Without question the best single fishing podcast I have watched. Simply outstanding. Also, Sanders & Z are unquestionably the best tandem for sportfishing coverage in the history of the sport. My main comment regarding the content of this particular podcast is this. Zona made the statement that a pro told him several years ago that he didn't have the right to comment about some of the issues facing the sport because he is not a "pro". Nothing could be further from the truth. Mark Zona and Dave Mercer are the consummate professionals in this industry. Both make their living in the sport, know the sport inside and out and they both even have nationally recognized tv shows! So yes, both are "professionals" in the field of sportfishing and are immensely qualified to comment on any issue or subject they so choose when it regards any area of professional fishing. Congrats on an unbelievably good weekly podcast, Dave. I enjoy and look forward to it every week.
Bassmaster is THE BEST! What I like the most is Bassmaster televises their tournaments which INSPIRES PEOPLE TO GO BASS FISHING & WATCH THEIR CONTESTANT'S WIN, for those of us who are unable to go watch the Tournaments. It reminds me of ABC's old WIDE WORLD OF SPORT! You DO NOT WANT TO MISS IT!

This my thoughts on the forward facing sonar. You have a ditch to dig that’s a 100 ‘ long 3’ wide and 5 ‘ deep. You have 8 hrs to get the job done . Are you going to use a shovel or a backhoe?
You guys make Bassmasters so much fun! Thanks for all you guys do for the sport. As far as Poche it is kinda cool some of the things he does. I don’t know what the right answer is on that particular topic. I understand both sides but if it’s within the rules then I say let the man do his thing. If not then I guess there will have to be a new “Poche rule “. Great podcast Dave!
You guys are right on with how it could effect sponsors. Bass Pro who knows how tournaments work pulled out of one of the walleye events after the walleye thing happened. Sponsors will get tired of this crap and THEY WILL eventually pull out. Especially in this economy when companies are looking for ways to spend less. And if the fans are seeing all this happen, they'll actually applaud those companies for taking a stand.
Love you guys. I'm almost 50 and I've been bass fishing since I first saw a 5Lb LMB a guy caught at Black Lk in WA when I was around 7. He caught it on a 9" rainbow trout he caught from the dock. I was like why would I want to keep fishing for 9" planter trout when I can fish for the monster that eats them. You guys keep up the good work you do making bass fishing Great.🎣

Dave, this episode is in my top 3 favorite of your shows with the KVD and GMAN shows being the other 2 of the top 3. Also, I’d pay good money to hang out with you, Zona, and GMAN. Y’all the best in the business.
It needs to be cheaper so the average guy can compete. But I love it. I fished with one recently, how could you not love it. Next level.
I think you will see that happen. Usually technology comes down in price once it’s been out for a while. Hopefully that starts to happen soon

You know once a cheater, always a cheater. Luckily for those involved, I'm not enforcing the rules. You get caught, you'd be out for life!
As far as FFS, Imo only, it's not fair to the fish. Totally enjoy my love for slingin a bait w/o it. As far as learning more, yea you know and can see where the fish are. Duh. What's the challenge after that? Definitely not siding w washed up Blaukut, but it is and will be a detriment to fishing. For all species.

A buddy and me were just talking about this and how the punishment for blatantly cheating was completely disqualifying someone from that one and future events like Seth was saying on the podcast with you imagine how much it would change

As someone who is passionate about fishing and its entirety, it's a slap in our face to sit and watch someone blatantly bending the rules for their own self gain. It's bullshit . All who was involved should have been reprimanded. Not just one. But that's my two cents. I'm enjoying the podcast as I drive to Lake Norman. I appreciate yall Mercer and Zona! Tight Lines & Be Safe!

This has been on my mind for a long time. When people say “growing the sport”… Sadly in the area some people live. We have several smaller lakes and bodies of water. Most of these bodies of water are owned by State. However!!!,,,,, they really do not hardly ever stock them yearly, every of year, (nor every 5 years with Bass. IF….. (Big IF) they do stock any of these lakes it’s usually trout to have a trout derby. Sometimes they stock catfish or crappie. But our lakes are not only sometimes pressured but are not stocked or managed very well. So when anyone goes fishing at these places and if you do catch some they are about a pound. If you get lucky sometimes (very rarely) find a 2,3,4 pounds. So, if you want to grow the sport we need to figure out how to get different states to actually use the fishing license money we spend every year on actually restocking the lakes we fish well and not just a couple of the popular lakes. We need better bass management. There are some lakes that even smallmouth could thrive. They are deep clean reservoirs. But we do not have any. But I do truly wish the lakes were at least stocked a little better. They are out there and it’s a grind. But I really think if some of the smaller lakes were stocked a little better they could really succeed and thrive to where it would draw more people towards bass fishing. The younger people don’t want to catch one or two 12” bass per outing. They want to catch what they see pros catch. I don’t know. That’s my rant. I love bass fishing either way.

IMO part of the reason the “bad news” gets swept under the rug is that the anglers are responsible for their own income. They’re not paid athletes on the teams payroll. If the news get dumped that So and So failed a poly, chances are he may loose his contract. I’m all for it, those things should be aired out asap.

