This is the episode that was filmed at Alverno High School in Sierra Madre! My sister was a senior at the time and the girls all came to school in rain coats carrying cigars, and Peter Falk was nice enough to address them at an assembly and pose for pictures. It's all in the school's 1973-74 yearbook.
You can see a fake wall was installed dividing the Villa library into 2 rooms. And part of the classic black and white tile floor is visible in the boy Genius' lab. The garage has never looked so neat and clean!
This is a nice story. But tell me.....where were you on the night she died? Everybody else was at the party? Everyone apart from you.............
@@Felix-Sited She also smokes cigars...
@@Felix-Sited I didn't know Lew Ayres was a woman! ...a most unattractive woman at that. 🙂
@@Felix-Sited oh just one more thing---
Mr Spock was on Columbo and Columbo said to Spock the word "Fascinating". 13 times in that episode. lol. now that really does not get better than that. Very. Fascinating. !!!
Robbie the Robot from Forbidden Planet and Charlie X from Star Trek (TOS) both in an episode of Columbo. 70s TV viewing didn't get any better than this.
Jose Ferrer's voice takes me straight back to "The Caine Mutiny" .. what an amazing actor
Charlie X made the body move from the parking lot to the floor of the sitting room, lol!
With B9's help.
The Stark Trek Alumnus is strong with this one
It is impressive how Lt. Columbo treats the murderers with respect and humility. Giving him the cigar in the end, knowing he's going away for a long time. He understands why he did it but still holds him to the letter of the law. Brilliant.
"I'm a boy genius"
"Oh that's good"
Hahaha I love it
Despite what others may think, this is one of my favorites.
This is also one of the few that had an actual "perfect murder." Columbo couldn't prove this guy's guilt with evidence. He had to trick him into confessing.
I was thinking this wasn't your favorite, thanks for correcting me
@@friedrice7 I got it completely wrong too
@@friedrice7 I actually suspected it was one of his favorites. I wasn't sure though!
Weren't there a couple of other episodes where Colombo had to trick the murderer into confessing?
The way he catches him mirrors the military excercises, which being about nuclear war must account for what are acceptable losses and what are unacceptable ones. So that columbo found his tipping point, his unacceptable loss and used it to bluff him into surrender. A brilliant tactician as well as just a funny little guy in a raincoat.
Institute full of "geniuses" and Columbo does circles around them.
Intelligence does not equal Wisdom
@@youngmultiverser9311 My mother was a nurse, and she said the save thing about doctors.
@@Genevieve1023your Mother would be right
Jose Ferrer played a great part. Great actor. Played Cyrano de Bergerac in his younger days. He insulted Columbo's intelligence throughout the episode, only to be defeated in the end by one of Columbo's classic set ups.
He also portrayed the painter Toulouse-Lautrec. As well as Herod Antipas in 'The Greatest Story Ever Told.'
Was his son an actor in the original robocop Miguel ferrer
@@gregthomas4119 I wasn't sure until I looked it up. But, you're right, he was!
WOW a tape recording! Columbo is going high tech. 🥸🥸🥸
Good to see Robby the Robot again.
Yes, but it's a little different than the original Robby the Robot from The Forbidden Planet, but I think the head is at least identical. It doesn't have legs though.
They look like Zach-bots.
I like how Columbo always gives some something that was their fav before going to jail Wine for the the wine expert Cigar here , etc
Mind you, that's if he respects them. Otherwise, there's no fanfare, no show. Just, "Book 'em. On suspicion of murder."
He didn't bring a zegar (clock)...🤣
@@riekerankeschmidt7046 lol ok so not all
Robert Walker Jr. looks so much like his dad.
The man who plays the murderer, Jose Ferrer, I will always associate with a 1978 TV movie called "The Amazing Captain Nemo". The reason being it was the first movie I ever recorded from the TV on to a videotape machine, a Betamax recorder in 1982. My brother used to use that machine to record Columbo re-runs as well and still has videotape recordings of the original Columbo episodes going back to the mid 1980's
Father of Miguel Ferrer, who played the role of an overzealous nuke-exploding moron in another undersea movie, "Deep Star Six".
I was thinking they looked similar.
Might like Miguel better in NCIS LA.
I bet Columbo would have figured out who made a duplicate key to the ward room ice box and pilfered the strawberries.
After destroying captain Queeg, he had to go murder somebody?! Wasnt seeing Queeg fall apart enough?! What a sick sick man 😂😂
José Ferrer is one of my favorite actors of all time. His son, Miguel, followed in his footsteps. I must be old, because Miguel's gotten old, and it seems like his dad was on Columbo only yesterday!
