You need to hear him in PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE!!! The long 11 minute version... MASTERPIECE you'll see.
Absolute MASTERPIECE!
Word
Don’t know how this song did on the pop charts, but I tell you what.. THIS SONG WAS HOT 🥵 AS FIRE on the R&B /Soul charts, all over R&B radio stations, in everyone’s ride, and if course HOT in the clubs! This song set the mood for any occasion! Brings back good early 80’s memories, what a time ! If you don’t know already her name is pronounced “ Si-ee-daaa Garrett, she is a legendary performer and songwriter, she is most known for singing with Michael Jackson on the duet “ I Just Can’t Stop Loving You “ but even better known for writing MJ’s legendary song “ Man In The Mirror “ ….
You are SO RIGHT!!!!! IT. WAS. 🔥🔥🔥Adults were SO cool to me when I was little....because we had stuff like THIS as proof!!! OMGG. The SWAG!! This song was everything.
My man Dennis was an eight ball in
Had the ol sawjaw going hard
@@nightvid3607😂
💯
She said he was high as hell when they did the video
80s was soooo pure!!!
I played this OVER and OVER and OVER endlessly when I was in college. It was 🔥 then and it’s still 🔥.
This is INSANELY FIRE. I’m rolling over here😂
So glad you reacted to this hidden gem!!! Love this song 😊
Yup but it it’s _not_ hidden if you listened to black radio in the 80’s.✌🏽
We had the best music in 70’s and 80’s R &B…
EARLY IN THE MORNING BY THE GAP BAND! You’re welcome……🤣💜💜💜🧝♀️🙌😎😎 Love watching y’all!
Y'alls stank faces 😂😂 Great reaction and song. Yes, more R&B!
HOW you guys discover these old songs that I had forgotten, I have no idea. I LOVE this song. More childhood memories.
Nick's facial expressions are everything. He HAS to become an actor. Nick is everything.
Thanks for another GREAT choice of songs, Ryan.
One of THEE best songs!! Now that I know you love old school R&B you must do "Alexander O'Neal " A broken heart can mend", "Saturday Love", "If you were here tonight", I'll stop there because there is too much good stuff!!! Love you guys!!
Fake & Whats Missing too
I listen to it over and over. Never get tired of it after all this years. One of my absolute fav ❤ I even use it for the alarm of my phone.
You guys need to listen to James Ingram. He was fantastic.
I keep mentioning this. I think they should start with Yah Mo Be There since it has Michael McDonald.
Yah Mo be there is so underrated. Such a soul classic.
Yes, with Michael McDonald. Ya Mo Be There
The late great Lou Rawls or Teddy Pendergrass would be cool to check out.
Lou Rawls' "Natural Man"!
@@AngelaGoodwin-fh6fw great song!
Thinking of a master plan… one of the coldest songs of the 80s, and one of my wife’s favorite songs
Her name is pronounced Sy E Ta Garrett. She co.wrote "Man in the Mirror." And duets with Michael on "I just can't stop loving you."
Dobie Gray- Drift Away
Toto's Georgy Porgy would be fire to hear Ryan!!!!!! Please review!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The back story to this video is the most hilarious thing ever! I love it! lol. For another R&B Banger, try Rene and Angela's "Your Smile".
Somewhere out there is a version of this song with Jermaine Jackson and....Whitney Houston. It was recorded and never released. If I remember the story, they recorded it first for Whitney's first album. But they decided not to release it after this version was released. I love Siedah but I think Whitney's vocals would have been fire!
Siedah also wrote I Just Can't Stop Loving You for Michael Jackson. She also wrote Man in the Mirror.
Eric B. & Rakim sampled this song and gave it the highest respect!!!!!!
One of the most prolific rap samples ever: sampled by Eric B. And Rakim "Paid in Full"
There are a lot of great soul/funk tunes from the 1980s. After being into Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne through the ‘70s, I jumped headfirst into the funk pool in the ‘80s - thanks largely to WKYS radio out of D.C. Next, try something like “I’ll Be Good” by Rene and Angela or “Risin’ to the Top” by Keni Burke. You’ll love them both, I gar-on-tee it! ☺️
Something else to add is "She's a Bad Mamma Jamma" by Carl Carlton. I know my sorority strolls to it when I was in college.
Si-e-da. She co wrote Man in the Mirror. And sung on I Just Can't Stop Loving You with MJ.
Love it so much….class!!❤❤❤❤
11:27 That reaction 🤣
The song is fantastic, but the music video is the gift that just keeps on giving 😘
1. It’s spelled S-I-E-D-A-H. 2. It’s pronounced SY-EEE-DAH. ✌🏽 (Ryan, this is a cookout classic ✊🏾)
R&B singers who can flat-footed sing DOWN like this today? Singers like K-Ci and JoJo Hailey from Jodeci, Anthony Hamilton, Johnny Gill....just to name a few...Gerald Levert (RIP) had it, he left us way too early...I wish these types of singers come back around to be the thing. Music really needs them right now..
