      AC Service Tech LLC If frozen condenser pipe busted due to electricity off during freezing temperatures will this affect the heat exchange? I have carrier infinity. 2009 gas furnace and the heat exchanger switch is tripping every 2-3 days depending on how often it is turning on the heat. Like now it is 23 degrees so I assume putting stress. Did the condenser pipe busting and siting there for long time before fixing cause this issue? If so I can get my homeowner insurance to cover fix or replacement. I had busted/frozen pipes throughout. House that insurance is covering. This happen last winter in Park city utah but just came back here to deal w/ the issues. Thanks for your help.

    Awesome tutorial! Great for Hvac Techs that are running into issues such as these! Def not like old Clare’s or cast heat exchangers that you could prob shoot with a 30-06 and still keep going..unfortunately nothing is made to last now a days...great tutorial love your channel!! Keep doing what you do “do diligence!”

    Nowadays more and more hi-eff furnace installed and water condensation will be No.1 killer of the furnace. I heard my furnace inducer may likely killed by the condensation. Thanks for the great demonstration.

    Great content! My ArmstrongAir 95V had Roll out limiter that has tripped a few times. I had 2 companies come out to investigate the Heat Exchanger. We removed to remove the old furnace to see the Heat Exchanger and a rivet on the Primary popped out. Manufacture warranty still covers part. I am going to buy a new Goodman 2 stage furnace. Every homeowner should understand how their furnace works so they are able to identify issues before they become life-threatening.

    Excellent video. Tech was here yesterday. Furnace cycling off and on. Throwing an overheating code. New flame sensor. No roll out or odors. He checked gas pressure. No problems found so he says it must be the heat exchanger. Wants to sell me a new furnace. Yes, I it's almost 20 years old but with no evident problems found it sure feels like I'm just being sold a new furnace. Calling for a second opinion tomorrow. Thanks

I do have a question - my Lennox furnace attempted several time by inflaming for about 30 secs before it went to safe mode. When I bypass the pressure switch (the higher pressure one), it runs perfectly fine. I've ruled out other possibilities using your pressure switch video. Would that be a clogged heat exchange? And if so how would I verify if that's the culprit? My furnace guy tries to sell me a new furnace so wonder if you could provide your perspective on this. Thank you in advance!!!

    Ive had 2 clogged secondaries on 2007 carrier 96% infinities this last month. Original home owners so warranty is 40 years. Total insanity.
    Should also mention both were in horizonal-right configuration and one of the secondaries was replaced 3 years ago. Still waiting on new parts to come from factory but we'll see whats up with the relatively new one.

  • @25531
    @25531 4 роки тому +3

    Looks like the secondary heat exchanger would have a longer life span if it was installed vertically as being installed horizantly all the condensate goes through the bottom ports causing it to rust prematurealy.

  • @markhoffmann5941
    @markhoffmann5941 10 місяців тому

    Seems like if the secondary exchanger plugs up more and more one should get a higher negative pressure at the pressure switch tube... Like an indoor blowers entering negative pressure; if the return air ducting filters and such are restricted you end up with higher negative pressure at the blower inlet... You mentioned reading less pressure if the exchanger is restricting flow????

    Hey, so I am an HVAC student, and my instructors hold your UA-cam channel in very high regards. I had a question for a research assignment requirement we have been assigned that I figured I'd go straight to the source to attempt to answer. The assignment is to: 'imagine we are responding to a service call/customer complaint about a broken heat exchanger in a gas furnace.' The assignment further specifies, that we have 'removed the heat exchanger, and see a visible hole in one of the tubes', and furthermore instructs us to 'make a recommendation on what to do with the heat exchanger', and to 'document any costs that may be incurred by the customer based on the recommended solution.'
    I was wondering if you might be able to provide me with any insight as to how Y'ALL might handle this issue. (note: as a 'research assignment' we are expected to reach out to experienced sources, so you are by no means aiding or abetting any form of cheating, whatsoever, by responding, just in case that needed to be specified =). I understand you guys are super busy between the business and the channel, so I would consider it an honor if I got a reply. Thank you for all the awesome resource content, cheers!