The kid and the son both have hilarious hairstyles
Ah, the 70s...
remember these as a kid and as a mature adult im still impressed
No full episode this Saturday? Well, I don't mind, don't mind at all this 10 minute episode because remember when we had nothing? When there was no COLUMBO youtube channel giving us these gems, no matter how long or short? Because I do! So I am still happy.
I agree. When we look to those times when we were much worse off...we forget to be grateful for all we have.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams.
To those few people being hateful and unappreciative ( NOT meaning people requesting in a polite manner) ....stop being ignorant acting. BUY the set if you don't like the clips.
2:32 I wonder if Robbie the Robot has a 🌟 on the Walk of Fame. He sure deserves one - he's been around since the 50s at least!! 🚀
1:54 Ah yes. Because what science lab wouldn't be complete without a bottle of Heroin.
That confession will never hold up. All he has to do is withdraw the confession, and have his lawyer point out that he was tricked into confession to try and protect his son who he thought was about to go to jail for murder. He would argue that he thought - based on the false evidence that Columbo had presented - that his son was actually guilty, and tried to take the fall for him.
Does it make for good tv? Sure. But it's pretty bad police work.
Who but 7 maybe 8 in a few days cares please understand not everyone is so dedicated on a TV show they break down real world implications. Good day sir.
@@brainboyandthefunkybunch6516 You cared enough to comment on a one year old comment, buddy.
Robbie the Robert from "Forbidden Planet" Another veteran performer on Columbo
Wow, Columbo caught the killer in this one TOO! :)
the anachronistic robot juxtaposed with more realistic cutting edge computers is so, so hard to take seriously, but otherwise the whole rest of the episode is great. I think this is the first that gets solved with a confession, its an interesting twist
Full episodes please.. Appreciate this mini episode though
I stream the full episodes on Peacock. Try it. Columbo is THE BEST! Also, on Sunday nights, Columbo is on meTV from 8-10
Columbo and his tricks do it every time.
Robert Walker looked just like his father, Robert, Sr., who played the villain, Bruno, in "Strangers on a Train."
The only case Colombo couldn't prove who did it, although he did know who did it.
Peter Falk is awesome. As usual.
Good to see Robby the Robot working again...
Loved Those episodes, need the full one as well!
Exactly the Lost in Space robot. Beauty 😂
Actually robbie the robot was originally on forbidden planet
He didn't have to share a cigar with the killer there, at the end. But he did. Was it because it was a father, protecting his son, and Columbo knew he wasn't going to have access to cigars in prison?
I think it was to symbolise that they had played a tough game and that they respected each other, like boxers hugging each other after a fight.
He tends to do that some of the guest murderers...do one parting gesture before booking them.
Yeah, it'd be great to see some full episodes on here :)
3:13 That yard with brick & moss, I can smell the aroma of the boxwoods. I love it.
Ok its Saturday, where’s our full episode. You know we need our weekend Columbo.
Tee L the box set is cheap
Mark Johnson nothing is cheap when you can't afford it
But you could afford a computer?
hey Mark stop being such a butthole. you guys said nothing is cheap if you can't afford it. you're assuming he has a computer he can be watching it on his burner phone just like I am I'm 67 and on a fixed income. I'm glad that you can afford to buy the box set so why don't you just go do that?
kathryn m miller you can afford a burner phone?
That son Neil is Robert Walker Jr. - his parents were Hollywood greats Robert Walker and Jennifer Jones! He sure looks like his dad - only too slender and pretty! (that would be the Jennifer side of him!).
Love this🥰Thanks!
Jose Ferrer. If you aren't familiar with his work all the way back to his classic Hollywood days, you've missed out!
Who doesn't have a can of heroin for "experiments"?
2:53 RIP Jessica Walter
We want full episodes, please!
yeeees pleeeaaaasssseeee!
heinrich huber auf Deutsch???? Aber ich verstehe nicht. Ich spresche Deutsch nur ein bischen
It's OK in this case. :-D Not one of the stronger episodes
Then be willing to pay!
You can buy them on dvd
Outstanding!
Is it just me or is the son's head shaped a bit funny? Reminds me of the great Gazoo from The Flintstones....
No one noticed that the writers made fun of their young story editor by naming the boy genius "Steven SPELLberg"? Hilarious!
7:38 Hmmmm ... very interesting. That's the kind of thing Charlie X would say.
shows you how old this is... an adult male taking a boy child to the drive-in... not an eyebrow raised...
😬🤯😂
Now a year later and you have freak pervert teachers & the entire Disney corp screeching that PARENTS have the right to know what's going on & being taught & told to their K - 4th graders in schools.
You know how you can tell that people are old?
We drive like Jose Ferrer. Put your arm over the seat and turn around while you're backing up.
Like all us other old people do.
"I might as well tell you sir; I'm a boy genius."
"Oh...well that's good."
Never change Colombo. Never change.
