Another wonderful cricket season draws to a close... The weather was damp all summer, yet not many matches were lost... as you said - had some fun...!
matt harris must be quite insulted that he got told to find first team cricket elsewhere to be replaced by spinners not anywhere near his standard
@@ihbif3f395 I think AJ is decent, just had an off day. Harris will be back next year.
Did that really happen? I wouldn't have thought a team of Sanderstead's standard or culture would be telling anyone to move on.
These spinners are OK but I do think a quicker, skidding and more accurate spinner is more value in this type of club cricket. Too easy to bang the slower, flighty bowlers around on a small ground.
FYI he left of his own accord - and he’ll be back the same way at some point

He went Valley End who’s 1st XI play 3 divisions higher, so doubt he went for 1st XI cricket. Fwiw he has mainly played 3s there.
[1] Thank you for all your hard work, Dan.
[2] The type of bowler you needed on that track, was young Liv, from the juniors. Obviously, not her, specifically, but a combination of line, length and swinging it like banana in conducive conditions is always a good thing.
[3] A previously comment made on a another game, I congratulated Sanderstead for how how they played Amara - clearly that went out the window. As you, yourself, noted, Dan - she came on too late - and, frankly, it reeked of: 'The games is done... so... who...' . I know when I was playing, I would have been right peeved, as a frontline bowler, being tossed the ball with 7 wickets left and 6 runs needed...
[4] It really appeared that 'staff absences' really did your firsts in this year... they were going so well.
Random bonus question:
Do you ever get a really talented quick bowler coming through the leagues/ village cricket these days, or do they all get identified and snapped up by County academies at the first sign of talent at a young age?
Absolutely agree with point 3, very disappointing.
If I was Amira I would be looking for a team that gave her a chance, she was treated quite badly imo especially given the woeful bowling by the rest.

Really pleased for Kempton. Obviously they wanted and needed it more. Looking forward to the sunday filth. Strange season due to the unavailability. Simon Clare looked good with the bat Dan. Always stays cool and seems to have time to play his shots. Should be fun next season with you know who coming up. And they are very good btw lol. Thanks as usual for the great coverage. Hope the weather holds out until the end of september. Has Matt Harris played at his new club this season, as i havent seen his name mentioned. All the best Dave

The Sunday filth is glorious! Although they should have got that lass on bowling earlier this game, she bowled brilliantly last video I saw.

Always a shame when the season draws to close. With a whimper not a bang. I remember Grays having a cricket bat factory in Benson St here in Cambridge and indeed had the only sports shop in town. I assume they merged to become Gray Nichols. I could be talking twaddle 9,it sometimes happens. Thanks for all your efforts this season Dan and maybe some Sunday filth to get us through the winter.

Last game and it had no bearing for us so a few had a day off with families etc
Cricket eh...2023 we celebrated triple promotion for our 1s 2s and 3s, including the championship for our firsts. This year, triple relegation...university, GCSE exams and injury did for us. For me, 8 ducks including 4 first ballers, bowled off spin ok (if too slowly) at times in my second year of bowling right handed after my left shoulder and right ankle went. Love the videos Dan!
Thanks for this - you’re so right, you just never know what might happen, but at our level it is important to simply enjoy the ride! At least we are consistently brilliant at that 😂

Our 2nd to last game is cancelled today due to rain. With the league team finishing last week our Friendly team had probably the most balanced side I've ever seen, rather than 8 bowlers, 2 batsmen and a WK, we have 5, 1 and 5. Hope they're around next week and the weather is good.

On behalf of the S.C.R.O.A.T.S thanks for another season of outstanding coverage. Like to throw a question out there from someone who played in the generation when the only excuse for missing a game was death and that was only acceptable if you had a doctor's note "when did you notice the availability start to change?" for me it was early 2000's friend and I ran a football team, and he rang me to say you won't believe what reason I've just been given for missing Saturday, "I am going to buy a sofa!!"
I reckon for us, the change happened when we had more married/engaged players than not - around 2019. Before then everyone was available other than major life events and injuries. Remind me what SCROATS stands for?

Thanks Bob - yes, 2s are down but they were in a high division and couldn’t sustain the quality level. It might be a good thing for us in hindsight

That’s where she does most of her cricket (Surrey), sadly she can only play for us very occasionally.
As I sit here having my bacon and eggs, waiting for the live feed of my sons state championships to start. I am watching the last Saturday game and wondering what happened to Mickey McNicol? I thought he returned to play for Sanderstead , ordinary bowling performance by the lads.
There was a visa issue and he had to go back to SA - such a pity.
I don't know how to feel about that performance. Lacking would be the obvious opinion, disinterested? Maybe, it would have been a good time to blood some more of the youngsters (dead heat for you position wise). I've also never understood the batting mentality of "oh theres a fielder over there, let me just hit it over his head" every time. It very rarely comes off every ball and you throw away wickets for ego boosting.
Season is finished, time to sit back and analyse it fully and definitely find ways to improve.

A game of no consequence seemed to be treated that way. Far be it from me to suggest otherwise but everytime mara has played she has done a cracking job at the begining or middle part of a game. When i saw she was playing and watched the conditions I assumed she would open the bowling. A little disappointed to be fair that she was left to bowl the final over - what was the point of her playing? Always good content - thanks for all your efforts this year.
I would have opened with her, too - but I don’t think anyone expected us to only bowl 15 overs! The Kempton lads were driven by survival instinct and blew us away - fair play to them.

Black Knight Bats was run by Bob and Johnny Longcock - neither have the time anymore so it’s not promoted. But it’s a viable brand and sold well due to channel promotion

Well taken win by Kempton; way the better side on the day. Their bowlers fully exploited the helpful conditions they had and the batters were for the most part positive and aggressive. The home side was pretty average. I'm sure the beer still tasted pretty good though.
You’re absolutely right - just shows the power of motivation when one side has it (to survive) and the other can’t get any change in league position whatever they do.
You mentioned that you lost Alfie and Mikey Dan, what happened to them?

Sad indictment of the standard of cricket being played at Sanderstead when the most naturally gifted cricketer on the pitch is a girl! She has a great cricket brain, and deserves a captain who recognises that.

What an absolute joke of a bowler, I’m going to report him to the league for that behaviour … having fun in this sport is a complete disgrace… that arrogant penguin shouldn’t be playing this sport !!!
