The Wisdom of Odin is a vlog of my journey through Norse Paganism, a way to assist others along their journey, and a place to promote a positive image for all of paganism.
While I personally declare myself as a Norse Pagan, I speak on topics that also involve aspects of Asatru, Heathenry, and other pagan identities such as Slavic/Celtic/Germanic paganism.
The Wisdom of Odin is not associated or affiliated with any orginizations religious or politcial in nature. This channel/community is inclusive to all but is also non-political.
All gatherings held through the Wisdom of Odin and its extended community are private events held and organized by the members of the community. The only service the Wisdom of Odin provides is a place to connect with others of similar beliefs in the old ways.
Jacob: "Go Outside"
*HE SAID THE THING!!*
Step 1: Follow The Wisdom of Odin
Step 2: Drink a horn of mead every time Jacob says “Go outside”.
ill be dead... but worth it
step 3: drink a horn of meat everytime you go outsite
Welp
I only go out on cloudy or rainy days, the longest. Yeah, I'm antisocial and an inside person. The opening made me laugh and say "Yeah, no" xD
"We took the sacredness out of nature and put it up in the skies or completely disregarded it". - Einar Selvik
I think your point of becoming equal with nature is spot on!
If Einar said it than it is true.
I was hoping for "go outside" *end credit* , and Jacob didnt disappoint lol.
Yeah lol yeah it’s good
No joke you got me for a minute with that intro
Me three! I actually checked how long the video was LOL
Me four.
And that outro, though...
"Until the Hall... GO OUTSIDE!"
Him: “Go outside”
The outside where I live: -20 degrees celsius
Bundle up and go anyway :)
Then that might be the call of Skadi saying to you to go out and experience the wonder of winter and snow.
where i live: 35+ degrees celsius with bushfires in sight of where i live
@@veganpaddler just about a week ago, while I was at work-- I made a point to take a quick break to go outside and just watch the snow fall, occasionally leaning my head back just a bit to feel the snow on my face.
10/10 great break.
It was amazing.
I love her.
@@veganpaddler My comment was a joke but in the instances that it actually is that cold here it can be dangerous to go outside for too long haha
Absolutely agree. Not that I always can meet those expectations but it’s always a work in progress.
People forget the power of getting lost.
We value understanding and trying to know everything a bit too much.
UA-cam : is there anything we can do to help your experiencewith you tube
Me: *clears throat* why wasn't i notified of this video....
One of the best videos on our beliefs that I've seen recently. Yes, you can't copy and paste a name to a different belief, whenever they are not the same.
Thank you for this. After 30 years of Christianity, it’s hard to forge new ways. But this is so simple, and straightforward.
😊
Yes get to know the nature around you. Go outside! I completely agree. As a witch & pagan what helped me as far as reading material was books on plants, trees & animals in my area. Field guide books helped me get to know the species around me & in turn gave me a deeper connection with them & the old ones.
It's all nature spirits, the gods are just the big ones.
That's basically how I practice it, thanks for summing it up really easy
yess, paganism is based on animism
I REMEMBER WHEN THIS GUY HAD 1000 SUBS. So proud
I was inspired by watching this video last night, i went out for a walk. It was midnight, -22 degrees celsius, pitch black, nothing but dark woods around me, the starry sky, northern lights and lots of wildlife and spirits up and about. It really helps you to connect with the spirits and nature when you go out at night, when you have to rely on other sences rather then what you see.
I had something small with me that ran after my feet when i was walking, i would guess a gnome/tomte or smallfolk or a guardian spirit of some kind. I could here it's small footsteps and feel it's precense.
It's amazing how connected we can be when we let go of our distractions of daily life and just go out and live.
I also had some scary experinces, like hearing something sneak around among the trees, a bloodcurling scream echo throug the dark woods. Probably(hopefully) a couple of lynx or roe deers fighting and not a demon.