The kid's name is Stevie Spielberg "boy genuis" it was a dig at the new director working at universal.
“Spellberg.” The real boy genius directed the first regular Columbo episode in 1971 (Murder by the Book), at age 24.
"If it is really 'Columbo in 10 Minutes'... then _why does the outro start at_ 9:51?"
If you’re Canadian you might also remember Jose Ferrer from the 70s movie version of Who Has Seen The Wind.
Wow a whole movie condensed to 10 minutes. I usually condense columbo by skipping past the entire murder until columbo shows up. Then it's worth watching haha.
Yes we want full apisod
Brilliant !
Where are the episodes? Why are only some posted sometimes why arent they swapped out? I wish Netflix would put it backup
I like this. Succinct. Thanks for posting!
Robert Walker should've tilted his head down and show the whites of his eyes to throw Columbo off
R.I.P. Robert Walker, Jr. (79)
And RIP Jessica Walter (80)
This was my favorite
Good episode
I can't believe the wonderful Lew Ayres allowed his hair to look like this. He was always a handsome man, this hair style did him no favors.
A bit discombobulated! LOL. But a full episode would be great. 👍
Damn, I didn’t even see that coming.
when would be possible to purchase all seasons on youtube? I cannot wait for that!
Kind of a dicey move to bump somebody with a car front end. Badly injured, perhaps . . .but killed 🤔
As an avid car enthusiast, I'd pay good money for those Laguna S-3s, especially if you happen to notice the 454 emblem on the fender
These days a simple dna test would nail nearly any of these people. Colombo was amazing but Peter said most of the cases were actual crimes he modified but many were actually committed at one time or another
Wasn't he the kid in that Star Trek episode? It's him!! Charlie!
I want my episode! OMG I'm having an episode!
Man you dont want Columbo as your enemy.
His battalions of Sardukar Terror Troops are no match for Columbo.
Need more Jack Cassidy episodes
RIP Mr. Walker.🙏💕
It's downright creepy how much he looked like his father.
Whoa, never knew the name of Lee Montgomery. I just remember seeing him on other TV shows.
5:49 That's Charlie from Star Trek!
Poor Robby the Robot.
Nice hair Lew.
Just realized that Charlie X is in this episode from Star Trek TOS
He is Robert Walker Jr, son of the actor from the forties. The dad was in the classic "Strangers on a Train". The son was in some movies also, I remember him in " Easy Rider" and the sequel to "Mr Roberts".
Not to mention Robbie the Robot from Forbidden Planet.
Not to mention Jose Ferrer (Cyrano de Bergerac, The Caine Mutiny), Father of Miguel ( E.R., Law and Order: Criminal Intent, NCIS: LA)
Is that the robot from Lost in Space? Danger danger Will Robinson.
what about full episode , it is saturday night.. .)?
I am waitting also..anther
That “I’m sorry” at 7:42 was the worst moment in tv history.
Bad dog! Bad dog!
Hey it's the robot from "Forbidden Planet".
Miss him and Miguel so much!
I don’t know if this would work. Couldn’t the murderer claim he made a confession under duress to get his son released? Especially now that he knows the witness was faked?
Full Episodes are on peacock
Wooooow! Whom am I seeing here?? Charlie from Star Trek the Original Series!! And the robot and all create an impression of Star Trek alright! Awesome!
The robot from lost in space
@@frankdenardo8684 No, that is Robbie the Robot from the movie "Forbidden planet"
@@FloridaMugwump You're right about the Robot, but that is definitely the actor who played Charlie X from Star Trek TOS, Robert Walker. And, of course, the late, great Jose Ferrer.
@@TheRichNewnes Robert Walker was an actor from the thirties, best known for strangers on a train. This was his son, Charlie of course. But I also rememberr him from the terrible sequel to .... Ugh, the ww2 movie with Henry fonda and jack lemon?? Mister roberts, he fell off the ship and ended up on a desert island. Also a crazy hippie commune leader in eazy rider.
@@FloridaMugwump Right. That's Robert Walker, Jr to be more accurate. Thanks. Never saw that Mister Roberts sequel though. Love the original. It was a classic. I'll have to watch Easy Rider again to see him in it. It's been a while.
"Bad dog" well that's pretty embarrassing he's right
I find it odd that he was recording himself house breaking his dog.
@@rosario508 left the tape running by accident. Also dog is the dogs name in universe.
columbo too smart
Isnt that the actor who played Emporar Shaddam in Lynch's Dune?
Yep. Jose Ferrer.
Thank you dannydinosaur for confirming
It's Saturday .... Where is the weekly 'COMPLETE'' Columbo episode ???
we got spoiled.
No doubt Mrs Colombo was a big fan of the theory of molecular activity.
Steven Spielberg was the boy genius's name.
