I have many friends in Vietnam today, they are very forgiving people. I have been invited back many times but don't have the money to go or the health anymore. I now suffer with Agent Orange today, but i teach English to so many kids in Vietnam today for Free. I have been doing it for the last 9 years now, that is my payback and it is like a therapy for me.

War is an awful and ironic thing. My Dad fought in Vietnam and came home pretty shook up. He refused to ever say a single bad word about the Vietnamese which I thought was so ironic because he was in a big fight during the Tet and saw some awful things. I think that his attitude showed tremendous character. After he retired, we lived in a small upper midwest town and some Vietnamese immigrants moved in behind us. My Dad not only allowed me to play at their house, he encouraged it. I can't even begin to imagine the horrors he saw when he was fighting and I am still in awe of his ability to not allow hate to overtake his heart.
At least these former NVA soldiers are letting go of the past and are getting along well with their former enemies, and becoming friends and pals with them, unlike those South Vietnamese veterans they are still stuck in the past and still have that hate within them that they don't want their kids to ever visit Vietnam because they still see them as the enemy. This video had just restored my faith in humanity.

Americans show the good and the bad of what they do. I watched the Vietnam War many times live on TV, as it was the only televised war and families in the United States could see their children fighting in the jungle of Vietnam. That's why I admire the Americans-just or unjust war they show. The same does not happen with Russia, which has entered into so many wars and has never shown, nor does it today, show its people the wars its military entered, or if it does, it only shows the positive side, knowing that what communists enter is never to liberate a people. . . There's American democracy. Vietnamese people love Americans regardless of whether there was a war in between, the same cannot be said about Russians being adored. That's why good always wins over evil.
That American GI that shot the Water Buffalo for fun knew that he couldn’t ever forgive himself inside even though he shared the stories many time with his friends and family. His confession to say sorry to all of the buffaloes he killed unintentionally was his first moment to start dying in peace as a great solider.
Im not a veteran but i visited Vietname twice on vacation as a tourist in the last ten years .. for me the Vietnamese are some of the warmest most welcoming kind friendly people i have every come across... it really is amazing the fact that they have no bitterness or hatred toward Westerners or especially Americans ... War is indeed a terrible thing.. Its caused by the stupidity of Governments and politics ... There is no need for human beings and young men and women from one country to kill those from another ..Vietnam is beautiful .. if you can visit there someday you won't regret it

It's unfortunate that we, (people of America) cannot find such a line of understanding and commitment, PRIOR to all the losses both sides faced! This touches me for being apart of my step dad’s family, all from Vietnam. Some of them were in the middle of the Vietnam War and migrated on small boats across the world. I’ve never had a chance to be in Vietnam, but my gosh, for the Vietnamese people I know, they are some of the most genuine, wise people I’ve met. This just reminds me of that.

Forgiveness is not an issue. As I said 1 year ago, we (Marines) were in competition with the NVA. Today, if I were to have the opportunity to meet someone that I competed with in 1968, I would offer my hand in respect.

When I went to Vietnam, I was shocked, I actually felt guilty (even though I'm team Ali). There is so much evidence of what we did to them but they were the nicest people. When you to the jungle you can see why we lost...
Time really does heal. Enough time passes and old hostilities that at the time were full of hatred, bitterness and anger are all gone and replaced with forgiveness, understanding and kindness. I absolutely love when old enemies come together and embrace. Maybe someday i too will do the same to anyone i currently harbor hostile feelings for.

Thank you all for being so brave,, I'm so proud to see you all break in the bread and forgiving each other and I always had the utmost respect for the Vietnam veterans I'm still in a lot of days weeks in the VA Hospital and Dallas and Waco and some of those guys are still over there mentally I'm glad to see some healing for once so we don't make the same mistake twice y'all have a lot of knowledge to share with the world please do it takes a big man to admit he's wrong God bless you all and especially the Vietcong for being so open forgiving it's contagious and makes me feel good and I am one tortured soul, thank you all for your sacrifices,,,
What are the Americans going to forgive VT vets for? The women and children of Vietnam was killed, burned alive and starved to death.
These men, both sides, were the same ones when young who had the "let's kill 'em" attitudes and the big egos. Look at them now, full of regret only finding comfort in relying on another man's forgiveness.
Let this be a lesson to anyone who thinks war is fun or that it's the only way to prove oneself. Otherwise, live with unforgettable mistakes.

Are you out of your fucking mind? Were you even there? I'm guessing you were not because a self respecting man would never shake hands with the likes of AQI, Baathist partisans, or the Mahdis. The same barbarians that killed thousands of Americans, used women and children as human shields, and committed unspeakable of atrocities against civilians on a daily basis. The ones we didn't kill were chased into Syria and founded ISIS...which as of now has been exterminated. You can't make peace with dead terrorists which is actually good news for you. They'd cut your fucking head off before the words "I'm sorry" even left your mouth. This was not an honorable foe, they are the ones who need to be forgiven.

Like me, Vietnamese people forget nothing (let's leave it behind) but forgive others and ourthemves for all mistakes we made. Take lesson from the past, put it in the back and go further in every days life and the future.

Time really does heal. Enough time passes and old hostilities that at the time were full of hatred, bitterness and anger are all gone and replaced with forgiveness, understanding and kindness. I absolutely love when old enemies come together and embrace. Maybe someday i too will do the same to anyone i currently harbor hostile feelings for.

Vietnamese are really resilient. Seen their Hoa Lo Prison oe Hell prison in Hanoi and it clearly shows how resilient those people.
Gosh! I can’t even imagine how terrible that war time was. It must be very terrible. I saluts to all these people, no matter which side they fought for, once they are brave enough to go to the battlefield, they are heroes. They have my respect.
