@@MonicaCatapusan It's more related to both of their past trauma, sadly. I won't spoil it because they might go into detail in future seasons! But they both have quite dark traumatic pasts. I so appreciate you mentioning the way Ben Barnes got up on that horse so gracefully, it makes me swoon every time I see it and people don’t talk about that moment enough imo
@@MonicaCatapusan from what I saw in interviews he used to do some horseback riding. And for the show Ben & Jessie had quite a bit of training. I believe there was a scene of the darkling & Alina racing each other through the fields but it got cut for time.
@@MonicaCatapusan He has quite extensive horse ridding traning from Prince Caspian movie. He did a lot of ridding there. And he spoke about it in Caspian interview at that time. He also did show called Westworld, where he rode too. So he is quite experienced horse rider. I can say, that is always pleassure to watch actors, who can actually ride on screen, because sadly more often they can’ t. He must have had really good trainers on Caspian, because he has really good seating and they drilled the basics into him as well. Take this from someone, who has been ridding for over 20 years. Jessie on the other hand seems not that experienced. Looks like she has ridding before and has the confidence, her seatting is okay, but her legs are wrong. I was surprised she managed to keep the stirrups, but I bet she looses them often when ridding 🙂 loosing stirrups mean you feet are falling out of stirrups especially during canter or gallop. Sorry I got a bit technical. Also she is ridding smaller horse with smoother canter movement. Ben is ridding bigger horse with quite big movement when cantering. So the fact that he remains seated even though the rocking motion of that horse is much bigger, shows how good he really is to stay with that horse movement and not to start bounce up and down in the saddle.
I think the thing with Matthais is that he truly believed in the Fjerdan trials. Like, he was taught his whole life to believe that Grisha were evil and should be treated as such. So when every Grisha who went under trial was found guilty, he really believed in those verdicts, and that's why he had no remorse. But when he was told to kill them all without trial, it really threw him off. And, obviously, meeting Nina is going to bring up many questions about things he thought he knew
i like how every time you're so into alina and general kirigan's moment, you'd chase away the feeling by saying, "he wants you for your powers though" as a reality check 😂
Otkazat'sya is the ravkan word for non-grisha, kinda like muggle for Harry Potter. Also, the shadow and bone books are told entirely from Alina's perspective. Six of Crows however is multi perspective told from the point of view of all six of the gang members.
Ohhh thank you for explaining! Do they ever say that in the show or only in the books? And thank you again, it always fascinates me when book to movie adaptations come from first person narratives, like we finally get to see what the other characters were doing during those times!
@@MonicaCatapusan I don't think they explain it, most of the show just drops you in the world with no explanation, but they have said it multiple times in the show (for example in that scene with the taster)
Apparently the full translation for the word is " the abandoned" or " abandoned by the saints" because they don't have Grisha powers. Super interesting.
Um, ignore those comments! You can and should 100% ship Kaz and Inej. They have a sort of.....unique relationship dynamic because of their backstories and trauma but that will be explained in later seasons. People just really like to freak out and gatekeep when it comes to them.
In the books it's only first person through Alina's perspective. But near the end of the first book Mal kinda explains what he went through in the north (looking for the stag). And then we get like an extra feature at the end of the book that is a letter from Mal to Alina. (That she never got :( which explains his friends deaths and why he misses her so much).
A pretty common trope in media that people tend to overlook, but from personal experience I know to watch out for it now. It’s often mistaken for a strong bond and depth in a relationship but can actually be very damaging
I'm not a Malina stan, but there are moments with them where I just freak out so much and where I ship them a lot. I'm more of a Darklina stan, and the Darkling is also my top comfort character, I know, I'm a psychopath
First of all who's out here saying not to ship Kaz and Inej? They're literally the power couple of the Grishaverse😭 their relationship works in a very very different way than what normal relationships do but their dynamic is absolutely stunning - it's all silent communication and mutual respect. We stan Kanej in this household. (Also just so you know, nobody heard Jesper's gunshot during the heist because he timed it perfectly with the hourly chime of the clock - the man has skills)
The question on whether the General likes her because of her powers or just because of her is a very interesting one, and very important specially coming from the books... But it is probably a discussion for when you post the final episodes of the show :)! But all I will say is that they dynamic is really interesting, and also deep... Their connection is complicated indeed; and it does have a lot to do with their powers... The uniqueness of both their powers, how their powers work and interact, their relationship plays with that analogy of the "Light/Darkness" and how they are two sides of the same coin... And also how the repercussions of their powers affects them. His character is indeed deep LOL
Ben Barnes has publicly said he was playing the Generals feelings as genuine. So he did legit fall for Alina without meaning to. Or that was what Ben Barnes was trying to portray, anyway.
@@AnxietyRat Well yes, but in my comment I meant that this question was a big part of their relationship in the books, and will probably be on the show as well... When I first read Shadow and Bone and read the scene when Mikael and Dubrov die, I cried SO much. And when I was watching the show, when I remembered that it was the ep when they died, I cried more than when they did die.
The grisha trilogy (the original trilogy starting with the book shadow and bone) is written in first person from Alina's perspective but the six of crows duology is written from multiple perspectives. Mal in the show is so much better than in the books, he was more dismissive about her than in the show. The show actually made me like him, Archie does him so well. Also with Ben Barnes, him and Jessie mei li made the dynamic between alina and Kirigan more raw and consentful and I loved it.
Ah that’s very interesting, I suppose the netflix writers wanted to make it more of a difficult love triangle decision🤔 Honestly Archie’s acting is what sold me, the way he looks at her is so🥺
Nah, show Mal is book Mal, but you have to read the subtext. Eg past Alina's assumptions that he doesn't care in the books, and you never find it what was going on for Mal til waaaay after the case. It's supposed to be unreliable narrator, she thinks the Darkling is good, she thinks Mal doesn't care, but you get subtext and then actual confirmation that that's not the case. Mal had a sense of humour in the books, and his dialogue and actions always made it clear he was more dedicated to Alina, but she is both insecure about it, and also... just takes him for granted, doesn't question what's going on for Mal for long stretches of time, which means readers who aren't looking for the clues that Alina is missing, don't notice what was going on for Mal either. They just made it more obvious in the show what was going on, as the author realised a lot of people had, well, missed it (eg darkling/Zoya was also subtext in the books) The letters are from the books & author, the stuff Mal does is from books... It's the same Mal.