      Education is important, and experience is key. I need to have some theory to understand why and how. This video is of a Carrier heat exchanger failure. Usually has a code 13 or 33. Rollout switch manual reset is usually tripped. Click. Lazy flames with rollback because of that primary to secondary blockage. I’ve taken them apart and seen it on many no heat calls turned estimate for changeout. If it’s a Carrier/Bryant/Payne 90%+ with either lockout codes, the rollout switch is the first check.
      8 years in service. Learned a lot, know a little. It takes time and patience.

    On the ICP furnaces, we always see the pressure switches closing, even though the secondary is plugged. I don’t understand why they didn’t factor that into the engineering of it.

    It sits beneath the floor and does not have a single flame roll out safety switch. It has quit working for now which is a good thing because I found a rotted out Flue pipe under the house. So far I have found 1 bad 90-370 fan relay and a bad pilot igniter.

    Is it a clogged condensate drain that causes this or gas pressures ,burning ?

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  8 років тому +2

      Great Question, In this scenario, it was the design of the manufacturer because the secondary heat exchanger rusted shut due to the condensate that it is supposed to handle thereby shutting off the ability for the inducer motor to pull the exhaust through. There was nothing wrong with the design from the installer and the gas pressure was set correctly.

  • @timcat1004
    @timcat1004 4 роки тому

    Gas pressures were not set up by the installer. Improper installation from day one was the cause. I had a new hi eff furnace and tank-less installed. Pressures were not checked. Pretty obvious when the tank-less started throwing codes of low gas pressures. Called the gas company and I was way low out of spec. He replaced the regulator first. That helped a little but was still way to low. He then replaced the gas meter which fixed the issues. Now with proper pressure above the minimum we were able to adjust the manifold side of things. Pisses me off that installers are not doing their job.

      They rust shut due to being a bad metal used as the heat exchanger

    Surprised it was not setting a pressure switch fault also

    So how many people died in this crash?

    Typical Carrier and Bryant furnaces. "What ever it takes to ruin your day" best warranty in the business in order to correct all the mistakes, let's not forget rattling and leaking inducer motors

    Ah! Going through this issue right now in fact, and I also noticed the condensate was staining things rusty red and seemed to trickle out of the furnace long after it shuts down, something it never did originally.
    Long story short it's getting replaced Thursday🤣

    What kind of a furnace did you say this was ? I’ll be sure to remember to put it on my shit list

    Moral of the story some heating n cooling units are trash the day they we’re built

    Carrier got sued over these. It was criminal that they made these models as long as they did without fixing them.. horrible.

    My Goodman unit goes thru 4 cycles then gives 7 SHORT BLINKS(low flame signal) WHICH I was told it's the pressure switch! But I was told by someone else it sounds like a cracked hear exchanger! The reason is because the unit
    1.1st click the inducer motor comes on!
    2. 2nd click the heating element glows!
    3. 3rd click the gas is coming thru the pipe but doesn't reach the element to lite! Now if I blow on it I have to keep blowing on it till the blower motor kicks on!
    4. If I don't blow on it,sometimes it might lite and the blower motor will blow it out and that leads to
    5.The unit goes thru 4 cycles then shuts off!
    So what could be the problem??🤔🤔🤔🤔

      If the blower motor blows out the flame then that sounds like a cracked heat exchanger. That is a dangerous situation due to carbon monoxide so don't run it and verify the crack if you can, thanks

      @@acservicetechchannel how do I verify it? Sorry I'm just starting to learn about this stuff! Lol!

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  6 років тому +1

      @@charlesgunter2478 verify visually somehow such as with a video scope or taking the blower motor out to look in or taking high heat temp switch out and looking in or adding the video scope through there or through burner channels. Look from above depending on the type of unit, thanks

    can you clean the heat exchanger?

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  7 років тому

      You cannot clean this heat exchanger. It is the secondary that is clogged. These clogs are easy to see when it is out but is covered by everything and is basically the last thing to come out of the furnace. Thanks

    Whoever chose the metal for the secondary chose... poorly.

    Perfect way to run the risk of killing people in the name of "energy efficiency" ! Not to mention all that money saved on gas (and then some) will have to be spent to replace a furnace that died prematurely! I would rather have a simpler design that might burn more gas, but is safer and more reliable.

    I got confirmation of the racket that is run by these manufacturers, but I did come to this video to find out what the Burn Spots mean on the primaries.