I heard a big noise right behind me, like a gunshot probably a big animal ran up behind me from the woods. it took me a couple of seconds to get home after that. Haha!
Keep doing what you are doing, follow your path, stay magical. Skål!
I find the vikings tv show a history show. It teaches me so much about the north men. Their raids, their gods, their life.
I love the point of "go outside". Disassociating ourselves from the mundane is key. Get away from the day to day, as it is. Also, if I may add. Spend time alone. (Outdoor activities by yourself). You'll learn to rely on self. The people you meet or the things you encounter will be an f ton more rewarding. I have been a heathen since I was 18 at 34 this still stands true to me. Following our all father for almost four years the only people close to this is Wicca
Great blessings
This is right on with the need of nature with in one's daily life. To fined are place in the nature witch we are part of.
I discovered the same thing. Go to a trail, get on the water, observe the rocks, trees, and land formations around you, and respect Mother Nature.
Me: *goes outside*
"Its cold"
*walks back inside*
Yep, I love the winter and cold weather, but sometimes I'd rather love it from indoors with a cup of coffee!❤️
@@terismith2461 Wear warmer clothes
@@danielbergersen4459 Yes, but my coffee gets so cold so quickly!!😁
@@danielbergersen4459 Sorry, just messin' with ya❣️ I'm an old Wisconsin lady and I can't imagine life without snow!!
I had a dream of ravens then later that day I saw ravens in the sky circling something. Then I see your video. I feel this is a sign from Odin to tell me to take this path.
every time i see these videos, i get goosebumps when they begin and end, and everything you say resonates within me, dear sir i am strengthening my skills of woodcraft, blacksmithing and the likes, when you sound your horn i will come and help create and decorate our hall so we all may worship in a safe space as a community, you are an amazing human being, and until we meet i leave you this: Skål!
So true words. Connect with your sounding nature an you can feel presents the gods. I had an encounter with 2 big ravens last time when I was hiking. It felt like they were following me to the peak. I immediately thought of Odin's ravens.
Nothing is true, and every is permitted,Full Eirmurshion is required! If you want the full benifit of the northern mysteries, and have some fun, make a little money, and Help someone along the way. .....
Oh and let's not Ever forget, Freya Norling, she is wonderful and the Real thing, as in Nordic Witch! and her Brilliant Husband Daniel, very good folk!!!👍👍👍
Yes!!! I agree. I may not live in a rural/rustic area, i always start walking home these days just to observe how close it is to spring! Nature is so pretty even if its a little!
Good morning Jacob from California ☕ I apperciate your insight.
him: go outside
my government: do you have 1000 bucks just laying around because that's how you end up with a 1000 bucks fine to pay
I can't thank Jacob enough. His 1st video found me at exactly the right moment. He is a very important part of my journey.
This is the best video describing the meaning behind paganism I've ever seen. So simple, yet so meaningful and strong.
Thank you so much your videos have helped me a lot
Great video and great advice. I have always felt drawn to nature. Even as a child, my favorite thing was to wander the fields and woods near my home and explore what wonderful secrets nature had in store for me to discover. There is magic in nature - I feel it all around me every time I go outside and just look and observe. I have been raised a Christian my whole life, but I feel much closer to God in nature than in a church. Nature is my church. I have been reading and researching about Norse Mythology and Paganism and feel drawn to it. There seems to be so much honesty and truth in it. Thank you for your videos.
Great video as always bro! Keep your saga going! Skal!
I’ve been saying I was a Norse Pagan for years now but I never knew how to go about it. Hel, I even say that my “patron god” is Freyr but I see that the gods have blessed me with this video as a recommendation.
By Odin’s beard, I am truly blessed.
Look forward to every video you post! Keep up the great work for our faith!
I raise a horn to honor you for what you have done for this faith! Keep up the epic work!
Walking outdoors has solved many of my lifes problems. More than going to work has.
I cannot explain how much i love this
The second part of this hits my thoughts 100%.
