Music video by Simon & Garfunkel performing The 59th Street Bridge Song (Audio). (C) 2017 Columbia Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment vevo.ly/jiulOj
My first day of school my first class was music. The teacher taught us all to sing this song and what the word groovy meant. I have a tear in my eye as I write. Thanks Mrs. Lipard!
That's awesome! Same types of memories for me! We sang carpenters song "on top of the world" .. we all would get a set of sticks or a Block of wood with a stick.. a triangle.. Our teacher would play the piano and we'd all sing... I understand the tears.
When I was a young man, attending summer camp, we sang this every morning and the feeling of hope and love for life has never truly left me. When life is a drag and everything seems dark outside, this song always lifts my spirits.
Slow down, you move too fast You got to make the morning last Just kicking down the cobblestones Looking for fun and feeling groovy Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy Hello lamppost, what'cha knowing I've come to watch your flowers growin' Ain't you got no rhymes for me? Doo-ait-n-doo-doo, feeling groovy Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy I got no deeds to do, no promises to keep I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep Let the morningtime drop all its petals on me Life, I love you, all is groovy
I remember back in 72 as a five year old my brother and sister singing this song in Chior. Forty five years later as my brother was hospitalized and near death my sister sang the song to him again. Some things just stick to you you know.
@@michaelmorales4381 so sorry Michael, it's so hard to lose someone you love.💙You know where he is and when you rendezvous with him again you will both know the joy of reunion! Together again! For now, you can spend time with and make memories with your loved ones, so that you'll be able to get your brother caught up with where you've been and what you've been doing. Blessings! Michael
Rode on a bus over the 59th Street Bridge while visiting my sisters who still live in New York. My daughter (29) and two grand-daughters (5 and 9 years old) was with me. I played this song for them. I tried to make them understand how I loved this song and what it meant to me and so many people of my generation.
my grandma sung april come she will to my mom when she was a baby, my mom sang it as a lulluby for me, and in july I will start to sing it to my son (his due date). I remember hearing my grandma walk around her house singing this all the time. I love Simon Garfunkel and hope my son will love them too
my father was diagnosed with leukemia last year, He was always a Simon and Garfunkel fan. His sister bought this album back in 1969 in London England. He really liked it. I dedicate this song to my father.
my music teacher from kindergarten to 2nd grade would always sing this and have us join her when she would start class. hope you're doing well mrs. anderson, thank you for further instilling a life-long love of music in me
I am 73 and grew up through the fifties, sixties and seventies and that is where most music stops for me. I figure I grew up in the best three decades a boy/man could. For all you younger folk welcome to those decades. I do find it amazing that many youngsters are coming onto music like we grew up on, mainly because it is better than what is being called music today.
Musically it's a great time to be alive, still have access to the great music of previous generations as well as having some of the greatest songwriters of all time active today, just have to look for them
my mama calls me an old soul. I like the "music" we have nowadays but I really enjoy the older music. Jazzy style and upbeat songs from the 50-90s. Really great time periods.
Every time I listen to this song I imagine a scene like a child running here and there down the street and jumping through the puddles after spring rain. Probably the cutest song ever written.
My grandfather used to play this song for me almost every time I visited during my childhood. The upbeat, relaxing tone is him personified. Though dementia may have stolen his memories, his musical inclination never faded. Just 2 weeks ago my aunty filmed him playing the harmonica. Last month, he was singing along to Andre Rieu. My grandfather passed away last Friday, November 17th 2023. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s up there listening to Feelin’ Groovy, whistling along. I dedicate this song to him.
My Nana sang me this song all the time, just when there was a lull in the conversation. I mean it. In the car, gardening, cooking, playing cards, all the time. And I love her for it.
Found this song in the worst of times. I rollerskate and recently got badly injured. I was having breakdowns and was so upset because I can’t skate and started getting more sad as time passed and heard this song and made me realize…. I pushed myself too hard. I was trying to skate all the time and I was just going too fast. It also made me realize that I’ve put a lot of priorities off because of skating as well and I just need to slow down and enjoy life and take care of things that matter everything else. This song is amazing.
You were raised just right! I saw Paul Simon in concert about 15 years ago and (at 24). It was in Manhattan but I forget the exact venue. Wasn't Hammerstein. I was the youngest person in the audience. I was asked by a good dozen folks how I knew so many songs. I proudly replied, simply, "Mom and Dad." Many approving nods followed, with a few "Where are they?" "Home and jealous as Hell!" There were no follow-up questions.
This, is one of the MOST important songs of the ‘60’s,’ b/c it made people actually STOP, & FEEL, THE AIR, SUNLIGHT, & JOY INSIDE THEIR OWN BODY, something we rarely have done, if at all, SINCE.
I usually listen to kpop or punk, but hearing this before going to sleep or just to actually cheer myself up, It's so nice.. The fingerpicking and their voices together.. Ugh i love it
One night my brother came home from a night out and told me to listen to this. He was so excited about it. From there my love for S&G grew and 30 years later here I am, remembering that night.
I learnt to fingerpick listening to early Paul Simon's guitar and songs. Many years before UA-cam it took me months to learn to pick this song. Forty odd years later my fingers just love playing it and, simple as it is once you know it, it always wows a listener. Cobblestones were common when I was a kid in England, as were Victorian lampposts. When I finally got to New York and the 59t Street bridge I was astonished and appalled - not a cobble or lamppost in sight!! Ho hum, at least Bleeker Street is real!
Recently started exploring Simon & Garfunkel, maybe a few months ago. I love this song so much... Always puts in me a great mood, my favorite version of this song is the live one in Central Park but this one is really cool too!
Good for you. Hopefully they were before your time & now you’re getting into it. I was at that concert in Central Park nearly 40 yrs ago(9/18/81). Was a magical night. I was about 30 rows from the stages& distinctly remember Paul sneering singing ’feelin groovy’ that night. He was a little full of himself I guess.
This was the very first Simon and Garfunkel song I ever heard. It was 1966 and a camp counselor had the Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme Album. Every time I hear this I close my eyes and I’m back at camp.
Someone just said the word "cobblestones" to me and I had a flashback of being taught this song in music class in 4th grade in 1987. This is my first time listening to the real song and not the cover version played on the textbook company's cassette
this song makes me miss Annie Ethel McNeal even though she never played this song 4 me BUT she was a mom in the 60s and I feel like it's a mother thing to tell your child like 'baby, slow down your moving through life too fast' as you probably guessed, she was my grandmother. miss u grandma ❤️
🎼Excellent 🎶Melody with rhymes to match. Guitar🎸Chords are friendly, the melody is uncomplicated, as most catchy tunes are. And it's best, when played in 'G.'
My first day of school my first class was music. The teacher taught us all to sing this song and what the word groovy meant. I have a tear in my eye as I write. Thanks Mrs. Lipard!
Sounds like a very beautiful first day of school. ❤