Still waiting for Bobby Caldwell reaction .. what u won’t do for love.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great reaction, guys! 👍🏽I so *love* this song...what a banger!🔥🔥Great choice!! 🎶🕺🏽I love the music video too. Because of its popularity, there are several parodies of it here on UA-cam. #BringBackQualityMusic #RnB
😮 😯 😲 The comments section is about to be LIT. 😂😎🖤✌🏽 *_Its been surprisingly tame which is refreshing since usually on a rock centered reaction channel when the hosts pivot to an rnb song esp a blackety black one like this one the subs and the bots go crazy with the negativity_* 🙏🏼
Love this song.
I love this funky cheesy 80's video😂❤ Good song. Check out Alexander O'Neal "If you were here tonight"
Junior M.A.F.I.A. sampled this song on the remix of "Get Money" Featuring Notorious B.I.G.
Hot Boyz - Way Of Life
Paid In Full by Eric B & Rakim and Tupac Hit En Up
Bobby Caldwell , what you won’t do for love .. 🔥🔥🔥
I posted a few requests already ..
Also, TLC used that as a sample for "Unpretty".
Love this one! I was a waitress in a diner when this came out, spent half my tips playing this on the jukebox!
That was amazing, more of that
Being an old lady I can't believe that the first time I heard this song was when a John Hiatt cover of it was used in an X-Files episode.
Classic y'all. The bassline has been sampled in several notable hip hop songs - Eric B. & Rakim's "Paid in Full", Junior MAFIA's "Get Money", 2Pac's "Hit Em Up" and UGK's "Like a Pimp".
Great reaction, guys. Siedah Garrett was also the female duet singer with Michael Jackson on "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" (perhaps one of the best ballads in the 1980s). If you want to dive more into 1970s/1980s R&B/Soul, here are some options (not necessarily to react to in this order): Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love," "Where Is The Love" and "The Closer I Get To You" by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway, James Ingram's "One Hundred Ways," "Just Because" by Anita Baker, Jeffrey Osborne's "On The Wings of Love," Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgettin" (We're Not In Love Anymore), Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed" and "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life," Whitney Houston's "Didn't We Almost Have It All," Gladys Knight and the Pips' "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me," and Peabo Bryson's "If Ever You're In My Arms Again." Non-1970s/1980s Bonus song: The 2005 version of the song "One" by U2 and Mary J. Blige. Hope it might help bring some more classic R&B/Soul to the channel given how much you both seemed to enjoy this song.
Sorry, mind is racing on so many options. If you're looking to do more uptempo R&B/Soul/Funk songs from the 1970s and 1980s, here's another possible starter list (not necessarily in any order): "Good Times" and "Le Freak" by Chic, Donna Summer's "Last Dance," "Heaven Knows," and "This Time I Know It's For Real," "Superstition" and "Higher Ground" by Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall" and "Rock With You," Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know," "September" by Earth, Wind, & Fire, Blood, Sweat, & Tears' "You've Made Me So Very Happy," "If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman, "Never Gonna Give You Up" and "She Wants To Dance With Me" by Rick Astley, Phil Collins' and Philip Bailey's "Easy Lover," Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way," "Lady Love Me" and "Turn Your Love Around" by George Benson, and Prince's "Raspberry Beret." Non 1970s/1980s Bonus Song: "Don't Want To Fall In Love" by Jane Child (1990). Hope it helps.
She also sang the 1988 song, Ever Changing Times for the Baby Boom movie soundtrack. Aretha Franklin and Michael McDonald covered it in 1991!
His singing partner is Siedah Garret who also did the duet with Michael Jackson on "Man in the Mirror." You guys should do more R&B. There was
some good stuff in the seventies and eighties.
They should because they obviously love it!
Yup and Siedah co-wrote “Man In The Mirror”. ✌🏽
Actually the duet Garrett sings with Michael is "I just can't stop loving you"...which she didn't write. She does supply (some) backing vocals in 'MITM', which she indeed co-wrote. Both from the great "Bad" album.
@@gershman23Yup. I just think the original messenger meant the “Bad” album, not “MITM”.✌🏽
Thanks for the correction. You are right. Got my songs mixed up. Both were from the "Bad" album@@gershman23
Tavares, heaven must be missing an angel . Fire🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Chewing gum and singing at the same time...Seidah is hot in this. love it.
In the chorus they're saying Don't Look any Further in Swahili.
This song always reminds me of the time that I was on aerobics, when we had this record as a warming up. Those were the days, the eighties!
Okay never heard this before. I love it snd can’t stop listening to it now. We should do some teddy pendergrass like “ Love T.K.O.
