Gday mate ,i have nearly finished my little 15 foot runabout resto and it is in no way as complex as yours and its taken me nearly 2 years so your doing pretty bloody good ,when i bought this i thought can i weld ali ? NO can i fiberglass YES so the choice was easy ,yes the glass is heavier than ali but if i make a drill hole in the wrong place i just countersink it and fill it, easy as (ask me how i know) its only an inshore fisher but the tuna have been inshore of late so you never know your luck . I admire what you have done and i rekon it is going to be a magnificent offshore boat , for me this is probably the last one ill do at 64 it is just to hard to get into tight spots to do work anyway i want to see how great this boat is going to look and perform and remember once done you have the bragging rights forever .

Hey mate, glad you’re enjoying the series and getting something out of it. It’s been a huge job and I can’t wait to get it on the water.

I've found this series really motivating mate, thankyou! Quick one from me - looks like you're ripping the CS instead of cutting it with sissors, is that intentional? I can imagine it'd make the edge of the sheet lay down flatter when it's glassed in.

Glad you’ve enjoyed the series and hopefully you get something out of it mate.
Yes tearing the CSM allows for seamless joins in the final finish.

Hey mate I’m about to do the same to a 19r. Looking back would ya do anything different? And how much resign did ya use? Thanks mate

Hey Jack, thanks for watching and yes I would do a lot of things differently, but it’s a learning process as you go.
Stringers - I’d probably double up 18mm board and laminate it together. It adds strength but it also makes it easy to glass over the top edges while also widening the base of the stringers creating more longitudinal strength.
Put the boat in a shed from the get go, cradle it up and level it off from the beginning, makes life so much easier and keeps everything in shape.
I’ve used 2 and 1/2 44 gallon drums of resin for this build.
Good luck and enjoy it mate 👍

Sorry mate, I jumped ahead on a few smaller jobs because of the time that these videos take I thought I’d get some work done. If you want to message me on instagram I can explain how I created the recess.

Nice build mate - here’s a tip that’s too late for u - I buy my thermolite machine sanded on both sides and you can laminate straight to it only having to prep wipe with acetone. Doesn’t cost any extra and saves a lot of itching!

Hey Nathan, I was under the impression that I had purchased pre sanded board. But during the build I laminated some sheets and the next day after the resin had set up, I was to peel the glass right off the Thermolite without much force at all. That’s when I decided to scuff it right up and it worked a treat. I checked my invoice for the Thermolite but it doesn’t mention pre sanded so I’m not sure if it was or wasn’t.

Yeah fair enough mate - I use epoxy so a bit different but when I buy my thermolite from you can specify sanded sanded, sanded natural - or natural both sides. Nothing more disheartening then a failed layup- I must admit I’ve done the “come out the shed the next morning all proud of what I’ve done and realised I missed the hardner! After to many arvo beers the day before 🤦‍♂️

Ahh mate that’s disheartening! I know a reputable boat building that laid a whole hull up using a resin gun and when they finished laying up, they realised the catalyst hadn’t pumped through the gun with the resin 😬