My dad sang this to me growing up. I still hear his voice when I listen to it. He passed in 2017 at 58 years old. Miss him every day
my dads turning 62 this year so glad i have him in my life. Blessings to you and yours
I ❤ this song and the brilliant song writing team of Simon and Garfunkel.
This tune is a painted memory of my childhood.
Just feeling groovy.🎉

i’m so sorry is you brother ok?
He passed away. Battled for a long time but in the end he just wanted to go home to be with God.
I makka me cry

I was also 5 years old in '72. My oldest brother is 12 years older than me and he played this often.

This song automatically lowers my heartbeat, it's like magic
my father was diagnosed with leukemia last year, He was always a Simon and Garfunkel fan. His sister bought this album back in 1969 in London England. He really liked it. I dedicate this song to my father.
Short, sweet, pure. "Dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep", and that's just perfectly fine.
I heard this song for the first time in first grade back in 2004. Came to my mind today, 20 years later. Never heard it between those years
My Norwegian American grandparent’s church was on 59th street in bay ridge Brooklyn. It has great memories!
my music teacher from kindergarten to 2nd grade would always sing this and have us join her when she would start class. hope you're doing well mrs. anderson, thank you for further instilling a life-long love of music in me
Was she a hippie?
@@9852323 probably or raised by a couple lmao, her age was always pretty ambiguous to me at least
That is so sweet
That is so lovely!!
music teachers are the most important teachers in our lives. And in many cases, the most important PEOPLE in our lives.
Life when it’s exquisitely good embodied in a song ✨
Freshman year 77 Sang the song a lot 🙄 miss Norrick music class😂😂😂

90s wasn't bad too
I was raised on all the older songs. My mom has always been a big fan of Laura Nyro, Chicago, Judee Sill, The Beatles... all of them.
I'd guess you were born the same time as me, marecanine
... Class of 63?
Musically it's a great time to be alive, still have access to the great music of previous generations as well as having some of the greatest songwriters of all time active today, just have to look for them

You just can’t not have a smile to this song even if it’s just inside 😆

Dave Brubeck Quartet members Joe Morello (drums) and Gene Wright (bass) on this recording.
One of the best Simon and Garfunkel's album ever made!
My grandfather used to play this song for me almost every time I visited during my childhood. The upbeat, relaxing tone is him personified.

