Join our automotive expert for a lesson on the Ferrari California's history and its place in car culture, then go for a drive in it with her!
The Ferrari California boasts genuine supercar performance, surprising practicality due to the 2+2 interior, and a top-down driving experience thanks to the retractable hardtop. This particular California touts reasonably low mileage, and it's finished in a classic Ferrari color combination. It also features some nice equipment like carbon ceramic brakes, Daytona-style front seats, and rear parking sensors - and it's equipped with a few upgrades including 20-inch front and 22-inch rear Lexani wheels and Novitec adjustable springs. This California is also offered with a clean, accident-free Carfax report showing ownership primarily in warm-climate states, which should provide some peace of mind to the next owner.

Anyone who talks down on the California simply hasn't driven one yet. This car rocks, and I'm so glad I got to share it with all of you
You know what’s in California? Six Flags
Also… good job (per usual)
Without a doubt
SIX FLAGS@@BBQ_T_Bone
lol
lmao even
It might as well have a GM badge on it
Fun Fact: I remember from Doug’s video a few years ago that that California badge on the dashboard is the same font as the California script on the California license plate. Just thought people would like to know
you know how a ferrari is old when it still promotes their formula 1 title wins
2025, going to be their year.
Has so much Maserati Granturismo in it from certain angles
Well, when Ferrari and Maserati split in 2005, Ferrari took Maserati's project for Gran Turismo, changed steel to aliuminium and sold it as California, and Maserati was left in a bit of a scramble to develop a replacement quickly (Gran Turismo 1st gen), which they did in a record 9 months (from initial designs to production), based on Quatroporte V chassis
@@aronaskairys88 true story
I agree, the best time period for center console/control stack is the 2010s when there was the happy medium with screens and buttons.
Agreed!
BMW maintained the perfect balance of buttons and screens until recently when they switched to generation 8
Your laugh in the beginning says it all.
Truly!
I'll never forget working as college dorm RA and watching a freshman unpack his Dad's California for move-in.
What did he pack in there? 2 packs of socks?
@@carsandbids A third of an Alanis.
What college are you talkin' about? It sure as hell was not mine brother 😊
You’d think you were riding a flying broomstick the way you were laughing
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought that laugh was a bit witch like.
Rosso Corsa/ Beige is Ferrari’s classic color combo. Nice review.
Resale red, they call it.
Thank you so much!

Finally, the "Grand Tourer" term explained!
god that engine sounds gorgeous, what a beautiful machine! great review c:
Always forget these things are hardtops, almost mistook it for a coupe!
Holy shit, that car is like 15 years old now... Where has the time gone?
Right?
Went into our wrinckles.
It’s in my Top 3 Ferraris for sure. Those would be F430, F40, California
7:01 did Alanis poot when trying to get into the truck?
Wtf lmao 🤣 😂
I've had to come to grips with what I will never be able to afford as a car enthusiast, BUT, would I be willing to try owning a California or California T and pray nothing needs maintenance/replacement? My financial advisor (AKA the magic 8-ball) says "yes".
Our tarot cards also say "yes, do it"
I’ve bought three different Ferraris out of warranty over the years. They’ve all been extremely reliable. Never had one major problem. Just a couple very minor issues.
In this spec it looks really good
Not bad right?
7:06 stepsis got stuck in a Ferrari's boot
Soo beautiful 😍. The California looks good too.
I think it's a great way for an average person to have the Ferrari experience. I started off looking for an Audi R8 but couldn't find many in my area and landed on the California. After owning one for about 6 months I'd say:
Pros: The sound, the power, the compliant ride, the sense of occasion that comes from driving this compared to an EV or Mustang, and the price.
Cons: Trunk is really small but the back seats help, insurance companies don't like Ferraris (even soft ones), seriously there's no cup holder, and I'm nervous about facing a massive repair bill someday. Fingers crossed...
I love my Cali also...BTW, the cup holder is by the passenger side
"Let's get some fresh embarrassment." Fresh embarrassment is my new favorite thing.
The Ferrari California is a very beautiful and elegant car with a lot of power and a lot of style. I like it a lot. I would like to get one. But not in red, I prefer more subtle colours. But also this particular car is very beautiful, the interior is perfect!
Hi Alanis, another cool one. That car had a lot of criticism but I suppose for any regular dude that thing drives like a dream. Sure thing it looks good but with you in the same picture it looks just like a red pepper 😊. Much love always from West Spain!
You rock! Thank you so much!
@@AlanisKing LOL, Let's say I play guitar 😉
Never forgetting that laugh
Alanis your laugh at the beginning once again made my lunchtime sooo much better! TY! Best host for any car vid. Literally! 💪😄🤘
PS love your hubby smh