Jacob in his video: "Go outside"
Me alone in my house: "is that it?!"
I would recommend the wanderers havamal, it’s a translation that uses more modern language and may be easier to get more out of it then the archaic language some translations use.
Nature on one hand manifests as a distinct objective reality which moves to the beat of it's own drum, regardless of how much we would like to imagine ourselves as above it or it's rules. On the other hand, we have our unique subjective experiences, and no one hikes the same trail twice. As a complex of spirits and entities, nature deals with us collectively and as individuals simultaneously. It's a great thing, and thanks again for a great video that inspires introspection.
Living in the most beautiful country (geographically) in the world helps, too :)
Everything you say, Jacob, sounds true to me, keep spreading the wisdom and the word, till the hall!
I really respect your content I am slowly becoming a Norse pagan I really agree with your beliefs and I think I will start following this path
I think this is one of your best videos
continue like this and mostly Skål
Best video I've seen on this channel.
I guess this was my sign today to just do it. Thank you for your wisdom!
I began w the study of havamal, words of the high one, and of course get back to nature. Our paths are our own and we honor our gods w our deeds.
I think this is my favorite videos so far. I've been watching your journey chronologically and I think this has been the most motivating and truthful one yet. Your an inspiration Jacob 😀.
Always happy to hear when people start at the beginning and work their way up. I’m the years to come I think that will be the most important part of my content. It started so simple and has grown so much. And yet I like to keep the messages simplistic like this video.
It’s been an amazing journey! Excited to see what’s next!
Agreed! The early videos when everything was new (yet old) and small. You have grown both spiritually and in popularity but you are still so humble. I'm glad I found you before you get huge! Bc I know you will my friend :).
Odinist here in southern Utah( dead center Mormon-ville) and hiking is one of my favorite activities for connecting spiritually to the gods and goddesses
I feel Odinns presence most in nature😃!
Jacob, I am going out side. Not to the Highways, no, no, no !!! But to the forest, and to give Odin an offering, A beer! Skal💀🍻. Thank you for the great teaching on THE OLD WAYS !
He had us in the first half not gunna lie...
Thanks Jacob.. appreciate it so much.
I loved this!!
Extremely well put!!! I have been a pagan for 30 years now just wished I would have been from day one...I live for nature!!!
I constantly love the way you look at life and constantly grow my attention to this path. I had a dream when I was real young that I would go find a place to live primitive with several people and live from our own skills and working together. My goal is to do it by 2025 hopefully. I’d like to do it sooner
Best advice to someone new walking out path
you're such a good speaker
I almost turned my back on a religion / spirituality. Then I discovered paganism is still alive, any belief system that Christianity and Islam wants to wipe out, has to be a good one.
There is so much YES in this video
Instead of me watching the videos I used to watch i watch more of your channel
Keep up the good work, Jacob. Would like the opportunity to chat with you some day.
Break the chains of what you think is reality and get out there and see nature. Feel it take you over. Let the spirits of the nature consume you. #GOOUTSIDE
I live in south Louisiana, my family is Catholic through and through, and I'm a Druid; I feel your advice is true to any belief. Nature is for every path and belief. My family practices the roseary every night, and I see it as a ritual to extend healing magic(s) to all in need, so in essence nature and what you said is for anyone who wants t explore the mysteries of their God(s)
Oh gee just only 18 months, imagine if he started his journey earlier in life, I love his ,wow! I love his excitement, this is wonderful, as an old northern germanic animalistic shaman, welcome my brother it good to meet you, we've been waiting for all of our brothers and sisters to open their eyes and learn and come home, like Dr Hyatt said back in the early 90s, are you ready for this. ..just do it,! 🙄
"You're feeling disconnected because you're meant to find your own way."
I have been pagan for 20 years and that hit me like a damn truck. That was gold, Jacob. Well done.
In Norway we have a very close relationship with nature. In the Bible, nature is almost totally absent. The old Gods were the forces of nature. Greetings from Norway.
