I know it might be under warranty, but the customer or someone is still paying for labor. Again, great educational video.
We give our customers all options, because it's not our pocketbook! Maybe their tight on money, maybe they need to send a kid to collage this year, maybe their selling and don't want to put into house. you never know. Nice work, thanks for taking the time to make this video. I have the same furnace and the same problem with my heat exchanger. I think Carrier makes these heat exchanger’s?? If so how do I get the new replacement heat exchanger?
I appreciated your informative video, especially since I know nothing about furnaces. My Payne PG9YAB036060 was installed January 4, 2012 and this winter it started making unusual noises. A whining sound has sometimes been occurring since November 2022. This noise can be heard before the blower starts and heating begins. It will happen several times until it starts up. Maybe the noise is from the secondary heat exchanger because I've never had it serviced or cleaned. I've lowered my thermostat from 72 to 70 hoping the furnace will last until spring. I also have a Lennox ac that was installed April 10, 1992. It's never been serviced and has been a terrific ac however it tripped the breaker in the summer of 2021. Since then I've been keeping the thermostat at 80 when I normally have it at 78 during summer. Sometimes I switch it off and use my electric fan to keep cool. It looks like I'll have to have it replaced when I have the furnace replaced or repaired and cleaned. Have a safe 2023 and happy birthday.
Thanks, your noise sounds like an inducer motor/fan blade failure, main contributor is poor air flow and/or high static pressures in duct system. maintenance does help.
@@americantemperaturecontrol7852 Thanks very much for the information. Maybe the Space-Gard High Efficiency Air Cleaner is too restrictive. It uses Aprilaire 213 pleated replacement media which I installed October 6, 2022. The old filter looked almost like new since I have no pets, don’t smoke and live alone. After the Payne furnace replaced the original Tappan 11 years ago, it greatly reduced our natural gas bill but maybe the air returns are too undersized for the more powerful Payne blower. The Tappan furnace lasted 37 years although it should have been replaced sooner. We had to replace it immediately after the technician informed us about how dangerous it had become. The house was built in 1975 and we moved in about 6 months later in early 1976. The winters were much colder in the 70s, 80s and 90s but the Tappan was always reliable and trouble-free. Hopefully a technician will be able to fix the Payne soon whether it’s the inducer motor, pressure switch etc.
Impressive and professional, thanks! Who do I have to contact to have mine replaced and if under warranty, about how much will be out of pocket costs be? Thanks for your time. Richard in Milwaukie, OR
Great video. I am having the same problem with my Carrier. I was taking it apart and your video is very helpful. I watch many UA-cam videos. They should all be this good. Do you know if I can just get them to send me the replacement parts without involving anyone else?
I could have done it all myself with a replacement part, but the company makes you hire a professional ticketed installer. The difference between him and me was he used a nicer electric drill like the man in this video has, and he is allowed to buy from the wholesaler. I had to pay his standard fee even though I had done almost the entire disassembly.
Nice video. Did you have to notched about 1/4" off the inducer legs to get the inducer to seal properly against the new secondary heat exchanger? Thanks
There was a piece of metal that was on the old exchanger, between the secondary and primaries, that was forgotten. I really don't know what purpose it actually serves, or what it needs to be in there for, but usually you got to have them back on.
Nice job and thank you for filming this video. What are the part numbers that you replaced or is there i complete kit part number? How can I get the kit from a dealer under warranty and install it myself?
At 14:24, would you tell me the part number of the Primary Cell Outlet Panel, please, for PG9MAA-048100 (same as Carrier 58MVP-100-20), please? I cannot locate that part number anywhere.

I have the same question basically. Our Amana lasted 8.5 years. Warranty replaced the furnace yesterday. How can I prevent this clogging of secondary or where the soot/dirt came from? They replaced without a good answer or resolve to this question in my opinion. Hard to complain about a new furnace, but not excited about this one lasting only 8-10 years.

Well as i peered in, much to my shock, I noticed 3 rust blotches on the heat exchanger. A dark one, a lighter one behind it and a third lighter one down the same side (Theres is a heavy-duty, aluminized-steel tubular heat exchanger and a stainless-steel secondary heat exchanger. ) I touched the tubular affected area with my hand and it was still solid no cracks. How worried should i be in this situation . I intend on unclogging or replacing the A COIL that has a heavy rust spot on it that know is where the drip came from to cause the rust spot. Whats your opinion about this ? Would you replace it immediately or wait , since its winter pretty soon?
My 21-year-old Carrier furnace needed a new heat exchanger last month, opted to replace the entire furnace instead. The Carrier would have been replaced under warranty; I just pay labor. I hope it was a better choice to start over with a new warranty.
The video was sped up. How long did it take you and how long does it usually take you to complete both a primary and secondary heat exchangers? Great video as well!

Is it covered under a warranty or something and the manufacturer has to pay you labor costs or something?
Its a design issue.. inducer doesn't pull enough water out of unit. Pitch must be right or it will sit on secondary. Cells prevent water from properly pulling off secondary. Look at heat fatigue on cells. Look at area it wears.
Even with a new heat exchanger, you still have other old components. If the blower motor fails, or the control board, or the gas valve, or a pressure switch, or a limit, etc............. your total individual repairs will come to perhaps 75% to 85%, or even more of the cost of a new furnace.
