  • Lloyd Spear, the previous owner of Ross Rounds, visited us at Betterbee to teach us the nitty-gritty of comb honey production. This video includes information on using cut comb frames, how to arrange your hive during the nectar flow, plus frame details for year two and beyond of comb honey-making.

Betterbee, An important part Lloyd did not present was the age a bee has to be to produce wax in order to draw out comb. You have to calculate the nectar flow at least 6 weeks prior to begin building your comb building force and foraging force to ensure that there is ample drawn comb to be filled with nectar. Plus you need a young good laying queen. It just doesn't happen automatically. If you are not on top of the explosive growth the hive will swarm leaving all your hard work to a hive of young bee's that are not old enough to be foragers.
    Planning + Timing = EVERYTHING!!!!
