For genuine mixing as well as scratching this was the best vinyl mix i ever saw at DMC from '85 - '89, this was the first of this style. Brilliantly done. In fact he was robbed really, Chad was more entertaining but this mix was by far the best.. The It's time seg is perfection
Joes performance in 87 was legendary!! He even has the decks positioned battle style before DJ Cash Money did the following year. I have this final on vinyl which DMC pressed up but it’s the first time I’ve seen the video. Thanks for uploading!!
He probably got the idea to put the turntables sideways where the toanarm is horizontal by watching DJ CASH MONEY at the New Music Seminar battle in 1987. Cash Money was the first to do it.

+Nik Rico (JC) I use to have one of these in the early 90s, except the handles were different and mine had a mic input in the upper left corner. plus the inputs were in the back not underneath of the mixer. (was the one in the video,we're the inputs underneath the mixer?) because I remember jammaster Jay had one like this and I always wondered were the hell are the inputs? sadly I don't have this mixer anymore because one of my dj friends seen it and wanted it so bad he was willing to trade it for a five disc cd player. funny thing is he ripped me off, and I never got the cd player. but one day I got even with him and never paid him for a dj gig we had together. (it weird because the other night I was thinking about that mixer, would of been nice to still have it)
Haha, cool story ;) Karma!! Yer i had one, gave/swapped to a close friend and he lost it to aGF's brother...Sucka!! :D The outputs are on the bottom but not down facing, will check vid again but im sure (from what my foggy brain remembers) that all the dj's in 87 DMC had to all use the same mixer, being the GLI...Here's a piccy of the bottom. thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images2/1/0211/03/gli-pmx-9000-preamplifier-mixer-dj_1_f7a410d29a1714b658eff47cab306d28.jpg

Only just noticed that! This has to be the first time this was done?
This mix alone should have won, just so clean & well worked out.

Great to hear this again after all these years, first time I've seen it.
Top selection & mix.
This mix should have won alone.
I don't think I've heard a cleaner / smooth transition mix in any of the DMC comps.
absolutely mindblowing

I knew about this cat back in the days. He was legendary in the 619!
Never seen or heard this one. Perfection. He should have beaten Chad Jackson without a doubt! This was so clean, a beautiful little mix.

This was back in the day before they figured out that a DJ's set up doesn't have to be on 2ft. high tables lol

Could this be the first dj to scratch hamster style?
Poor guy was as nervous as fuck
First time turntables were set "battle/philly/sideways" style in a DMC?
Perfect!)

Damn, that mixer he's using is wild! Anyone have an ID on it?
you notice his mixer sockets are under the mixer? not in the back.
Its a GLI Pmx9000 19" rack mixer, hugely popular back in the day ;)