Im shocked. The Kane Gang has this song on their Miracle album and it's the exact same arrangement. But was recorded years later. Fantastic version. I think a version of this song was featured in an X Files episode. Love it!
Your faces!!😂
This was fire when it hit!
You guys are Rush fans right? You should check out Max Webster. (band not a person) they were friends with Rush and opened over 200 of their concerts. Tons of talent. Another Canadian band that was huge in Canada, but never made it anywhere else. You guys will love them. Hangover, Toronto Tontos, Lily, High Class in Borrowed Shoes, Diamonds Diamonds, Astonish Me, Beyond the Moon, The Party, Paradise Skies, Night Flights, A Million Vacations, Let Go the Line, I could go on and on. They did a song with Rush once called 'Battle Scar'. That would be a good one to start with, but Max Webster on their own is killer.
Good one! I keep wanting to tell you to check out Al Jarreau .... We're In This Love Forever...you all would LOVE him. The added cool jazz with R&B ... guaranteed playlist 😁
Ryan, I beg of you, please do a video of this one: The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite) by Quincy Jones. Seidah, pronounced Sy-eee-tah, is a co-writer.
I have to say, I had never heard of this one. Love the reaction, guys! I think I got into R&B a couple years later and never heard it on the one station, WBLZ, that Cincinnati had that played R&B.
Not familiar with a lot of Temptations’ songs but I can definitely hear his voice in a couple of them. Not an R&B fan but I can’t deny this one really hooked me in. Very smooth.
Singers were way cooler back then , so simple , so talented..I was born too late
Funeral for a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding - Elton John
the old soul R&B classics are fantastic ( you should do more ) as an old 80s soul man this is a classic and your reactions to them are even better here are few more to try LOU RAWLS You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine/ sylvia striplin you can't turn me away / kenny burke risin to the top / lowrell - mellow mellow / teddy pendergrass love tko /Rose Royce - Magic Touch / william devaughn - be thankful / OLIVER CHEATHAM -Get Down Saturday Night.
Eric B & Rakim paid in full samples this
TLC unpretty don’t look any further remix uses this also
Fun fact: she cowrote Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror."
Yes! Killer tune!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Day o, umba day o, na jam bay um bay o….well don’t look any further.
Please do a review of Shalamar- Dancing in the Sheets!
_FOOTLOOSE_ soundtrack. _they have so many better songs btw_ ✌🏽
do "love zone" from Billie Ocean; ..............some awesome bass line and singing; u will dig!
Soooooo goood!
I thinks the hook is some African dialect translation into don’t look any further I suspect regardless it was and is the 💣💣 still takes me to my childhood and parents seeing my parents grove in the kitchen when it came on❤
Dennis Edwards, 6'4" of one fine man!
Dude loved the coke
Check out k.i.s.s.i.n.g or her duet with Michael Jackson - nice work boys
MORE R&B
Edwards was coked to the max that day. There wasn‘t even a chewing gum in his mouth, despite of these movements.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Luther Vandross - “Never Too Much”
Exact same vibe from the same era.
Please react to papa was a rolling stone Dennis Edward’s was the lead on it it’s amazing you’ll love it and those instruments 😮💨
pure +alen+.................no frills.......real deal
could be wrong, but I think it's Swahili they're singing, like Lionel Richie in All Night Long
😅👏👏👏 Smooth!😂Love it!
Just hear to let let everybody know
The Nortious big in the house
Was a great sample for biggie small
2Pac Hit Em up
In Swahili "Day-o day-o, mombajee ai-o” is loose translation to “Don’t Look Any Further”.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥that wink❤❤❤❤❤
Siedah (sigh-ee-duh). She wrote Man in the Mirror.
Looks funny already! 😊
Luther / never too much 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I only knew the 90s remake by M People. Funny that version is too 90s and this was too 80s
Wait till they realize this was used as a sample biggie
👍👍💯❤️❤️🔥🔥
You should do Sherrick - Just Call brilliant beat and vocals ❤❤
To me he has a very George Benson sound. You should try "give me the night" or " on Broadway" . Serious guitar tone on both...
Love George Benson
Do more R&B...Marvin Gaye "I Want You"...
Classic broer
Hey guys, just heard a cover of Separate Ways World's Apart by Daughtry and Lizzy Hale. Check that out. It is crazy good. Rarely ever have i heard a cover better than the original, especially compared to Steve Perry BUT. Try it.

Siedah (pronounced Sy EE DA)
Can you do Teddy Pendergras Turn Off the Lights? Very interesting video of woman being hypnotized by this man I think you all would enjoy it.
Please react to James Ingram w/Michael McDonald "Ya Mo Be There" and Lou Rawls "Natural Man".
80s cheese is the best! fashion, moves and music esp 1984!
Pronounced Seedah ❤
Where did you find this one again? I’d like to have seen Ty do this reaction with you.😅