An excellent show! Really enjoyed all the stories/information you both shared. BASS live @ St.Clair was very good. You two make a great team. The most important & critical subject you both discussed was the obvious rule breaking & the minimum hand slapping penalties.🤬 All Tournament organizations MUST BE transparent! As one of you stated even if life jacket penalty near a dam during practice all details (who when where why) must be made public. Until that happens bass fishing will never be a true professional sport.
I must admit that I've always thought the grebe was oversold by Oregon. When you hunt elk with a bow, you'll go for it.

Tommy and Z are great together. They could read the phone book and I'd listen. Tommy does a superb job of keeping the train on the tracks and Z works hard to derail it (in a good way). And that formula works really well.
People always say “don’t meet your heroes”……I have been lucky enough to meet Zona and Aaron Martens. Both men lived up to their reputation. Now I need to share a beer with Dave Mercer to complete the trilogy.

Hey Mercer is the prize money gonna go up soon you think? Been the same since 96'. Every other sport has updated their purses including ladies golf. These guys are at the pinnacle of fishing in 2023 and still make the same as almost 30 years ago it just shocks me. Love what you do for us the only bad part is their not more tournaments ❤🐟🤘

Zona is a legend man. I could listen to this guy talk fishing all day. Truly a gift to the fishing industry as are you Dave wouldn't be the same without ya. And as far as the grey area stuff it's not just in fishing it's life today if one person gets away with something everyone thinks they can do it and if no one does anything about it it's not gonna get better. Punishment seems to be a thing of the past. Anyway great podcast and good for you and zona and feider for talking about this stuff someone's gotta do it 👍👊
Good stuff guys! There should be one tournament non livescope or non electronics on the circuit. Mix it up and show different skills of anglers. If you're the best angler, you should be able to fish any method to catch fish. Two, the platforms need to release the fish after weighing. Stop live-welling the fish and bringing them to weigh in. Third, minimize fishing tournaments during the spawn. Also, if the marshals need to enforce the rules, make sure they are trained to do so. And Z is right, transparency and safety is the way. Transparency is promoting integrity in this industry and safety ensures people are safe and limits accidents. Acting and enforcing rules in these ways will result in positive momentum in the industry.

There is enough drama in the world and I really have lost interest in watching live from both series because of the drama. Fishing for me is all about the challenge of patterns and catching the fish. I've dedicated a life of nothing but fishing and the drama just sucks. I want more attention on the technique of the winners and the not so winners so you can compare the two. Great show as always. If Zona was on every show I would definitely still watch.
Well I appreciate you watching & you know what. I hate the drama too. This was just a real conversation between two real friends.
The bottom line was Poche jumped dry land and it was against the rules. The safety angle is a little pointless, because bass anglers take risk every tournament. Running in lakes with stumps at 78 mph, rollers on the Great Lakes, getting stuck on sand bars, the list goes on. The aluminum boat doesn’t bother me because he is at a disadvantage in tournaments too. What’s the difference with that and guys having forward first, or people that made a career getting information.

I like MLF but I think ultimately the problem with the league is it has anglers in ownership roles. So naturally they try and protect the anglers almost to the detriment of league. Rules are rules and if you break them there needs to fines, suspensions and it NEEDS to be public.

Great show! Both organizations need to step up. Bass should have punished several fishermen for cheating in the past. Both organizations don’t hold their favorites to the same standards. They also bow to sponsors.
Dave. My thoughts if you have to cheat the rules there is no reason to play the game. I don’t want to win that way. Fishing is pure no reason to cheat the game. Could not sleep knowing I won by cheating.

Love me some Zman. He is definitely the godfather of Bass fishing coverage. MLF doesn’t want to attack there Tom Brady’s and Mahomes no offense. I think if you get caught breaking rules on purpose you should be kicked out period. That sends messages loud and clear.
I think the catch and release has bitten us in the rear as far a big fish catches. My theiry iis the fish to bait ratio. I may be totally wrong but thats the way I see it.
Regarding FFS: I don’t hate it. But as a fan there’s certain tactics that are less fun for us to watch. I think watching spawning tournaments are the worst, because at least with FFS you now have the screen for us to see what the angler is looking at. I’d love if tourneys went away from sight fishing seasons all together. What is fun as a fan can be different than as an angler.
Fear of losing current sponsors.... fear of not attracting new sponsors

Love you Zona and Mercer but I gotta support Poche on this one. if it is a blatant rule violation then he shouldnt be doing it obviously. I don’t know the rules well enough to tell if he broke them or not. I hate the excuse that he shouldn’t do it because then college anglers might do it. Should we ban wrestling so kids don’t fight in high school? Should we ban nascar so high schoolers don’t race? Should we ban monster trucks so kids don’t do dumb stuff with their trucks? College kids have developed brains enough to make their own choices. If Keith wants to jump land to get to a honey hole he should be able to. If it’s banned because it’s not safe then we should also implement a speed limit of 10mph anywhere there are submerged trees because that’s not safe either yet you see dudes going 60 through them lol
Wrestling, Nascar, monster trucks all take place in a private arena, track or stadium. Not on a public lake or River.

Everyone talks, but why hasn’t “Anyone” named names? All you hear is I know, he said , my boy told me, nothing will ever happen unless someone has the balls to stand up and call them “ ALL OUT”.
If you watched the event it was very obvious. But I am not a judge or jury that’s the tournament departments job. Let’s hope it gets better in the future.
