)
Here I agree with you, I love playing old games that have made my history as a gamer and nobody takes them away from me; Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Soul Reaver, Final Fantasy ecc :)
No limits over here. Keep doing your thing 👏🏾
Badass! Looking forward to getting my game on well into later life 😀
There have been several points in my life where I thought I had outgrown games, but than a few years later and I found myself enamored with them again.
But regardless, I make time where I can!
same fam! Gamer 4 Life!
I’m an adult who’s basically new to gaming. I’m really enjoying it! But I’m also shocked at how good some of these little kids are. I can’t keep up 😅
Whoa, I didn't know you picked up gaming later! Was it specifically to get into VR?
And yea, I was way better at games when I was younger 😅. I do think more of it comes down to how MUCH I played back in the day vs. some sort of physical decline... but it's honestly probably a LOT from column A, a little from column B lol
@@thegamersician yeah! Before VR I’d play the occasional game of Mario kart :P
Always appreciate your thoughts my guy! Day one homies!

That's facts! Age ain't nothin' but a number 💯
Ooooooo, I like this! Could be a very, very dope crossover!
Online is great when the competition is stiff but outside of those rare matches, I hate it
@@thegamersician Did you see the comment I sent? It was a suggestion fighting games. I'm not seeing it.
Hmm... I see your first comment. That's it
Dude, your comment disappeared again! I was trying to comment back.
@@thegamersician It's deleting it.
Somehow missed this comment man, I'm sad I did. Love to hear about your journey. Hope that 90 is even more now! Proud of you G 👏🏾
I'm 48......... and still gaming. Saturn, Dreamcast and Xbox 360 are my bread and butter.
Good shit! Hopefully we never stop
So I would be remiss not to give her lots of props there :)
Glad you enjoyed the video, and hope you enjoy some more content!
No disagreements here 🫡 the video fully supports this statement.
oooo im curious....
I think you'll enjoy this one, my dude!
Did you get to check it? Would love to hear your thoughts since I know we're about the same age
😭😭😭😭 Thanks for watching... But also, hope you get to play some games!
Im 23 years old and im likely will continue for a long time.
I sure hope so 👏🏾 I'm 37 going strong
Appreciate you G 👏🏾
I can no longer cope with the complexity of games and I’m no longer excited to overcome these difficulties and I just quit them without completing them. yeah, I'm getting too old for them
Damn. I hear that. Well, maybe you'll find a game that rekindles that feeling for you. But nothing wrong with growing out of old hobbies if you don't!
I feel all of this. And I'll be 38 this year. I do still enjoy difficult games but don't seek them out any more.
Damn. Love that for you fam! What do you play these days?
😂 Not a CoD granny! I love it. Glad you have continued gaming, and plan to for a long time 👏🏾
@@thegamersician Yes!
I'm 33 years old single and living in the apartment i still play Nintendo switch online like Nintendo 64 games
Good! You should play games as long as they bring value to your life. I never said you shouldn't
Awesome! Keep goin 💪🏾
I’m 42 and I really want a gaming computer. Not that I’m going to play games but I love the look of the gaming computers, keyboards and mice.
I love mine! I don't game on it much but I use it to edit
I dont play online anymore, sad times
Yea, me either. Not really. I might periodically, but it seems more of a novelty than an actual way to play :(
What is the reason for that? Lack of time? Or just no motivation?
@@thegamersician Lack of time and skill now😆
😂 😂 I feel that! On both. One falls first then they both die together 😭
I got my socials from talking about games rather than coop haha
Another great video from you! Keep gaming gamer 😁
Oh I definitely spent MOST of my time playing games on an island. I was always an offline guy. My only co-op games were really fighters and some couch co-op such. I still hate online 😂 😂
Thanks for weighing in, Sushi!
Love the work you are doing, great video. 👍28
Thank you! Cheers! Always appreciate your support 👏🏾
There are, IMHO, two kinds of gamers:
-Those that need to play the latest, hottest games either competitively or for streaming ($) .The Kids
-Those who play for fun, health or just want a good moral story. Balance work/family with game. Mature, or US😊
(BTW, 55 here. No f'n shame included)
55! Love that. I hope I'm still gaming then 💪🏾
Also, yes... We are #2! Let them have the latest and greatest. I play my share of those too but really only the single player, mostly.