To me, all "Cars And Bids" reviews should be made by Alanis! Love her and I'm not even simping!
Oh my god! xD Loved the thing with the F1 wins and the little sign xD
Delightful and educational!
Thanks Alanis
Thank you : )
According to car UA-cam, I measure trunk space by Alanis's, cupholders by Big Friggin Bottles, and door pocket sizes with convenience store junk food.
Hahahahahaha
Her sister the Maserati Gran Turismo share the same platform and F136 V8 engine block.
Not the same platform.
I love these cars so much and the spec is perfect
They rock!
I like how fun this lady is. Seems like she really enjoys her job.
Who are you her husband?? She laughs like the clown we call VP..
I do! Thank you so much
the trunk test, I believe the top partition should have been lifted, you probably could fit.. or not.. we will never know now.. also the top speed test should have been made with the car working, Ferrari batteries are finicky and we don't know if the state of the battery affected the speed of the test.
My stock 2007 CTS-V made the same performance and had a six speed manual for $60K.
It was about time that you made a video on Ferrari
We have done some others with Kennan
This was my first time seeing an Alanis review. She did a great job! I like that she clearly has her own style of reviewing and her passion comes thru!
Thank you so much!
Thank you : )
There are a FEW Californias that had a manual transmission. Like I mean VERY FEW
Much like 599s
I've heard there were only 3, but Ferrari lies all the time so who really knows. For years we had phantom Enzos showing up
Ferrari F1 heard Alanis talking about 2008 and said "hold my Peroni, get Lewis on the line."
I don’t know what this means but I was a Ferrari & Maserati dealership (In MA) getting my Quattroporte serviced and I saw a used California in their show room and I don’t remember all the details of the car…but they were asking $87k for it. A guy came in to buy it…just sayin’…
This is such an underrated car.
Great review
Can I buy this car used or new 2023 or 2024 models
Back seat. Could you sit on one side and, with Brogan Boots off, throw your feet to the other side?
Maybe! But it's tight back there
Your passion and excitement when reviewing and driving a car is so authentic. Keep up the reviews I think that 95% of us enjoy them and yourself. I think this generation California's rear end is so iconic and good looking and damn that sound!
Thank you so much!
If memory serves, these cars have some common DCT and top issues that are ungodly expensive to deal with, and a big factor in their depreciation compared to other Ferrai models. If owners are going to put up with Ferrari-level repairs, they would rather do it on a more desirable model.
My mom's 2011 Grand Caravan has the same infotainment system hardware
And so? Most of Ferrari models don't even have a infotainment system at all, because if you own and drive it, the infotainment is the last thing you care about.
I always thought that the "California" edition meant they added quadruple the emount of catalytic converters?
No, they get stolen from your car while at work.
I swear Alanis has the best job in the world.
I do!
Where is Soug?!?!
Loved the video and the car! I want it
You and me both!
Thank you!
Well, as Ferrari just hired you-know-who from Mercedes to drive for them, that will probably change
Hopefully!!!
My current reviewer ranking:
1) Kennan
2) Doug
3) Alanis
let's see if this causes trouble in Cars & Bids paradise ;)
Kudos to Alanis for sliding into the rear seats with the top up. She’s such a trooper! Great video! Thanks for the Formula 1 laugh. Brighter days ahead for Ferrari F1!
Brighter days ahead! Yay! Thank you
Nice car , great video....Alanis, love to see you having fun !!
🥱 Just a shame some of the rest of us loyal viewers, 🛑 stopped watching as soon as she appeared. So embarrassing !!...
Thank you : )
I’d love a Ferrari California 🤩
But I do hate the rear taillight situation 😫
It is easy to modify the Cali brake lights to use the tail lights and I did it on mine. Four hours of labor with instructions from the FerrariChat forum and you have a more Ferrari-like rear.
Awesome review
Thank you so much
These are super fun reviews, glad they're a thing now.
Glad you like them!
Ferraristi may despise the California but it brought a lot of AMG SL people over in 2009. Essentially Ferrari built an Italian SL63. They were tired of Mercedes insane popularity of AMG's R230 SL. The specs matchup nearly perfectly right down to backseat delete and the coveted hardtop convertible roof. Car & Driver tested them together and agreed how tightly matched they were. Just show's how long distance autobahn breeding is an overarching reality for many roadster buyers of GT cars. The fact that this Ferrari was competing with AMG's SL only made me want the SL even more with Ferrari level street credit.
Great review Alanis! Much prettier than Doug. Different takes than Doug, such as the smile on the front of the car. Knows her car stuff. Variety is the spice of life. Still love Doug's reviews.
Well said
Thank you for watching!

UA-cam let's us test 3 thumbnails. Then selects the best performing. You aren't tripping.
Just scary
Look how big this trunk is... Which one?😂
The vocal fry on this one was a little too much..
Coming back to that sculpture of a car - what a masterpiece. A dream car for sure!

"vocal fry" (glottal creak, in linguistics), is a normal component of many languages. anybody in many dialects of english have varying degrees of glottal creak.
@@snailevangelist yeap. This specific dialect is quite heavy on it. I tend to be bothered by it. I still watched the whole video and I still appreciate her "review" and knowledge about that car.
If she says she loves it… I believe it’s good. I will never understand why Ferrari purists would twist their nose on the California, the Modeo or the Rome. I am not a track racer, I don’t need a harsh ride. If it sound La like a Ferrari, and smells like one…
Totally agree!
Scary laugh.

The California is such a bad Ferrari it’s hilarious. Not to mention every one I drive is littered with disgusting melted plastic buttons
The melting plastic buttons happens to basically all Ferrari of this time period. 360,430,458,599,f12 etc. You may see it more on Californias because they tend to be used more daily than the other models.
There are way to get that fixed these days.
@@user-hr5di5fg8bthat’s very true. But those cars make up for that with the driving experience. The California is just a rental car Ferrari
@@carsandbidsFerrari should offer a free service to completely replace every plastic button in the interior. Under no circumstances is it ok for a multi hundred thousand dollar car to have sticky plastic buttons
Well, when they were new they weren't sticky.
I always found the big fake brake lights on these funny and dumb, like the Mini Clubman and Chevy Bolt. I'm expecting the big red things to be the brake lights but the real brake lights are down low in the bumper where I'm not anticipating them to be.
I wish Kennan did all of these videos. I can't stand Alannis.
What about Alanis though?
7:06 🤗
I’ve never wanted to drive this because I’m afraid I’ll like it and then I’ll look like a weirdo when I say this car is great, haha