God bless. So sorry to hear.
listening in 2024 and still felling groovy
When I hear this song you can't help felling groovy/far out and funky too. Late 60's love it.
I'm 33 and I love this song way too much lol momma raised me on the best music.
Me too! Except the momma part :D
15
11 and this music gives me goosebumps, so good
Good Mama!
I'm the exact same age and my mother also introduced me to S&G
BTW: The great Joe Morello on drums and Eugene Wright on upright bass. Both from the popular version of the legendary Dave Brubeck Quartet!
Great song and great drumming by the old-time jazz master of Dave Brubeck's quartet, the one and only Joe Morello.
Is he related to Tom Morello?
@@SadChimchar tom Morello took his mother’s name. His father was a Kenyan political figure
Great nugget David. danka
In fact the incredible Eugene Wright (the double bass player in Dave Brubeck's quartet) also plays in this song.
I didn’t know! He’s brilliant, and it really shows here. Thnx for the tidbit!
Omg 😯 lived next to the 59 street bridge my whole life, thought this song was feeling groovy & never knew had anything to do with 59 st.bridge.
My Nana sang me this song all the time, just when there was a lull in the conversation. I mean it. In the car, gardening, cooking, playing cards, all the time. And I love her for it.
I sang this song to my daughters yesterday (2 and 4 years old), it's timeless, a song for the ages X
Always a favorite ❤
Feeling Groovy 🤸🤸♀️🤸♂️

Lucky the song inspired you that way. Normally life itself (and one's ability to see things clearly) does it.
You were raised just right!
I saw Paul Simon in concert about 15 years ago and (at 24). It was in Manhattan but I forget the exact venue. Wasn't Hammerstein.

My dad loves it, especially since his favorite film is the graduate, living in the 60s must be something extraordinary...
My anthem to cheer myself up. Works like a charm.
This, is one of the MOST important songs of the ‘60’s,’ b/c it made people actually STOP, & FEEL, THE AIR, SUNLIGHT, & JOY INSIDE THEIR OWN BODY, something we rarely have done, if at all, SINCE.
The only bone I have to pick with this song is that's it's too short. I would love it a lot more if they had the song go for another 30 seconds.
u cant have everything1!
Right click on the video and hit loop, problem solved!
You can always watch the Harper's Bizarre version. That's the first one I heard, but I'm old...…..….. :) ua-cam.com/video/FSqVtmfDDFg/v-deo.html
It seems faster than i remember
I prefer the Harper's Bizarre version, myself. It has a much more baroque pop sound to it, which I've always appreciated.
Listening to this classic song February 2022

One of their best tunes
A song that lifts up the spirit
Paul hates it and it does not change anyone else's opinion of the song
That's one happy jingle. It's hard to forget a jingle because the whole songs a hook. Great song, great time, alotta good memories.
The innocence of being young in the sixties, when life was simpler.
Or just being young in any decade, for that matter. Although I bet growing up in the 60s was pretty groovy ;)
So true, it was like a drug that I can't recreate!! I really enjoyed it while I could!
Dance with me!
1960?
Not if you were anything but white tho
So many wonderful memories with this song!!
I STILL LOVE THIS GREAT SONG! THANKS FOR SHARING! R.K. 3/16/2021.

Born in 1967. This and Raindrops keep falling on my head were my favorite songs as a pre schooler.
I love this joyful song.
A call waiting tone bought me here, love it none the less
I "discovered" Simon and Garfunkel in my early 20'S. That's the good thing about being young - all the discovery.
Pheelin groovy..
Sunny side of life
My summers day tune in my head.Wonderful feeling to the song.
This is truly the most wholesome of songs.
This song is way too short. Love it. Makes me feel better every time I listen to it. Been a long time since I felt groovy.

Setting here in Florida enjoying memories of growing up in Oregon.
Haven't heard this song since I was a kid. Had a dream in which this song was playing and had to listen to it again and again this morning.
Simon and Garfunkel’s music is legit asmr minus the whispers but it has that same calming vibe to it
“Life I Love You, All Is Groovy!” :)
bringing us together with classics like The 59th street wall song and Wall over troubled waters..
Bridge. Bridge over Troubled Waters.
My go to song for when I need cheering up