I’m a 48 year old gamer its relaxing
I agree! I'm 37 and I doubt I'll ever stop 👏🏾
I'm 37 and still playing.
I too am 37 and still playing. Someone didn't watch the video lol
And I will stop playing at the age 50
That's very specific. Why 50?
@@thegamersician because when i turned 50 i need to focus in life like family, work, health and Religion or Faith😁
Hope you get to enjoy some more content 👏🏾
but daigo
There are always outliers ;)
I am 40 and I am going to say...no, no I am not too old. Never too old to game. Although I have three games I bought months ago and have not even played yet.
I'm going to guess you haven't watched the video ;) I'm 38! Still going strong.
@@thegamersician Oh no, sorry it was not meant to be a criticism of your video, I watched it and agreed with it. I was attempting to be light-hearted commented. Sorry that it didn't come across that way.
Ohhh. No worries! I just have got a few comments like that so I'm expecting them 😂
What games are you sitting on?
@@thegamersician A Plagues Tale: Requiem, The Dark Pictures Anthology Little Hope and Sniper Elite 5.
48 years old never going to quite beats getting drunk high going to jail or prison that is a waist of time and childish
Basing a video on a 2016 report makes this video obsolete before it was made.
A. I made this in early 2023
B. There's not that much research on this topic, so we got what we got
And C. Most research in fields such as this are considered sound for about 10 years, so remind me to remake it in 2026
I regret watching this post i can’t get that 17:01 back! I’m 54 been playing since the 80’s !
Good for you. Keep gaming
I’m 54 helps with my mental health
I'm 38 and same! Keep playing 🎮
@@thegamersicianthankyou
I’m gonna be 31, and I WILL BE BUILDING AN RTX 5000 series pc to game on in 4K
You can’t stop me, fight me then 😡
Don't let me stop ya 😎 I'm 37! Love gaming 💪🏾
What are you playing first on that beast
Some of my gaming platinums and achievements would beg to differ. 44 here.
You didn't watch the vid ;)
I get it! I'm 37 and I'll never stop.
@thegamersician I'm actually mid way through man. I had to pause as the wife came home. But I assure you I will finish.
@thegamersician and I was only talking that first study you mentioned. I should have been a bit more clear on things.
No worries, man! I think you'll find my analysis thorough and my findings to align with your experience. Just have to get the people riled up. UA-cam 101 😂
@thegamersician I feel you man. I normally watch while on a level grind. I definitely liked what I saw so far and agree.
So my birth year starts w/19, I'm officially genX. I play vgames and run my states scholastic esports league, so vgames are a large part of my life.....yep black female genx.
I love that! Do you mind me asking which state? Feel free to shoot me an email if you'd prefer, as I'm always looking for more black gamers to connect with: contact@thegamersician.com
Or feel free to add/message me on any social platform, too!
gaming till I die
Good!
I plan to make gta 6 the final game i purchase and play
Oh wow. What is the significance of GTA6? Just a nice capstone? And why are you quitting?
@thegamersician I honestly feel like Gta6 is the last hope we gamers have at getting a good game with no real-world agendas or politics forced in it. If it fails to deliver, I'm done, and many others will be as well. The gaming industry has compromised and conformed to the "woke mind virus," and the gamers are done
I'm a BO2 addict 😎✌️
Hell yea
cuando tienes 30 years old ya estas muy viejo zero skill
Keep watching- I think you'll appreciate my take :)
@@thegamersician no thanks
@@sileopatronus hey I respect that. Appreciate you stopping by
So if I don't game should I just switch my brain off and watch TV or should I interact with a game and use my brain? I think the latter is the best option.
Where did I say not to game? I'm 37 and do it basically daily!
@@thegamersician that ain't directed at you it's more the population that would assume a 37 years (my age also) is too old to game.
🙏🏾 I feel that! I'm amazed there are still people that think there's an expiration on gaming. Like you said, what's the difference between that and staring at a TV the way most of them do? At least gaming stimulates your senses!