How can I convert myself to Asatru? And is there a possibility to log this somewhere?
Can you maybe do a video about Baldr also? Like about him what offerings he wants and stuff like that
"Stop at a Cracker Barrel"... I got off of work at Cracker Barrel when this video came out, and I laughed
Best video to date!
100% agree with you when you start putting in organization and money that’s where faith ends
Excellent advice yes the written text is important but it is about connecting with nature and through nature we connect with the Gods. And you having to walk that path 2 individuals will be drawn to different things but it’s that draw or inspiration to those things that makes paganism so interesting.
Nature is the best way to connect
Unrelated, but in your offering video, you mentioned there being runes in your offering bowl. What runes did you put?
Never lose faith fellow Asatru brother
Pagans(whichever belief you are) is like the biker on old forgotten highways. Riding along at 50 mph just savoring the sights and weather along the way. Instead of being on the interstate
Jacob i had a dream of odin and maybe loki i am not sure. but i am going to learn more about the gods hopefully.
I have watch many of your vids and i feel more connected to norse gods and goddesses than believing or being a catholic
Jacob: "go outside"
Me: looking at the Hollywood sign
Been there I believe it’s ravens run in Kentucky. You should check out American gods everyone. Odin is literally a main character along with a bunch of other deities.
I feel like I long for connecting with nature as my research into norse paganism begins I must agree nature is something humans don't take time to appreciate anymore
Thanks
what other channels would you recommend to learn more about norse paganism ? are there any specific websites that have good information on this religion ? do you have any advice for people (like myself) who were raised in the christian religion but want to make the transition into norse paganism ?
i’ve also gotta say, thank you so much for what you do. you’ve helped me to realise that norse paganism is the path, not only i want to follow, but the path that’s meant for me. skål
Try Freya Norling you tube....another great Norse information channel.
@@trents_tower thank you random citizen of earth !
Religions are about the external afterlife destination, paganism and heathen ism is about the journey - both internal and physical.
lmao lost my shit when he did thr false ending
Ive been a fan of norse mythology for about 2-3 years now and i would very much like to get more into it, i would like to kind of surround myself with these symbols and i would like to know if anyone knows some really good online shops that sell good quality norse pagan products like accesories, decorations, etc.
You just made my life easier. I loved the fact that we need to go out in nature and not put our pagan path over a map of Christianity.
this is true. hiking is very purifying. and psycologists advice that since the early 19th century to theyr patients. earthing reduces stress and clear the mind. thats why you can better connect to higher beings by hyking.
excellent channel
My problem going outside is that where I live there aren't much places to do this kind of exploration... how should I try to connect with the gods?
Urgh, I hate living in the city and not being able to drive. I can't just go for a random walk in the woods, I've got to plan for about a week and make sure I've got train fare to even get somewhere close to woodland.
And I haven't been able to do that thanks to lockdown.
So tired of everyone saying Heathenry is the religion with homework. In my experience all forms of Wotchcraft amd Paganism come with homework. Especially like in my case , started off as an Eclectic Wiccan working with the Gods of the Vanir and these days I focus more on my Native Herotage
I loved the end w the paterons so much that was so cool to see you revere the land
Definitely go outside though!
#GoOutside!
This may be a little late, but is there a way I can talk to you directly, I have some questions
I wear Thor hammer daily and was recently in a fight for criticism any help on avoiding these things
I knew it was gonna be go outside, didnt expect a false "that's all" but it was funny
Jacob, Well Said! Go outside to the forest to seek the Gods, the Land Spirits, and our ancestors Skål💀🍻
I really need to buy a snowsuit. It’s so damn cold here.
he says go outside when its currently midnight for me-
Midnight walks are super grounding
Help my parents are very against norse paginism and i cant have shrines or cant have time to leave and talk to the gods what should i do??
I felt like Christianity was too Fast paced and it is why I left that and now I am starting my journey into Norse paganism
